Capítulo 1: Awakening the Vampire lord

A cold chill ran through Connor's spine as he walked deep into the eerie looking woods, he was very far from the part of the city where people lived and even though it had been twenty years since he last walked this path, he could still remember the route like it was yesterday.

He was getting close to the cave and even without seeing it, he could feel the power coming off his old friend; one of the most powerful beings on the planet earth; a vampire who had walked the earth for so many centuries that he lost count.

Connor knew that it was necessary to do this, the ancient vampire Lord had slept enough. His presence was needed or things would get out of hand. There was no better person to handle the current situation than him.

The green leaves weren't waving today but the wind was howling, the sound of the rustling leaves were beating in his eardrums thanks to his enhanced hearing; one of the advantages of being a vampire.

Connor could perceive something as gentle as the scent of each leaf in the woods, down to something as intense as the rotten jackass of dead preys and that of the ever hungry predators. For a creature that has lived through different civilizations and generations, he was no stranger to these scents and he could identify each one of them.

He walked calmly to avoid getting overwhelmed by all the enhanced senses and the wind of emotions that he was feeling. Garrick had made him swear on his life twenty years ago that he wouldn't walk this path for another two centuries, not like it was logical to swear with his life because technically he was immortal.

Connor had a deer by its horn, pulling it against its wish. Somehow he had paralyzed the animal from crying out but it was still showing some resistance. He walked a few more miles and then he found it; the cave of the haunted souls.

It was an ancient tombstone used to hold the remains of men who had died strange deaths in the early 15's; people who were believed to have died at the hands of demons and witches, a place where their souls were condemned to an endless turmoil for an eternity.

However, the cave was abandoned some time eight hundred years ago and no one in their rightful minds came this deep into the woods. So it made the perfect resting place for a vampire who didn't want to be disturbed in his centuries of slumber.

Connor Deckard dropped the defenseless deer beside a tree, it was still kicking the dust in an attempt to escape but the vampire doubted it had even a little percentage of the energy required to stand, let alone run.

He walked to the entrance of the cave that had now been covered by green ropes from strange plants. Slowly, he pulled the ropes away and cleared the leaves blocking the entrance, and then he rolled off the massive stone that had been used to block the entrance of the cave by him, twenty years ago.

The stone was so heavy that it would take five to eight average humans to roll it away but the vampire just needed his two hands to roll it away. Connor coughed and clapped his hands together to get rid of the dirt he had gotten from the stone.

He looked into the dark cave and sighed. "Garrick is going to kill me," he muttered softly to himself and any other of his kind close would be able to sense the fear in him. Whoever this Garrick was, the thought of him scared the life out of Connor.

Connor walked into the ancient cave. He could see skeletons all over the rock floor. The vampire could still remember tossing those bones there twenty years ago, he needed to clear the area where he had placed Garrick's coffin.

The human skeleton wasn't the only thing there, the dried skin of snakes and other reptiles that had died there years ago. They must have found their way in but unfortunately couldn't get out and so they starved to death.

Connor saw the casket placed on a square-shaped stone pavement. It was made out of pure gold and was unable to rot even in five hundred years. Well, Garrick Verne had more than enough money to purchase a comfy sleeping place for himself. Not like you can be alive for over a thousand years and still be broke!! You should probably just end your life, then.

Connor wiped the dust off the casket top and then he opened it. Inside there lay a thin man dressed in ancient French attire. Well, his lifetime in France used to be one of his favorite times on earth, but then to avoid suspicions, he had to relocate to England before the First World War.

Connor hesitated as he stared at the pale looking man that he has known for many centuries, he knew how badly Garrick handled his temper. He had almost closed the coffin back when he suddenly summoned courage to do what was necessary.

He pulled up his left sleeves, put the arm into his mouth and bit open his skin. After that he stretched his hand above the unconscious man and let his blood drop down to his face,

That was how to awaken a vampire in slumber; the scent of fresh blood, him also being a vampire made it more efficient as vampires had different blood which was thicker than the average human blood.

Connor Deckard let the blood drop long enough for the wound to close up, and then he withdrew his hand and waited for the results. A minute passed and Connor was starting to get worried; this usually didn't take this long, he was about to drop more blood when Garrick's eyes shot open.

"Hello old friend," the vampire said solemnly while lying in the coffin and then his mouth curved into a smile.

"Welcome back, Garrick Verne." Connor said with fumbling lips.

"You reek of fear, don't tell me it isn't two centuries yet," Garrick said and sat up like a robot.

He looked at Connor and the younger vampire wore an appealing expression on his face. He didn't need him to speak to understand what he had done.

"How many years have I gone, Connor? What year is this?" he asked coldly and that voice sent shivers down Connor's spine.

He swallowed hard and then rubbed his temple. "2010… it has been twenty years," he replied.

Before he could even complete the words, Garrick dashed out of the coffin and pinned him to the left wall of the cave, with his hand gripping tight to Connor's neck.

"You never listen, do you? I told you what will happen if you wake me up earlier than two hundred years, and yet you went ahead to do it just two decades later. I might be weak and exhausted from hunger and malnutrition but I can still snap your neck and leave you unconscious for the next one month," he threatened.

Connor, who already had his legs kicking in the air, grabbed on to Garrick's right hand, trying to loosen the grip on his neck. "Easy there old pal, gentle on the neck, I just had this suit ordered." He said amidst choking.

"Who cares about your suit? Why did you wake me up so early? What was so important that you had to defile me, Connor?" he queried in a deep voice that made the caves echo loud enough to awaken the ancient spirits that dwelled here.

"I… I… ugh!!!" Connor groaned and began to tap him on the hand, to signify that he was choking the breath out of him. If he held on a little longer, then he would just end up knocking him unconscious like he had threatened.

"I can't hear you," Garrick muttered. Of course, how would he hear him when he was choking the life out of him?

"Chi… child," Connor groaned out while fighting for his life.

"What do you mean?" Garrick asked with curious eyes as he had not understood what he said. He then let go of Connor and the poor man dropped to the floor, coughing vehemently.

"Shit, you should get a hold of your temper," Connor advised as he stood up, still rubbing his sore throat.

"Start speaking or we will get back to choking you," Garrick said and turned his back to him.

Connor sighed and straightened his neck; he was still feeling the effects of the grappling from the ancient vampire lord.

"I am sorry I had to wake you up but I had no choice, it was the only option. Your child needs you," he announced.

"What?" Garrick muttered and turned to face him with a confused and puzzled expression on his face. What his friend had said made no sense to him because he had no child, not in the past 2000 years. So what child does Connor speak of?
