Ignoring Mrs Bancroft's question, Hunter watched her carefully, noting every flicker of emotion that crossed her face. He had anticipated this reaction. Mrs. Bancroft's disdain for Delilah was well-known to him.

"I am interested in Delilah," he answered calmly. "And that's precisely why I've asked to meet with you. I want to settle any issues between you and Delilah. I want to ensure that no rumors or bad blood from the past affect her present."

Mrs. Bancroft's eyes narrowed. "There's nothing to settle," she said stiffly. "Delilah Sterling is nothing but trouble, Mr. Quinn. She's bad news. A gold digger looking to reap where she has not sown. I would advise you to stay as far away from her as possible and do not let her come close to you or your family."
