Capítulo 21: Chapter 21: Calculated Interference

The sky above New York was a canvas of smoke and destruction, painted in hues of orange and black as the sun sank behind the city. The battle between the Hulk and the monstrous creature raged on, like two forces of nature, unstoppable and devastating. Buildings crumbled as fists collided, and every blow felt like an earthquake shaking the very foundation of the city.

But in the shadow of this chaos, Alex remained calm, calculating his next move.

He wasn't a hero. Not in the way the world knew them. He didn't wear a costume or proclaim his values on the rooftops, just heavy clothes and a mask covering his face with a bit of illusion magic which he has been using to make his face unrecognizable to people on his heroic duties. If there was one thing he had learned since arriving in this universe, it was that survival meant staying invisible.

Still, something in him stirred as he watched the destruction unfold. The Hulk was powerful, but without control, and his opponent was relentless. This wasn't just a simple brawl—it was the kind of fight that left scars on the world, and Alex knew if he didn't step in, the casualties would mount.

His eyes flickered over his system panel, glowing faintly in his peripheral vision.

He had enough to spin the silver wheel again, maybe get another power, but he hesitated. He had already used three slots—Spider-Man, Black Panther, Zatanna, and another ability. Each ability had been chosen for its utility, and so far, they had served him well. He still had three slots left, and he needed to be careful. This was the kind of situation that required precision.

He could feel the tug of Zatanna's powers in his mind, the psychic connection lingering with the people around him. Their fear, their panic—it was almost overwhelming, but he couldn't let it distract him. He had a job to do, and that was to survive. And if helping people earned him more points, then so be it.

For now, he had to stay hidden.

Alex took a deep breath, watching the Hulk and the creature exchange another devastating blow. They were evenly matched—two forces of brute strength, neither willing to back down. But something was off. The creature wasn't just fighting mindlessly. Its movements were erratic, as if something had shaken its focus.

That something was Alex.

He could feel the creature's mind thrumming with rage and confusion. Zatanna's psychic powers had allowed him to slip into the beast's subconscious, just enough to throw it off balance. It was like nudging a boulder in a certain direction. Small adjustments here and there, nothing too dramatic. Just enough to give the Hulk an edge.

And it worked. The creature hesitated for a split second, its muscles twitching involuntarily as Alex applied another psychic nudge. That was all the Hulk needed. With a thunderous roar, the green giant grabbed the creature by its throat, lifting it off the ground and slamming it into the pavement with enough force to crack the street.

The ground trembled, sending shockwaves through the city block. Alex could feel the energy rippling through his feet, a testament to the sheer power of the Hulk. But he couldn't afford to be awed by it. Not now.

His focus shifted back to the people trapped in the surrounding buildings. There were still dozens of them, frozen in fear or too injured to escape. He needed to get them out.

Drawing on Zatanna's powers again, he extended his mind, reaching out to the frightened civilians. One by one, he touched their minds, sending a wave of calm through their bodies, guiding them toward safety. It was like herding sheep, but mentally. Some resisted, too scared to think clearly, but with a little more effort, Alex managed to push them in the right direction.

Points: 470/1,000.

It wasn't much, but it was something. He was getting closer to his goal.

He checked the fight again. The Hulk had the upper hand now, pounding the creature relentlessly. Blood—if that's what it was—splattered the ground with each blow. But Alex could tell the Hulk's rage was consuming him. This wasn't just about defeating the creature anymore. It was about destruction.

And if the Hulk didn't stop, there would be nothing left of the city.

Alex clenched his fists. He had no choice. He had to intervene more directly, but he needed to be smart about it. He still had one slot left to fill, and it was time to use it.

The silver wheel appeared in front of him, spinning in a blur of colors and names. He focused, pushing aside the doubt and uncertainty that lingered at the edges of his mind. This was what he had prepared for. He wasn't about to waste this opportunity.

The wheel slowed, ticking softly as it passed through familiar names—Iron Man, Black Widow, Wolverine—until it finally stopped.

Moon Knight: Enhanced strength, agility, endurance, and pain resistance.

A smile tugged at the corner of Alex's lips. Moon Knight. Not as flashy as some of the other options, but perfect for what he needed. Strength, agility, and endurance—these were qualities that would complement his existing abilities perfectly. And most importantly, Moon Knight's pain resistance would allow him to take a hit and keep moving. In a fight like this, that was invaluable.

The power flowed into him, merging with the others. His muscles tensed, his senses sharpened, and he felt a surge of energy coursing through his veins. Giving him some free clothes as well.

---

The fight had moved closer to the city center, and Alex followed cautiously, staying just out of sight. He could feel the weight of his new powers settling in, grounding him as he prepared to intervene. Moon Knight's resilience made him feel invincible, but he knew better than to let that feeling cloud his judgment.

The Hulk had the creature pinned now, roaring in triumph as he prepared to deliver the final blow. But Alex could see it—the destruction that would follow, the innocent lives that would be caught in the aftermath.

He had to act.

Using Spider-Man's agility, Alex leaped from the rooftop, landing silently on the edge of the battleground. He didn't need to get too close—just close enough. Summoning Zatanna's powers again, he focused on the Hulk's mind, sending a wave of calm through the green giant's subconscious.

It wasn't easy. The Hulk's mind was a chaotic storm of rage and primal instincts, but Alex persisted. Slowly, he pushed through the fury, planting seeds of tranquility, urging the Hulk to stop.

And then, it happened.

The Hulk's massive fists hesitated, his roars fading into heavy breaths. The creature beneath him struggled weakly, no longer a threat, and for a moment, the city fell silent.

Alex took a deep breath, stepping back into the shadows. No one had seen him. No one knew he was there.

Points: 520/1,000.

He was getting closer.

But as he turned to leave, something caught his attention—a presence, watching him from the distance. Alex froze, his heart pounding in his chest.

He wasn't alone.
