"Well then I quit, I'm getting a new job" She yelled, shutting the door to her bedroom in his face.
" Avery, open this door, and tell me you don't mean what you just said" Jamal yelled knocking the door furiously. Avery turned on the stereo in her room increasing the volume every time Jamal told her to open the door.
Tired of his incessant knocking, Avery opened the door, she was all dressed up and tying her coat, pushing him aside.
"And where do you think you are going?" Jamal stopped her.
" Anywhere, as long as it's away from you and your possessive self" she retorted, removing her arm from from his hand.
"Belle come on" Avery said to Belle. She had texted Belle when she was inside her room about leaving this place and going to any place of her choice.
"Avery you can't just leave, we are still in the middle of a conversation" Jamal yelled
"Hey mister, listen and listen good, this is MY house and you don't have any right to correct me on any of my actions, the only reason you're still here, that you're still in my life is because of the bun you put in my oven" she said poking him harshly with every word.
"And this is my place, I'm not asking for anything else but for you to live your life while I live mine, we are strangers bound together by babies, I want you to let that sink in and never forget that. And I don't want your mother coming here and thinking we're anything else, since this is MY house,I get to decide who stays and who leaves, and we weren't in the middle of anything, you were talking to yourself, you can leave my house now" she said giving him a deadly glare and holding the door for him to leave.
Jamal, not wanting the situation to get worse than it already was and pained at the fact that his mom had talked to Avery the way she did, he decided to leave.
"I'm sorry for what my mom said to you, I feel really bad about it, we might have just met a few months ago but you're not a stranger to me and I want you to know that even though you feel this way, I will make sure nothing happens to you or our babies" he assured talking in a pained voice and leaving the house without saying another word.
Avery demeanor changed after what she heard, she didn't mean to yell at him, she was having one if her mood swings again, being pregnant is hard.
" Avery? I didn't want to say anything because you're my best friend and I'm always going to be on your side no matter what, but I've gotta tell you this - Jamal is trying his best, he clearly just wants the best for you and your babies.
Not all guys can or would want to take responsibility for a baby not to talk of two babies, he takes you to your doctor's appointments, checks up on you to see if you're okay, he gets groceries for you, always answers when you call and if only you can see the way he looks at you when you're not watching" Belle told Avery.
"How does he look at me?" Avery asked
"Like you're a star he wants to steal from the sky and keep for himself" Belle chuckled
"I don't think I can trust men, my father started my hatred for men and the one man I finally let in, got my heart broken, I don't think I have any piece of my heart left to break, and it's harder to part away from my baby who turned out to be babies, but the only reason I want to part with them is because I don't know what kind of mother I'd be, I don't think I can be a good mother, I mean look at my mom, she loved me so much but had to turn a blind eye when my father started abusing me cos she didn't want to make the situation worse, I don't want to be like my mom" she cried, a tear falling freely from her eyes.
"If you keep thinking about that, you'd never have space to love and be happy, break free of the chains life has put you in" Belle advised , rubbing off another tear which had fallen off Avery's face with her finger.
"Your mom loved you in her own way, do you think you'd forgive yourself if you gave your babies away and cut ties with them? How do you think they'd feel growing up without their mother by their side or when they grow older and they find out you gave them away and never looked back, I'd advise you to take it easy and give Jamal a chance, I'm not saying you should date him or anything but just be civil to each other if not for anything, then for your unborn babies" Belle pointed out, giving her friend a big hug.
"Thanks Belle, I don't know what I'd have done if you weren't here and even then, and when I first met you till now, you've been a pillar for me" Avery whimpered trying to keep her tears at bay.
"Exactly, what would you have done, it's be nice if you stop touching my mangoes to show me your appreciation" Belle joked, causing Avery to laugh.
"Well it was your mangoes that got me in this mess in the first place" Avery retorted, still laughing.
"You laughed finally, I was thinking I'd have to spray the house with some Happy spray or something" Belle added.
