"Alright, don't blame the girl. It was your Uncle Li who said something that makes me angry first," Old Qian said. He cleared his throat and spoke, "I'm hungry. Qin Zhan, bring us the usual."
Qin Zhan narrowed his eyes as he looked at the girl. Turning around, he started to wash his hand before he picked up the cleaver to slice some meat for the noodles.
Gu Xin Ye watched this scene and shivered as she imagined that Qin Zhan was slicing her body. She was feeling guilty that she had tried to find more information about him through the grandpas.
Old Bei poked on her arms and gestured her to continue her job before Qin Zhan would find an excuse to scold her.
As she began to wipe dry a few bowls that they were going to use later, Gu Xin Ye started to ponder why she had suddenly become a scaredy-cat before Qin Zhan.
She glanced at Qin Zhan and saw him cutting some beef bones with his cleaver. Gu Xin Ye got her answer soon.
It seemed that watching him chase those managers with his cleaver had caused a physical shadow on her.
She suddenly wondered if she should give up her mission to recruit Qin Zhan.
However, as Wang Zhi Wei's face appeared in her mind, Gu Xin Ye decided to harden her heart. It has only been a few days. For the sake of the company that her father had worked so hard for, she cannot give up easily.
Fortunately, the day was not as busy as the weekend.
During the weekdays, the noodle stall was open from morning until afternoon.
The atmosphere was too relaxing and the customers were mostly elders who came to hang around the place.
Working during the weekdays was not as tiring as the weekend.
Gu Xin Ye stayed by Qin Zhan's side to serve the noodles and clean up the place until it was time for them to close the stall. Gu Xin Ye managed to pass the day without seeing an angry Qin Zhan.
It was just that... Gu Xin Ye could not help but feel as if the way Qin Zhan was looking at her was a little different.
Her heart jumped at the possibility that he might know about her identity. However, if he knew about it, Qin Zhan should have confronted her about it, right?
Gu Xin Ye quickly dismissed this thought and pretended that she had not noticed the way Qin Zhan was looking at her. Perhaps everything was just her imagination.
After tidying the place a little bit, Gu Xin Ye returned to the B&B.
She laid on the mattress and looked at the amount of money she received as a helper in Qin Zhan's noodle stall. This amount would not be enough to cover her meal for a day.
After taking a shower, Gu Xin Ye dried her hair and pulled her hair up into a high ponytail.
Then, she turned on her laptop and put on her glasses.
Instantly, the air around her became different.
Gu Xin Ye's workaholic mode was turned on and she began to browse through a few documents that Lin Qiao had sent to her earlier.
After looking at the draft, Gu Xin Ye began to contemplate whether her plan to win the company would work.
Her alarm clock went off. Gu Xin Ye switched it off and tapped her fingers on the keyboard. A few seconds later, the screen changed and her best friend, Lin Qiao appeared on the computer screen.
"Xin Ye?" Lin Qiao adjusted her camera before she leaned back on her chair. She gave her friend a look over and a warm smile gradually formed on her lips. "How are you?"
Gu Xin Ye glanced at the screen before she continued to type something on her documents. "Not bad."
Lin Qiao heard the sound of rapid typing on the keyboard and leaned forward to the screen. "Xin Ye, don't tell me that you have been looking at those documents as soon as you returned from your part-time job?"
As Gu Xin Ye's assistant, Lin Qiao was familiar with her schedule and knew that her friend get off working from her part-time job an hour ago.
"Well, I cannot possibly ignore everything just to chase after Qin Zhan, could I?" Gu Xin Ye shot her a languid smile.
A heavy sigh escaped her. Lin Qiao has been working for Gu Xin Ye as her assistant long enough to know that this woman was a workaholic.
According to Gu Xin Ye, everything she does was for the sake of obtaining her parents' hard work back into her hand. GDB Group was too important for her.
The moment she tied her hair into a high ponytail and wore her glasses, everything around her would change. Gu Xin Ye only wanted to work hard to prove to the boards of directors that she could manage the company without Wang Zhi Wei.
Lin Qiao lowered her gaze as a few thoughts ran through her mind. It was not until Gu Xin Ye called her name did she finally looked up again.
"What are you thinking about?" Gu Xin Ye pushed the glasses on the bridge of her nose. "Something happened in the company?"
"Of course not." Lin Qiao waved her hand. "You know that I would tell you quickly the moment something happened."
Lin Qiao picked up the documents on the table and began to read the report that she had prepared earlier. After discussing the company's matter for a while, Lin Qiao finally put down the documents.
"Xin Ye, is there anything else?"
Gu Xin Ye ran one last check according to her checklist. Once she was sure that everything that should be discussed was discussed, she finally closed her journal.
Glancing at the time, Gu Xin Ye finally noticed that the two have been discussing for a few hours and it should be time for Lin Qiao to clock out.
"No. That's it."
Lin Qiao heaved a sigh.
Her fingers rapped on the table. Gu Xin Ye looked up at the screen again and spoke, "Lin Qiao, did Wang Zhi Wei do anything around the company while I'm not around?"
Lin Qiao halted. "No. Everything was just as usual. Are you worried that he might do something?"
Gu Xin Ye pondered over this matter and shrugged. "Who knows? He has been in power in GDB for a few years. I'm just afraid that he might plan something to stop me from taking back the company."
Her gaze softened. "Xin Ye, don't worry. I will continue to monitor him."
I will try to release two chapters per week next week.
