Chapter 5:

Professor Oak gave a bitter smile, tinged with sadness. "…That was how society was back then. People didn't see any wrong in what they were doing. It wasn't until humans pushed their destruction of nature to its limits and squeezed the living space of Pokémon that the legendary Pokémon—creatures that were once just rumors with few witnesses—finally appeared. They were like walking disasters, calamities that roamed the skies, the land, and the seas. They could reverse time, tear apart space, revive dead Pokémon, and bring humans true nightmares. Human weapons were almost useless against them, and under their lead, the Pokémon who had lost their homes launched an attack against humanity."

"…If there had only been one or two legendary Pokémon, it might have been manageable. Powerful human trainers could have dealt with them, possibly even defeating them. But with all the legendary Pokémon gathering together, no trainer, no matter how strong, could stand a chance. Even worse, many trainers' Pokémon, except for those with deep bonds, turned against them. It became a near-total war between humans and Pokémon. In the end, humanity was forced to retreat, and civilization was on the brink of collapse. It was only then that humans woke up. A group of determined individuals came together to reflect on their actions. They dismantled the heavily polluting factories and tried their best to reduce environmental damage while still allowing for human development, aiming for harmony between humans, nature, and Pokémon."

"It was through the efforts of those people that humans and Pokémon were able to come to an understanding, saving our civilization from extinction. Those people went on to form the first Pokémon League, establishing the initial Gym system and even the structure of the Elite Four. That great retribution from nature against humanity also sparked the development of many technologies. The modern cities we live in today are a result of that period's technological breakthroughs. Even the Pokéball was invented during that time; before that, humans didn't have the technology to create Pokéballs."

Professor Oak continued with a sigh, "Because of this, we researchers believe that the legendary Pokémon, often called 'gods,' are like the natural laws of this world. Humanity had disrupted the planet's natural balance, and in return, the planet retaliated. It's likely that ancient human civilizations faced the same fate. Their technology may have caused immense harm to nature, and with less advanced social systems than ours, they were eventually destroyed."

Professor Oak's voice became passionate as he recounted this real yet brutal piece of history. Clenching his fists, he said fervently, "…I wasn't born in that era, but if I had been, I would have certainly stood alongside those people, fighting for harmony between humans and Pokémon!"

Yulong Jie, however, didn't react to Professor Oak's burst of enthusiasm. Instead, he fell deep into thought. Seventy years ago in this world was equivalent to the period of World War II in his original world. In that world, it had been a war between humans, but here, it was a war between humans and Pokémon. The outcome seemed favorable in both cases—at least humanity wasn't wiped out. And just as in his world, war here had spurred rapid technological advancement.

The historical similarities between the two worlds, despite the different forms they took, led Yulong Jie to believe there must be some connection.

"Haha, that's human history for you. Humans should learn from the past, and hopefully, they won't make such grave mistakes again. As for Pokémon history, well, that stretches back even further. Many Pokémon researchers today are studying that very subject, trying to uncover the full history and origins of Pokémon. If you wanted to know all the answers, you'd probably have to ask the 'Creator God' of legend. But that's a distant matter, Jie-kun. For now, let's focus on what we'll do next."

Seeing Yulong Jie deep in thought, Professor Oak gently patted him on the shoulder, thinking he was overwhelmed by the harshness of history.

"The Creator God, huh..." Yulong Jie muttered quietly to himself. He felt that all his questions, all the things he wanted to know, might indeed be answered by the Creator God. However, meeting Arceus and obtaining the answers he sought wouldn't be easy. He would have to become extremely strong—stronger than anyone—before he had the right to face the origin of everything.

There was always a voice deep within Yulong Jie, urging him to uncover the truth. If he didn't, he knew he would regret it in the future.

But those were concerns for another time. Right now, he didn't even have a starter Pokémon, so he couldn't even be considered a real trainer. In fact, his situation was worse than that of an ordinary person—he was just a research subject. His top priority now was to escape from here in the upcoming plan. If he failed, he could end up becoming one of the most tragic transmigrators in history.
