Waking up early in the morning, with no sunrise in sight, Jack made his way toward his shower. Tired, and hungry, Jack hurried his early morning routine. Taking a short hot shower, just to help himself wake up. Leaving the apartment, Jack made his to the first floor, or to be more exact the cafeteria on the first floor.
Crowded as always, Jack ignored the usual stares. Biscuits, some cured meat, and some eggs.
Taking a seat, in the corner of the room, Jack slowly finished his saddening breakfast.
Once done, Jack made his way to the entrance of the Core.
"Reason for going out?", A guard asked.
Entering and leaving the Core was a hassle for all members of the Demon Force. They used the excuse of demons being a threat, however, Jack and everyone else knew the true reason behind all this.
"My unit lost eighteen men"
The guard seemingly remembering something, let Jack through after apologizing.
Darkness, poverty, and hunger.
But the worst of all things was excitement.
"Mom, look it's a Demon Hunter"
"Isn't that nice, sweety"
Children smiled at the sight of their heroes, however, such heroes decided to turn their faces away from such smiles.
'I don't deserve your hope.'
Jack ignored everyone on the streets, and just continued walking until he arrived in front of a run-down mansion. Entering inside, all he could see inside was a dusty place. No furniture was even in place, it looked like a deserted building no less.
However, Jack knew that wasn't the case.
Making his way onto the second floor, he walked through the isolated aisle. Finally making his way to the second to last room in the hallway.
Opening the almost broken-down door, Jack made his way inside. Unlike the outside, however, the room was cleaner than expect but nevertheless dirty.
A table, two chairs, and a wall filled with papers with many names written on them. Turning on the lights, Jack sat down on the chair and slowly closed his eyes.
*
*Step
After a while, Jack was able to hear the steps of someone slowly approaching the room.
*Step
Stretching his tired body before they arrived, Jack waited patiently for the person to arrive. Opening the door was a woman. Wearing a playful expression, smiling happily at the sight of Jack, she shyly waved her hand, and hurriedly sat on the chair next to Jack.
Brown short messy hair, yellow-almost greenish eyes, a young-looking face similar to someone in high school, and most of all her uniform. She wore a short grey skirt, no tights, a white long-sleeve shirt, a large red ribbon, a black suit that she wouldn't wear correctly, and a school bag.
"Don't act in front of me"
"I need to be in character for most of the day so give me some slack."
Ignoring her playful behavior, Jack remained serious about the situation.
"So, I'm probably being sent to my death soon"
"I know, I was the one that suggested it"
"Good job"
Unlike her previous act, the girl stared at Jack with a serious and distinctive expression. No cheerfulness could be seen any longer. Sadness and wary remained.
"..."
"What?
"Is this really the correct thing to do? You could die, and what if we fail?"
Jack listened to the worried questions of the woman, but all he could do was smile. He didn't deserve this, was all he could think of, as he stared at the young woman. Standing up, and moving closer to her, Jack rested his head on her chest. Slowly listening to the rising heartbeat of the woman. Hugging her like a child.
"The king is not doing anything about the situation with the demon hunters and the nobles are all just playing around, it is time for some change."
"I know, but those it really need to be you?"
"Mia, you as the commander of division four, should know how much the people are suffering. Fear, hunger, and death loom in the people of the sacred land. Change needs to be brought."
*Sniff
"But...But I don't want to lose you, Jack."
Holding onto Mia, and wiping away her tears, Jack smiled as he saw her adorable face.
'It feels nice, having someone cry for you.'
After a while longer of sobbing, Jack left, leaving Mia behind in the dark run downed mansion. Before doing so, however, he stopped in front of a room on the second floor.
Entering the room, one was able to see a room filled with photos of many men wearing the same clothes as Jack. Bowing twice, Jack left without saying another word.
Checking his pocket watch while walking back to the Core.
Jack hurried his steps, after seeing the time. Bumping into an unusual man wearing nothing but a fancy clean shirt and a dirty pair of pants.
He wore the attire of a poor man, but the clothes of a rich man.
Apologizing for the mistake, Jack continued making his way forward, clutching onto the paper given by the previous man.

After the usual procedure, Jack was now on an elevator inside the main building of the Core.
The main building was the most secure location of the Core. Most decisions were made inside this building. It didn't matter what it was, it was most likely decided in this place.
After all, this was the main residence of the king. Thus being named the Palace.
Being guided by a guard, it wasn't long until they arrived at the top floor of the building.
Entering inside, Jack was greeted by nine men who were all sitting down, wearing some sinister smiles. And at the center of them, was an old man, wearing a small golden crown.
'Feeling like a king, you bastard?'
Next to him on the other hand were the nobles, however, for them that was nothing more than a simple title. They had no territory but even then they still ran the city.
"Let's hurry up, should we? I don't wish to remain here any longer", The old king said.
"Then we should"
"Second Division's unit three, squad leader, Jack Walker"
"Yes"
"Over the past few years, the council of the sacred lands has been uninformed of the outside situation so we have..."
A boring explanation with nothing worth being mentioned.
"Thus we have decided to create a new division whose main focus would be the exploration of the outside world, and after consulting this with the division commanders, it was decided that you would be the one to lead this new division"
"I see"
"So, together with the demonic humans, you will be allowed two months of preparation before leaving the Sacred Land."
'2 months?'
'They want to kill me fast, these old bastards.'
"Can I request for Zain to be the new squad leader of unit three?"
"No, he will also be part of the scouting division as your aid"
'F*cking hell man.'

Back at the demonic human room, Jack explained what had just happened, to be more exact, everything that had happened during the meeting.
"Oh, so I'm not a part of the new division?", Sarah asked.
"No, however, all information regarding those four, should be given to me"
"Well...", Sarah turned her head away to avoid looking at Jack in complete embarrassment.
Annoyed at her already, Jack couldn't help but raise his voice.
"What?"
"We didn't have time to do any research on their abilities"
Not saying anything else, Jack just sighed and turned to look at all of the children like an instructor ready for war. Looking at the poor children bleeding on the ground all Sarah could do was give them a slight bow.
Jack also started to get tired from looking at them.
Turning his eyes towards the baffled guards, Jack requested they bring some blood. Leaving immediately, the guards headed towards the second floor of the basement of the division three building.
"Demonic humans sure are resistant, as long as you don't cut off their head, they can regenerate after drinking some blood", Sarah said.
However, instead of worrying about them, she took out her clipboard and started to study their injuries.
Jack also took out his notebook as there were many things he needed to know.
"Ana?"
Calling out to the still petrified young girl, Jack didn't receive a response.
It was only after screaming her name after multiple attempts to get her attention that Anastasia finally responded.
"Y-yes, sir"
"Your ability, revolves around creating a string for each of your fingers correct, how many can you produce?"
"Ah, N-No, I-I have o-one string for each finger...They don't reproduce, I c-cant create more of them"
Scared at what was to come if she was considered to be useless, Anastasia couldn't help but tremble in fear. And her fear only got stronger as Jack stood up and slowly approached her. Standing in front of her like a titan, Ana's trembling only got worst.
Or that was until Jack softly patted her head with his hand.
However, without saying anything other than that, Jack started to inspect the string spears still attached to the walls. Testing their sharpness and durability.
"From now on, you will only use six strings, four of them will be used for something else"
"Eh? For what?"
"Weapons"
