Capítulo 27: The Rift Left Open
After taking care of the problem with Xie Jian, Lan Xiang bade goodbye and teleported back to the school with Lu Xifa.
The school day passed by as usual.
At the end of the class.
"Xifa, let's go..." Lan Xiang grabbed Lu Xifa's wrist and headed to the garden.
With her arms crossed, Lu Xifa looked exasperated. "What is it this time?"
"I, uh... need to head to the capital."
Lan Xiang gave up on Fanzhu Street. He had been strolling there for a week, maybe two, and for what? He hadn't found anything worthwhile since the old man. The other two marketplaces in the city didn't have anything either.
The only other marketplace he knew of was in the capital, since that's where he lived most of his life. But he couldn't go there willy-nilly... until now.
"The capital? Do you even know what it looks like there?" To the extent of Lu Xifa's knowledge, Lan Xiang lived in the countryside since he was a child.
"Hm, yeah... More or less." Lan Xiang shrugged. He had only been gone for 2 years, it shouldn't have changed that much in a short span of time.
"Well, I don't. I only know of one place there, and it's somewhere I don't want you to be." Lu Xifa shook her head.
"Ah? Then you can just teleport to another place?"
"That's not how it works! I need to have seen the place first before I can travel there. It's the hidden weakness of our technique."
"If it's the hidden weakness, why'd you tell me so easily?"
"Because I trust you." Lu Xifa nodded.
Lan Xiang felt touched. "Ah, don't worry, I won't tell a soul!"
Actually, it's not that I trust you, it's that you don't have anyone worthwhile to tell it to anyway... Lu Xifa continued nodding.
"So..."
"It's a no."
"Tsk. That's a shame." It seemed like Lan Xiang had to give up on his plan to shop in the ultimate shopping district in Yanying City, Wuji Street.
"...Wait a minute, if you need to have seen the place before, why do you know the way to my house?" Lan Xiang only realized just now.
"Actually, while you were in a coma, Weiwei kept dragging us to the front of your house, but she was never let in." Lu Xifa had no qualms telling the truth.

Lan Xiang left the scene.

He glanced back. The rift was still there.
A mischievous grin showed up on Lan Xiang's face.

Lu Xifa reappeared... in a room decorated with various posters, figurines, and the like.

"Hah, home sweet home..."
She unbuttoned her blouse and took it off, as well as her skirt. After that, well, she basically took off everything.

The surprised Lu Xifa widened her eyes as she cautiously looked at the source of the sound.
Lan Xiang was there, posing like Ir*nman if he just landed.
"Wh, wh, what are you doing here?!" Lu Xifa hurriedly covered herself with her hands.
"Ooh, this is a cute room!" Lan Xiang looked around, feeling kind of devilish.
While Lan Xiang was distracted, Lu Xifa frantically grabbed some clothes and ran to the bathroom.
When she came out, she was furious.
She snatched the manga on Lan Xiang's hand and patted the dust off it. "Don't touch this! It's limited edition..."
Lan Xiang continued to snoop around. "Ooh, how about this?"
"Don't, don't!"
"How about..."
"Don't even think about it."
In the end, Lan Xiang ran out of things to touch and sat on the bed as he twiddled with his thumbs.
Lu Xifa, with her arms crossed, stood tall in front of him, an aura of "zip it" emanating from her.
"Say. How did you get here?"
"Well, the rift you just opened didn't close on its own, so my feet unknowingly shuffled their way to it... Oops." Lan Xiang shrugged.
"Haah, and I just said I trusted you." Lu Xifa shook her head.
"Look, I didn't know it was gonna be your room, and that you would be naked when I arrived!"
"Even still! Why did you come through a portal that has a destination you're not sure of?" Lu Xifa blushed just thinking about it.
"Eh, because you wouldn't bring me to the capital, I felt a little mischievous."
"That's because... we also have a house in the capital. The only place I know of in the capital. I don't wanna bring you there."
"What does it look like?"
"It looks like here."
"Eh? Since that's the case, wouldn't it be fine to bring me there now? I already know what your room looks like after all."
"Grr... Okay, fine." Lu Xifa reluctantly agreed.
"Let me change my clothes first. Wait here; don't touch anything."
After a while, Lu Xifa came back. Her home clothes were now gone, and she wore casual attire.
"What did I tell you about not touching anything?!"
"Eh, you change clothes so fast?" Lan Xiang stood up and put the manga back where he grabbed it. "I was getting to the good part too..."

Lu Xifa grabbed Lan Xiang's hand and with her other, sliced through the open space in front of her. A tear opened up, and she dragged him inside.
"No matter how many times I experience it, it's always amazing..." Lan Xiang gawked at his new surroundings.
It was dark and unusual, yet felt familiar at the same time.
Lu Xifa let go of Lan Xiang and switched on the lights.
"Ah? It's the exact same room?" Lan Xiang was confused.
"It's not the 'exact same room', look, this one has different posters and figurines! Not to mention the manga and art books here are rarer..."
"Okay. I've lost interest. Let's go!"
They went outside the house.
"So, do you know your directions here? Do you know where you're going?"
"Of course! I know this place like the back of my hand." Lan Xiang's memories of these streets made him smile. It hadn't been long, yet for some reason, he felt nostalgic.
Lu Xifa followed behind Lan Xiang as he maneuvered through the alleyways like a seasoned veteran.
"I'll go visit my sister first. You wanna come with?"
"Sure, I've nothing better to do anyway." Lu Xifa thought of going back and reading some manga, but it seemed more fun if she were to tag along with Lan Xiang.
"Follow me then!"
In the whole Lan family, Lan Xiang was close only to three people: his younger sister, Lan Hailu, his older cousin, Lan Caiwei, and the fat butler guy, Ren Zhao.
Lan Caiwei was studying overseas right now. Unless Lu Xifa knew the city in the country that she was in, he wouldn't be able to visit her for the time being. As for Ren Zhao, he resided in the Lan mansion, from which he was barred entry for 5 years when he was 16. He still had 3 more years before he could meet him again.
Lan Hailu, meanwhile, lived outside their mansion, in the dormitory of Jade Academy. He could visit her any time he wanted, given that he had a way to go to the capital.
"Hm? What's your business here?"
As Jade Academy was an all-girls school, they would naturally not allow a man in haphazardly. The guard lady wiped the drool off her cheek as she questioned Lan Xiang.
"I'm visiting my sister."
"Name."
"I'm Lan Xiang." Lan Xiang said with a smile.
"I'm not asking for your name, I'm asking for your sister's name."
"My sister's name is Lan Hailu. You know, probably the youngest in this university." Lan Xiang felt quite proud when he thought about her.
"Lan Hailu? And you say you're her brother, Lan Xiang? ID." The guard lady started typing on her computer, probably searching in the school database.
Lan Xiang froze for a moment. He fumbled around in his pockets, yet he couldn't find an ID.
"Idiot, use our school ID, you're still wearing it." Lu Xifa couldn't handle it anymore.
"Ah, that's right..." Lan Xiang handed his school ID.
"Hm. I'm sorry to say but Lan Hailu is not here. She's in the hospital." The guard lady felt obligated to disclose the information. She gave the ID back.
"Ha? What?" Lan Xiang's heart beat faster. "What, what happened?"
"Hey? How come you don't know about the situation? You're her sibling, right?"
"Er, I just came to Yanying City from the countryside. My family doesn't really inform me of stuff like this."
"Well, you should check on her yourself. She's at Yiyuan Hospital." The guard lady resumed her nap.
Lan Xiang and Lu Xifa looked at each other, before coming to a tacit understanding.
He called over a taxi.
