Capítulo 41: June Was A Great Help To Chris

The change in June's facial expression was nothing short of terrifying.

Chris had to swallow hard while fighting his impulse to flee from the danger.

June pushed her husband away and shot him daggers.

"What is it that you like about that wench, Janine Mayer?"

Like?

Chris blinked several times.

Did he even use the word, "like"?

"But Darling, I never said that I liked her. I thought that she was on our side."

After all, Janine helped to steal Amalia's recipes in the past and handed them over to Chris and June. At the very least, she was an ally, no?

June scoffed in response.

"She was useful one time and you took a liking to her right away? How infuriating!"

Chris laughed. He circled toward his wife's back and then proceeded to massage her tired shoulders.

"Baby, you are so tense. I know, you must be tired from carrying our baby everywhere. Look, why don't you..."

"Why don't I, what???" June's pitch grew increasingly higher. She turned around and wagged her point finger in front of Chris.

"Don't you dare to switch the topic, Chris Henderson! Answer me honestly, has she been seducing you? Have you been cheating on me?"

Chris closed his eyes for a few seconds while he took a deep breath.

"No, Darling," he said while taking his wife's hands in his. "June, how could you accuse me of cheating? Baby, I love you. Janine is just... Just an employee."

"Then why did you kick out old man Collins because he let the others bully her???"

"Technically, I didn't kick him out," Chris corrected June. "He resigned. And I only sided with Janine to improve my standing in Grandfather's eyes!"

"... Really?"

"Yes, really!"

Chris grabbed a sheet of paper from his desk and showed it to June.

"Look, I had our Corporate Communication Team interview me about managing a healthy and stress-free workplace! I made sure to send this article over to Grandfather this morning!"

"..."

The interview article was printed in color. It showed Chris Henderson in his best suit and portrayed him as a company leader with an advanced mindset and endless empathy for his employees.

June eyed the article suspiciously. When did her husband start growing brain cells? It was rather disconcerting.

"Not bad, I guess," she dismissed the article in a pompous manner.

"Anyway, I disagree with your idea to appoint Janine Mayer to the position. I want Leah Mitchell."

Chris took the article back from his wife and laid it carefully on his desk. He planned to frame it and then hang it in his office.

"Fine," he gave in to his wife. "If you want Leah Mitchell, why don't we invite her over for a talk? The competition is around the corner. Might as well do that soon."

"I know," June said. "I already texted her the address of our company. We will have lunch together tomorrow."

"... Okay."

Never mind that Chris might have other appointments during that time. He better cleared his agenda for that very important lunch meeting tomorrow.

"By the way," June wrinkled her nose when she looked at Chris' messy desk. "How is it going with the recruitment of your new secretary?"

"Right," Chris almost forgot all about it. "After Mr. Collins left, I had not asked HR about it. Why don't I just saunter over and take a look at what they have."

June rolled hard with her eyes.

Did Chris think that HR kept the candidates inside their file cabinets? Had Mr. Collins even started interviewing the candidates?

"Anyway, go and find out," she said briskly before she left Chris' office. Behind her, Chris plopped down in his seat in exasperation.

How far was June along, again?

He did not think that he could take her snippy and disdainful attitude any longer.

Having arranged an important step in Chris' career promotion, June believed that she had done her job for the day.

As she walked across the foyer, she caught sight of the many beautiful people who sat on benches in front of the interview room, waiting for their turn to be interviewed.

After that one blunder with Irene Gallagher, they all agreed that hiring an ugly person to be Chris' secretary was not necessarily the solution to the problem.

But then what should June do to prevent her husband's eyes from wandering about?

The pregnant woman pressed a hand against her swollen belly.

Darn it, she cursed in her heart. She used to be slim and beautiful. This baby truly ruined her perfect figure.

"Excuse me, Ma'am," a deep, masculine voice was heard.

June looked up and stared at the most beautiful pair of blue eyes in the world. The man was practically a reincarnated Adonis!

"I do not mean to be nosy," the handsome man added with a smile. "I noticed your discomfort. Should I call a taxi to the hospital?"

"..."

Wow.

Even Chris was not that attentive. He didn't even know that June came from a spa!

"Are you applying for a position here?" June asked, ignoring the man's offer to take her to the hospital.

"If you want, you can take the General Manager's Secretary position."
