The sun was high before Catherine took a moment to sit and rest her overworked legs. She’d finally put enough distance between herself and the castle. She didn’t think the fae knew her whereabouts or they would have recaptured her by now, considering how much magic she’d just expended. She hadn’t wanted to lag and risk giving them a chance to find her. While on the run through one of the vast surrounding woods, she’d called out to Bowen, but he’d made no appearance. To avoid breaking down, she thought about her magic. Where had the sudden burst of energy sprung from? She guessed the unstable shift in her magic had something to do with whatever was draining and manipulating her power, but of course, she couldn’t be sure of anything.
