Over his 16 years, Jack had never encountered a delinquent boy with this aggressive behaviour toward himself. His soft and meek demeanour, thin physique, and beautiful face would stir people's instincts to favour and side with him. He was one of those children with a sweet and smooth tongue that adults liked most. He was never once bullied by other children.
So he was shocked when that boy looked at him and exploded like a volcano.
Even the brat, Desmond Haily, didn't react like this to him at first glance. Last night, one of his acquaintances sent him a message telling him that Edwin's brother had recovered after a year. He waited for Edwin's answer for two days, but he never received a reply to his invitation. He lost all hope of seeing Edwin again.
However, this news meant he still had a chance to pull through. This morning, He excitedly arrived at the hospital to show himself to Edwin and his relative. But instead, he ran into this boy. ' lately, why has my luck gotten this way? '
Jack sighed while looking at the young man with black-blue hair who had ripped off his collar. He wondered whether to fight him or let him injure him. 'What's the best course of action in front of Edwin? The portrayal of a weak or brave boy? I think the latter would be more beneficial. I don't want to go up against Noah in that white lotus department.'
Jack raised his knee and landed a sudden blow to the boy's crotch.
At the same time, Ryu went blind by the hatred of his past life against Jack. The slight glimpse of him made Ryu recall his continued failure to court Kaveh because of him.
Whenever he had a conversation with Kaveh in a research institute, Kaveh praised Jack over and over again. Whether the topic was about ordinary events or extraordinary accomplishments didn't matter. Kaveh was smitten with Jack. Even if he lived longer than most, he still felt inferior to Jack. He came across the news that before Kaveh arrived at the institute, Jack had pursued him like a crazy man and even kidnapped him once, but his importance in Kaveh's eyes did not diminish. How was it possible?
Ryu could put up with Kaveh's worship for his older brother, but Jack was like a thorn in his heart.
He was immersed in his past life's memories that failed to anticipate Jack's counterattack.
His mind went blank from the intense pain, and he knelt on the floor.
He overheard a chuckle. He turned his head stiffly to the sound. Edwin's head was exposed through Kaveh's doorway.
His hand was over his mouth, desperately repressing his laughter. Ryu's face turned red in the blink of an eye. He was beaten up like this before him. ' How shameful. It would be great if the ground opened up and swallowed me now.'
Dena left her hideout with a smile on her face. " Hey, Jack. What are you doing here?"
Dena made an effort not to look at Ryu sitting on the floor. She knew that if she did, she would involuntarily make fun of him and chastise him. Her wolf advised her multiple times not to provoke Ryu anymore.
" I heard the good news," Jack replied with a grin. He was patting his shoulder in his mind for his quick-witted action.
Dena led him into the room. Before closing the door, she glanced at Ryu and mouthed, "Served you right."
Ryu was seething and wanted to go after Edwin. However, the pain made his lower half numb.
Noah was on the phone through all the commotion. So when he lifted his head, unexpectedly, he saw Jack with a smug face. "Oh, look who showed up. To whom do we owe the honour?"
Noah said with a raised brow.
Dena recalled Noah had beef with Jack. 'Why does everybody around me have a problem with one another?'
To smooth things over, Dena jumped into their conversation before Jack could respond.
" Noah, could you check on Kaveh to see if he is up or not?"
Then she turned to Jack, "Can we have a little chat over there?" she pointed out a corner of the room with two chairs and a tea set.
Jack nodded and went along. On the other hand, Noah looked at Edwin's back unhappily and went to the bedroom.
" Jack. We are just acquainted, and I am bold in requesting this, but I was hoping you could help us. You see, the boy outside is harassing my brother, his family has influence and power, and he could find us easily if we change hospitals. I heard your family had a private hospital in your mining territory. Could you get Kaveh over there to hide him?" Dena was very polite. Her asking for a favour was not on a whim.
In the original story that she read, Jack hindered many pursuits from powerful enemies with his intelligence and unknown resources. Well, the book had not any reference to Ryu. She wasn't confident about her decision. Nevertheless, her wolf told her that Ryu appeared after Jack's death in his memories.
Therefore, It was reasonable to suppose that Ryu would be unfamiliar with Jack's method. She was concerned about Ryu's reaction to Jack in the hallway. If he was reborn and knew Jack, their option would be minimal.
' Can you guess why Ryu knows Jack?' Dena asked her wolf.
' no clue. I know it sounds bad, but most of the time, we were occupied by that witch or those disgusting hunters. We would end up dead before we could do anything about Kaveh's situation. Well, you saw our memories.'
'Yes, but there were too many, so I got the timing mixed up.'
'What are you so frightened about? Even if we fail, we could be revived. You went through it, didn't you? '
Dena went silent. Her uncertainty and lack of ability to make choices were deeply embedded within her.
'Ah, I get it. You were traumatised by the life choices you made. How disastrous were they? You were a good girl who listened to her parent's suggestions all through her life but never enjoyed it. By the time you grew a spine and made a choice, you were crushed by its' horrible ending. You lost all confidence in yourself. You wanted to fight over this, but the fear of being judged by others around you kept you from it. Didn't it? You were so cowardly. When are you going to confront your problems? How can you blame others for your failure? Within your heart, you know that the person who abandoned everyone first was you. Not them. Naturally, you gave up on yourself too.'
' How?'
Dena gulped, scared.
'I also look at your memories.'
