Jessica, who had been about to take another bite of her pancake, set her fork down, suddenly feeling too aware of Lilian's eyes on her.

Jessica swallowed, feeling her heart race as she glanced at Lilian and saw the woman gazing at her with a confident smile.

Damon, on the other hand, was calm, his expression unreadable as he ate while watching both women.

"So, Jessica," Lilian began, her voice warm but probing. "How long have you been Emily's nanny?"

Jessica felt slightly on edge. "It's only been a couple of weeks."

Lilian's gaze lingered on her, assessing. "Really? And Dame already has such a glowing review? That's interesting. Tell me, do you enjoy it?"

"Oh, yes," Jessica nodded, eager to focus on something positive. "Emily is a joy to be around. She's smart and kind."
