Capítulo 135: Escape plans
The sun had barely risen when Lyra began her day, a mixture of determination and apprehension filling her heart. The tension from the dinner still lingered in the air, but she had to focus on her mission. Every step, every move had to be calculated. She couldn't afford any mistakes.
Lyra started her morning in the lab, where she and Dante were working on the Parity Potion. The lab was a haven of scientific wonder, filled with shelves of ancient tomes, vials of exotic ingredients, and intricate alchemical apparatuses. The twin moons of Geneva had long set, but their ethereal energy still seemed to infuse the room.
"Good morning, Lyra," Dante greeted her with a warm smile. "Ready to continue our work?"
Lyra returned his smile, hiding the turmoil inside. "Absolutely. Let's make some progress today."
They worked side by side, meticulously measuring and mixing ingredients for the Parity Potion. As Dante was engrossed in his part of the experiment, Lyra used the opportunity to discreetly collect some of the rare ingredients she needed for her escape potion. Lunar Lilly petals, Cadenthine essence, and other essential components were carefully pocketed when Dante wasn't looking.
Throughout the day, Lyra maintained her facade of dedication to the Parity Potion. She discussed theories with Dante, offered insights, and meticulously recorded their findings. All the while, her mind was racing with thoughts of the escape potion. She had to be careful not to raise any suspicion.
During a break, Lyra excused herself to retrieve more supplies from a storeroom down the hall. Once inside, she quickly gathered additional ingredients for the escape potion, including a rare essence stabilizer and a vial of shadow essence that she hoped would counter Dante's shadow veil.
As she returned to the lab, she ran into Sophia in the corridor. Sophia's eyes narrowed as she looked at Lyra. "Still playing scientist, are we? Don't think I haven't noticed your little side projects."
Lyra's heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to remain calm. "I'm just gathering supplies for our work on the Parity Potion. You know how important it is."
Sophia scoffed but let her pass without further comment. Lyra's pulse quickened as she realized how close she had come to being discovered.
Back in the lab, Lyra resumed her work with Dante, but her mind was focused on the experiments she would conduct later in secret. She couldn't let Sophia or anyone else interfere with her plans.
As night fell and their workday came to an end, Dante turned to Lyra. "You've been incredible today, Lyra. We're getting closer to a breakthrough, I can feel it."
Lyra smiled, genuinely touched by his words. "Thanks, Dante. I believe in what we're doing too."
Once Dante had left for the night, Lyra remained in the lab, pretending to finish up some last-minute tasks. When she was sure she was alone, she retrieved the ingredients for the escape potion and began her secret experiments.
Under the dim light of a single lamp, Lyra worked tirelessly, mixing and testing various combinations. She carefully noted the reactions, adjusting the formula as needed. The process was slow and meticulous, but she couldn't afford any mistakes.
Hours passed as she worked, the weight of her mission heavy on her shoulders. Finally, she produced a small vial of a shimmering, translucent liquid. The escape potion was ready, or at least she hoped it was.
Exhausted but determined, Lyra hid the vial in a safe place and cleaned up her workspace, erasing any evidence of her clandestine activities. She couldn't let anyone discover what she was planning.
As she prepared to leave the lab, Lyra glanced out the window at the darkened grounds of the Nightfall Mansion. She thought of Elias, Clara, and the life she once had. She thought of Dante and the complex feelings she harbored for him. She knew the path ahead was fraught with danger, but she also knew she had to try.
With a deep breath, Lyra turned off the lights and left the lab, her mind set on the escape that would change everything. She would reunite with her friends and find a way to live free from the shadows of the Nightfall Mafia. And with the escape potion in hand, she was one step closer to that dream.
