Capítulo 14: Chapter 14: Testing the Limits

Alex sat on the edge of a water tower, his legs dangling over the side as the city sprawled out below him. The rush of saving that woman still echoed in his chest. For the first time since his arrival in this world, he felt like he had truly done something, like he was in control of his destiny, not just reacting to it.

But that feeling was already fading. Five points. That's all he had earned for stepping into danger, for risking everything. He needed 1,000 points to even unlock the Platinum Wheel, which meant he had a long way to go before he could even think about being on par with some of the real heavy hitters in this universe. People like Thor, Hulk,Doctor Strange, or Superman—they were the real threats. Right now, Alex was just scraping by with city-level powers although some powerful but not too threatening to the heavy hitters of this world.

He glanced at the Silver Wheel in his mind's eye. It was there, waiting to be spun again, a silent promise of more abilities. He could use it, fill up those remaining five slots with powers that would make him more formidable, but that wasn't the real problem. The real problem was how to accumulate points faster, without tipping off the people who watched over this universe like hawks. He wasn't ready for their scrutiny.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sudden, sharp tingle of his Spider-Sense, like a cold shiver running down his spine. He was up on his feet in an instant, scanning the streets below, trying to figure out what had set it off.

That's when he saw it.

A group of men, all dressed in dark tactical gear, were moving swiftly and silently along the rooftops, just a few blocks away. They weren't ordinary thugs; these guys were organized. And they were headed toward something—or someone—with purpose. His mind screamed points.

Alex's heart pounded in his chest as he crouched low, following their path from above. He kept his distance, using the shadows to his advantage as he leaped silently from building to building. The city blurred around him as he swung closer, the tension in his muscles coiling tight like a spring.

Suddenly, the group stopped at a rooftop overlooking a high-rise apartment. They weren't there for some random crime. They were planning something bigger, more coordinated. He could see them setting up equipment—binoculars, weapons, even some high-tech gear that looked military-grade. His mind raced. What were they after? Who were they watching?

He didn't have long to wait for answers. One of the men spoke into an earpiece, his voice low but firm.

"He's on the move. Target will be in position in five minutes. Everyone be ready."

Alex's breath caught. Target? Who were these guys hunting? He had a bad feeling, a really bad feeling. He needed more information. Crouching low, he fired a web line across to a nearby antenna and swung closer, keeping his movements controlled and quiet. He landed behind an old ventilation unit, his body tense as he listened in.

"We'll hit him hard, then extract. No time for delays. We've got a five-minute window before Stark's systems kick back online," one of the men said, pulling out a tablet that displayed a 3D holographic blueprint of a building.

Stark? As in Tony Stark?

Alex felt his stomach flip. If these guys were targeting Stark, they were playing with fire. Whatever their plan was, it involved Tony's high-tech security systems, and they clearly had timed this operation down to the second. Whoever they were, they had some serious backing.

He needed to make a choice—now. If these guys were after Tony Stark, that meant they were after Iron Man. And if they succeeded in whatever they were planning, things could go south very fast. But stepping in meant exposing himself, possibly to more than just this group. Tony Stark wasn't a fool. He'd know someone else was involved the second Alex interfered, and that could put Alex on his radar—something he had been avoiding since day one.

His Spider-Sense flared again, stronger this time, almost urging him to act. There wasn't time for hesitation. He had to trust his instincts.

Without another thought, Alex swung down from his perch, landing silently behind the group. He needed to take them out before they could carry out their plan, and he needed to do it fast.

The first guy didn't even see him coming. A quick tap on the shoulder, and as the man turned, Alex delivered a swift uppercut, sending him crashing into a pile of crates. The others whipped around, startled, but Alex was already in motion. He shot two webs in rapid succession, yanking the guns from their hands before they could react.

The leader of the group cursed under his breath, reaching for a knife. He lunged at Alex, but Alex was faster. He dodged easily, grabbing the man's wrist and flipping him over with Spider-Man's signature agility. The guy hit the ground hard, groaning in pain as Alex stood over him, his muscles tensed and ready for the next move.

The remaining two men hesitated, clearly unsure of how to handle someone who was faster and stronger than them. But hesitation was all Alex needed. He webbed one of them to the ground, then spun around to knock the other out with a well-placed punch.

It was over almost as quickly as it had started. The group lay scattered across the rooftop, groaning and barely conscious. Alex breathed heavily, adrenaline still surging through his veins.

He crouched down next to the leader, grabbing the man by the collar. "Who sent you?" Alex demanded, his voice low and dangerous. "Why are you targeting Stark?"

The man glared up at him, his eyes full of defiance. "You're making a mistake," he growled, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. "You have no idea what you're getting involved in."

Alex's grip tightened. "Try me."

But before the man could say anything, the sound of helicopters in the distance caught Alex's attention. His Spider-Sense flared again—strong, urgent. Something else was coming. Something bigger.

He turned just in time to see three more figures descending from a nearby rooftop—this time, heavily armed and clearly more prepared than the group he had just taken down. And they weren't alone. A sleek, black drone hovered above them, its cameras trained on Alex.

His mind raced. He couldn't take on this new group without making a scene, and he sure as hell couldn't handle the drone without raising suspicion. If he wasn't careful, this entire situation could spiral out of control.

One of the new figures raised a weapon—a sleek, futuristic-looking rifle—and took aim.

Time to go.

Alex leaped into the air just as the rifle fired, a pulse of energy zipping past him and crashing into the rooftop behind him with a loud crack. He swung away as fast as he could, his heart racing. The city blurred beneath him as he flew from one building to the next, the sound of the drone following close behind.

He didn't stop until he was several blocks away, ducking into the shadows of an old construction site. His breath came in heavy gasps as he crouched low, his mind racing.

What the hell was that? Who were these people? And why were they after Tony Stark? He had stumbled into something much bigger than he had anticipated, and now he was in the thick of it.

But there was no time to dwell on it. His system panel blinked to life, and a new notification appeared before him.

Points earned: 25 Total Points: 30

Thirty points. It wasn't much, but it was something.

Alex leaned back against the cold steel of the construction site, his heart still pounding in his chest. He had survived—again. But barely. And the worst part? He had only earned 25 points.

He let out a frustrated sigh, wiping sweat from his brow. The game he was playing was getting more dangerous by the minute, and the stakes were rising faster than he could keep up.

One thing was clear: if he was going to survive in this world, he needed to figure out who was pulling the strings—and fast. Otherwise, he'd end up dead or worse.

But for now, he just needed to breathe. And plan his next move.
