"We are very close now, they'll meet us soon, Roren had sent a letter that we would be coming," said Aria.
"So they'll be sending a large escort ahead for the princess?" asked.
"Don't joke around, I don't need an escort, I can take care of myself, It's you who they'll be sending an escort for," said Aria.
Ash remembered Derek's words and straightened up. He was after all the ambassador of the human kingdom, he needed to look the part. He checked his clothes, and adjusted the sword beside him carefully to look presentable. A few minutes later as they reached a set of gates built between two thick trees, a horn sounded somewhere. The walls were covered with vines, he couldn't see where the forest ended and the city began, it was true that the elves had somehow built around nature.
The gates opened and a group of elves came riding two-legged lizard-like beasts, Ash thought they must be the trolodytes she mentioned, they had sharp teeth and they had different colored skins, some were brown and green, and some were pink. They did look weak and much less bigger than horses, capable of carrying only one person at once. But because of their two legs, they could move much better even in dense forests.
"Ms. Aria, welcome back," the riders reached them and descended. A guy very similar looking to Roren moved ahead of the group and spoke.
"Thank You, Silv, have you prepared our travel to the capital?" asked Aria.
"Yes, everything's ready, you can leave at your convenience if you want to rest first, the captain also has appointed a set of guards for the human, if you wish you can leave him with them, they can take him ahead," said Silv.
"No, it's fine, I need to go to the capital anyway," said Aria.
"Very well, Farin," Silv turned and called. Four elves, two male and two female moved forward.
One of the elves who answered the call looked much older and more experienced than the rest of them. Even though his physique was still the same as others his white hairs were much more thick and his eyes were much more experienced. The other elf was young but taller than everyone and had a much bigger sword than the rest. The two girls seemed like they were sisters. All four elves had something in common, but he couldn't decide, they all seemed very strong and trained. His guard was not just anyone clearly, he had to be careful around these four.
"These are the guards, captain chose, Farin, is the leader, and the rest are Ben, Sarah, and Hailey," said Silv.
"Nice to meet you all, and this is Ash Blake, he is Mr. Derek's apprentice, I am sure you must have heard of him he has visited us plenty of times," said Aria.
"Good seeing you sir," said Farin and the rest nodded.
"Good to see you too," said Ash.
They brought out two more Trolodytes for them.
"Don't move around too much, they don't like new people?" said Aria as Ash got up on one of the Trolodytes. He was too embarrassed to show any fear in front of so many elves, so he quietly jumped on his beast. But the beast remained calm as Ash stroked its neck to everyone's surprise.
"Have you been on one before?" asked Ben.
"No, he has never been here before," said Aria.
"Let's get going then," said Farin and the six of them rode towards the capital. Riding these beasts was indeed much faster than horses, although the ride was much less comfortable. But he was having fun for some reason, so he pushed his ride to go faster and it read his mind and doubled its speed. The rest increased their speed too.
"Are you sure, you haven't ridden one before?" asked Aria coming beside him.
"Yeah, but I like it, the speed is amazing," said Ash.
They weren't going through the city but rather around it, to be faster, the path would be longer but in the city, they couldn't go at full speed. They were an hour into the journey when something jumped and landed on Ash's back. The beast tripped with the sudden weight and crashed into the trees, Ash flew off its back and smashed into a tree. He was in a lot of pain, and when he finally managed to open his eyes he found they were under attack. Their assailants were creatures he had never seen before they were human-sized, black-skinned, and fast. The one who had attacked him was now standing up as well from where they had crashed. Something about the snarl the creature made as it moved towards him told him he was not getting away soon. The others were under attack too and the surprise ambush had them on the backfoot, they were also much less in number, and he wasn't getting any help.
So, bracing his legs and taking the form he had practiced yesterday for an hour. He took out his sword and raised it, for the first time, the feeling of a spark inside him seemed to rise like his blood and the ruby inside the sword glowed. As Blade had instructed instead of letting him attack him completely he moved two steps forward and met the creature with his attack. He had wondered what this thing would use to attack but it ducked under his sword easily and swiped at his stomach with his clawed hands. Ash jumped back and placed a hand on his stomach, it came back bloodied, the pain came later, and the creature's claws were so sharp that it had easily clawed his skin clean.
But it didn't stop to give him a rest, it attacked him again. Ash again tried to kill him with his sword but it simply dodged and kept swiping at him. He was now bleeding all over, and his sword felt too useless to him, too big and heavy, it only slowed him down, the creature anyway had an advantage over him. But if he left his sword he won't have anything else to attack him. Then as the creature dashed him again, a quick plan formed in his head. He raised the sword like an axe and instead of swiping it down he threw it at the creature, it was surprised for a second, his speed added to the sword's speed making it hard for him to dodge but it still managed to barely turn his body around as the sword went past him, but this had taken all his focus and the next moment, Ash grabbed the creature by the neck from behind, he had only a moment of head-start, before the thing would start slashing him all over. So he squeezed with all his might and felt a spark rush out of the pores of his body. He closed his eyes as the strange feeling overwhelmed him, after a few moments, the creature's scream came, and then suddenly it stopped moving.
