Capítulo 12: Welcome Back

Y/N quickly wore her boots as the knocks became louder with each passing second. "You're gonna pay for the door if you break it, Sakura!" she shouted before rushing to the door.

As soon as Y/N came outside, Sakura started speaking, "We can't be late! You know her temper-"

"And I know yours, and that's why I'm quicker than usual," Y/N smiled at her.

"Ugh, Kakashi sensei really had to give you his bad habit too?"

"Hey! I don't complain about your temper being like Tsunade's!" Y/N said and pulled her, walking outside.

"Did you manage to decipher anything out of those nightmares?" Sakura asked, walking alongside her.

That's right. She had to inform the closest people she's with about her condition and so far, the only logical explanation they had about the nightmares was that her brain blocked out some memories. Memories that were traumatizing for her. And the voice she keeps hearing must be of someone she knew.

"So far, nothing. I don't think I'll ever recover unless I encounter something that triggers me," Y/N sighed, "Ugh, it's exhausting."

"Hey! Sakura! Y/N!"

A voice stopped them by their steps and they looked back. Konohamaru and his team were running towards them. "Oh, hey Konohamaru," Sakura greeted back.

"Where are you off to?" he asked.

"The main gate. We have to pick up the morning pedestrian traffic ledger for Lady Tsunade. You wanna come along?" she asked.

They agreed and started walking together. It was actually quite nostalgic when they heard about the missions Kohohamaru went to. Y/N really wanted to just forget about her stupid crush on the boy. And maybe she managed for a bit. She really did put her all concentration on training. She didn't leave her mind to be at rest much. But it was inevitable and there were times she couldn't help but think of him.

After all, his ambitious side was a huge help for motivation.

Besides, she didn't want to be the only one lagging behind. Ofcourse, training with Kakashi and Tsunade helped her a lot. Kakashi helped her with new moves she could use in water. Although, she still had a long way to go.

"Hey, by the way, have you got a word or anything from Naruto yet?" Konohamaru asked.

Sakura peeked at Y/N whose posture suddenly straightened up. Could she be more obvious? Chuckling, Sakura answered, "Nope, nothing yet. But..he should be popping up around here pretty soon." She knew her teammate was still in denial. She was sure though, about the fact that when Naruto does show up, Y/N would realize it very soon. And hopefully, accept the feelings she has been harboring for her blond friend.

As they arrived near the gates, Izumo and Kotetsu uttered some words that almost felt unbelievable. The timing of their conversation and this coincidence felt unreal.

"Something's waiting for you back in town," Izumo said.

Y/N immediately turned on her heels and ran back into the village. Searching for the blond, they stopped after seeing a familiar face - Jiraya. If he was here, then that means...

"Naruto is that you? When did you get back to the village Naruto!" Sakura yelled, passing by Y/N and stopping by a lampost.

Yes, it was him.

"Just now!" Naruto said and dropped down. Y/N couldn't move forward. She could feel her heart pounding against her chest.

Oh no.

No, she worked hard. She just wanted to forget these feelings but...seeing him it just all started coming back. Harder than ever.

Y/N stared at him from a distance as Sakura started talking to him. She could barely make out the words they'd been saying. She was just...trying to process how much he changed. For the better ofcourse. He was taller and surely taller than her.

And she could definitely understand how much stronger he was.

"Is that you Y/N?" Naruto said and stared at her. She wanted to believe that her teammate was just trying to make sure by the way his eyes scanned her whole body and eventually settled on her eyes. But nevertheless, it made her feel a bit...giddy. "It is you!"

He ran and stopped before her. Leaning forward towards her face, he said, "You haven't changed either!"

Oh. How disappointing. A part of Y/N did want to see if Naruto saw her in another light but...

He received a hard blow on his head, "Shut up Naruto! Can't you see how much she has changed!" Sakura shouted.

"Oh uh...sure! She's taller now!" he said grinning.

"Oh my god," Sakura sighed, "So sorry for that Y/N. He said the same to me."

Ah, now that hurts a bit more. She was the same as Sakura to him.

Well, it's Naruto and no one was as oblivious as him in these matters. Although it was disappointing, it also felt a bit adorable. This was the same Naruto that she'd last seen.

Y/N smiled, "Welcome back, Naruto."

Tsunade wanted to see how much they'd improved and therefore wanted them to go against Kakashi, who disappeared as soon as he was given the new Icha Icha book.

"Kakashi sensei! I'm sorry that I'd ever given it to him. That book's more important to him than our training!" Naruto complained.

"Well...I don't mind getting some rest to be honest," Y/N said.

"That's because you're his disciple and you're beginning to become more and more like him," Sakura said, "At least now we have time to discuss strategy."

Naruto moved back toward Shikamaru and Temari, and asked in a sly tone, "So, are you two going out or what?"

"Not even close idiot," Shikamaru said.

"You've got to be joking. Like I would ever even," Temari chuckled, "The Chunin exams are about to start. I've been running back and forth between your village and mine getting ready for it."

"Yeah that's right. And I'm her escort. It's a drag and don't ask how it happened but I've been put in charge of organizing the Chunin exams," Shikamaru said, then asking the question lingering in everyone's minds, "So what're you going to do about the Chunin exams, Naruto?"

"What do you mean?" Naruto asked.

"You're the only one in our year who isn't a Chunin," Shikamaru informed which came off as a harsh reality to him. Well, it was a lot harder to accept for him when he actually got to know how Gaara was the Kazekage.

"Okay, do you guys wanna have some food before going cause I know for sure he's gonna be late," Y/N said.

"So you wanna go there late too?" Sakura sighed walking away, "You guys go ahead. I think I'm gonna wait for him instead."

"W-wait, I wanna go too!" Naruto said, following her...leaving Y/N with Shikamaru and Temari. It was embarrassing and made her feel a bit...hurt but she didn't want to waste time either. She knew if it was her sensei that they were gonna go against, it would definitely take time. For god's sake, she has trained with him. She knows how many times she was starving at the end of it. Kakashi was relentless when it came to training.

"You guys can go ahead with your work. I'm gonna go have some food," she said to them and walked towards her home. She wanted to have ramen later with Naruto. For the time being, she had to have something healthy.

When she went to the third training ground, Kakashi was already present there and her friends were busy sulking. It wasn't much of a surprise why that's the case. Ofcourse it was because of Sasuke. "Oh if it isn't my favorite student," Kakashi said, eyes indicating a smile hidden under his mask, "You're quite early. Thank you for that."

"Oh," Y/N smiled back at him, "don't worry about that. I learned from the best, you see?"

"Favorite student?!" Naruto shouted and pulled Y/N by her arm, "How did you manage to do that!"

"He's being honest," Y/N smirked and pulled her hand away, "I've been on missions with him more than any one of you."

Hearing a tingling sound, they looked at their teacher who was holding three bells. "All right. Show me how far you've come. After all, you haven't given up on Sasuke, have you?" Kakashi said. Y/N felt strange whenever the topic came up. She didn't have much of an attachment when it came to him.

Kakashi knew about it. Maybe he was just testing her, wanted her to give her all when she had no motivation whenever the topic came in. He knew how riled up the rest of his students were gonna get except for his disciple. How would she compete with them with zero motivation? It's almost like demotivating someone in the face of danger. She knew it was just nothing when they wanted to get the bells back when they were kids. But this time, he was going to use his Sharingan. She felt conflicted about the cause. Bringing someone back against their wishes was not something she agreed to. Even if they were someone she knew. Being on missions taught her that.

"This time," he said eyes drifting towards his disciple, "It's serious."
