Capítulo 24: Delvin

<Elsie>

Just as I arrived in front of Delvin's infirmary, Dad's wheelchair appeared from inside. Nathan walked on his right side, while Cleopatra herself pushed the wheelchair. Dad's gaze stopped at me. A look that signifies anger or disgust. I looked away, more interested in staring at my nails.

Without rebuking me, Dad just walked past me. My eye glanced at Cleo who just smiled faintly, while Nathan was still standing in the doorway. Nathan seemed to have taken the time to put aside his duties at the office to visit Delvin here. He was still wearing his office suit.

"You came home early. When you wake up you leave again without saying goodbye. Until when will you stop doing that, Els?" Nathan asked sarcastically.

The corners of my lips drop down into a scornful chuckle. "Until Mom picked me up from the house and asked me to live with her."

"Listen." Nathan approached me. His sharp eyes narrowed. "Mom would never ask you to live with her."

I laughed sarcastically. "She's going to take me because she loves me."

"You just don't know something yet."

"Like what? Mom and Dad don't love each other? I know it."

"That's not it, Elisabeth Sven Cavern. Maybe you'll think twice if you find out. Trust me."

Nathan walked away leaving me standing in a rage. Not caring about my pursed lips in annoyance or my eyeballs glancing at his departure. His footsteps were fast and long. Until I saw him disappear around the other corner.

Before entering Delvin's room, I took a deep breath. I opened the door to Delvin's infirmary, to find my second brother lying down, wincing in pain. I flashed a scornful smile, walking knocking over to his carcass. Several parts of his body were bandaged; there are red spots on the bandage.

"Is it good, huh?" I said while patting his hanging leg.

"Damn, Elsie!" he screamed in pain. "Isn't it a pity to see your brother like this??"

"Thank God, I didn't report anything you did all this time." I sat on the chair next to his bed, staring fixedly at Delvin's pale face.

Taking a deep breath, Delvin replied, "I do lie to them a lot. But believe me this time. I'm not lying. Someone's trying to kill me."

I sneered. "Oh really?"

"I never lie to you, Elsie. Really. On my way home from college, someone grazed my car, breaking my concentration and I hit a tree trunk. And when I got out of the car, someone else hit me from behind. Luckily someone caught the stranger, so I'm still alive."

I didn't find any lies in Delvin's two dimly shining eyes. It looked like someone was trying to kill him. Hmm, maybe the enemies in disguise. He's a delinquent and has a lot of enemies. Again, I hit his leg until he screamed.

"Though I wished you were dead then."

"What kind of sister are you," he snorted. "I didn't tell Dad you are bi. Proof that I love you, Elsie."

"Shut up." I didn't know why I don't like people bringing up my sexuality. Dad was very conservative. I didn't want to hear his wrath.

Because I don't want to hear Delvin's bullshit anymore, I decided to leave his infirmary. I slammed the door to Delvin's infirmary hard enough, to attract the attention of several people around me. Before the hospital staff reprimanded me, I walked quickly—almost running—out of the hospital.
