Capítulo 12: Chapter 11: "Summons"

260 AC: The Crossing

Maester Brennett was in a hurry, walking as quickly as his fat body could possibly take him, to the city's outer walls. A raven of his Lord's return had arrived, and they were to show up any moment. But this was not the reason for his fluster and lack of poise, the reason for his panic was due to the letters that had just arrived, one from the King's Landing and one by House Tully, their overlords. While Brennett knew about his Lord's disdain towards House Tully and House Targaryen, these letters were still imperative, and needed to be handed over to the Lord of the Crossing as soon as possible.

After taking longer than Brennett would like to admit, he arrived at the outer gates of the city, along the way he had met Lady Reyanna and Lady Genna's entourage who were also going to the outer gates to welcome their lord back home. Maester Brennett had quite the positive opinion of the two ladies, as they were both very intelligent and wise. With Lady Genna always providing ideas and counsel to their lord, especially about his plans of the city expansion. While Lady Reyanna was a woman like no other, possesses strength that Brennett could not comprehend. Having seen her sparring often with Lord Walder, Brennett was still astonished everytime he witnessed the scene. The flurry of steel and power was not something a learned person like him could understand, but he could make the well educated presumption that Lady Reyanna had no rival in terms of the sword. Her movements are agile and precise, yet wild and instinctive, like a beast on a hunt.

"The Lord is back! Open the gates!" came a shout, as the guard on top of the wall saw Walder's group approaching. Maester Brennett quickly tries to compose himself, and catch his breath.

*Clop clop clop clop clop

Came the sound of hooves, as fifty mounted knights trotted through the city gates. Seeing his lord, Maester Brennett could not help but still be astonished at the size of his physique. 'Lord Frey is indeed a monster among men.' he thought

*THUD!

Walder had dismounted from his horse with swift ease, landing on the stone floor with ease. "Ladies!" Walder smiles, as he sees the girls who had come to greet him. He opens his arms, which the girls quickly came forward and landed in his embrace with no care of their image.

"Maester." Walder nods in acknowledgement, to which Brennett says hurriedly,

"My Lord! I hate to break this touching reunion between you and the ladies, but a letter had arrived from King's Landing, from the king and House Tully as well. It seems to be urgent."

Reyanna and Genna turn their heads to glare at Brennett for interrupting their moment, too which Brennett could only smile awkwardly as sweat dripped from his brow. "Letters." Walder extends his hand and Maester Brennett immediately hands over the two letters he had in his hands.

Walder first tore open the letter bearing the crest of House Targaryen and it reads:

________________________________________________

To Lord Walder Frey of the Twins, Keeper of the Crossing,

By royal command of Jaehaerys Targaryen, Second of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm,

I write to you in a time of dire need, for the peace and prosperity of the realm hangs by a thread. The usurpers styling themselves the Band of Nine have laid claim to the Stepstones, threatening the free trade routes and the stability of Westeros itself. Their ambitions must be crushed before they take root and spread like a pestilence across the Narrow Sea.

As a sworn lord of the Iron Throne, I command you to muster your banners and march with your host to join the royal forces in defense of our shared kingdom. Your position as the Keeper of the Crossing has afforded House Frey prosperity and prominence. Now is the time to prove your loyalty to crown and country.

Send word to my Hand of the King with your forces' readiness and route. Delay is not an option, for the enemies of the realm grow bolder with each passing day. Together, we shall ensure that the name of Targaryen remains unchallenged, and the peace of the Seven Kingdoms endures.

Do not mistake this call for service as a favor to the Crown, Lord Walder, but rather as your solemn duty as a bannerman. The Freys' strength lies not only in their position at the Twins but also in their unity with the realm they serve. Let your name be remembered among those who answered the call to arms in defense of Westeros.

By my word and my command,

Jaehaerys ll Targaryen

Second of His Name

King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men

Lord of the Seven Kingdoms

Protector of the Realm

________________________________________________

"So it is time..." Walder says, then trails off.

"What time My Lord?" asks Reyanna, while Genna and Brennett looked over with curiosity and caution. To this Walder does not answer, but tears open the second letter by House Tully.

________________________________________________

To Lord Walder Frey of the Crossing,

Lord Frey,

The realm is in peril. The Band of Nine, a coalition of would-be kings and sell-swords, has seized the Stepstones, disrupting trade and threatening the stability of Westeros. Their ambitions will not stop there; unchecked, they may soon turn their gaze to the shores of our own lands.

As Lord of House Tully and Warden of the Riverlands, I call upon you, my bannerman, to fulfill the sacred oaths sworn to Riverrun. Your strength, Lord Frey, and the countless swords of the Crossing, are needed to join this campaign against the Band of Nine. Together with the great Houses of Westeros, we shall put an end to their schemes and safeguard the honor and security of our realm.

This is your chance to prove House Frey's loyalty and valor before all the great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms. Such deeds will not go unnoticed, and House Tully is ever mindful of those who rise to the occasion when the call is made.

I trust you will muster your forces and march without delay. Time is of the essence, and the realm looks to us to act with courage and resolve. I await your reply and your banners at Riverrun, where we shall join the other Houses in this noble endeavor.

May the gods guide your hand and shield your House in the days to come.

By my authority as Lord of Riverrun,

William Tully

Lord Paramount of the Trident, Warden of the Riverlands

"So it is." Walder nods, while he personally held no importance in the summons, or respect for the two houses themselves. Walder recognized this as an opportunity to complete the system mission that requires him to make a name for himself, and what better way than the War of the Ninepenny Kings.

"Reyanna, call the banners. I want 750 soldiers and 200 knights. Also gather 50 of Iron Guardians." The Iron Guardians of the Crossing is the chivalric order name Walder had decided to bestow upon his summoned hero knights.

"A war is coming, and I'll be damned if I'd miss the fun." Walder smiles evilly, his presence surging, full of might and oppression.

"Gulp..." Maester Brennett swallows a mouthful of his saliva, Walder's oppressive aura was something that he was still not gotten used too, it weighed heavily on his untrained body that had never seen combat.

"Maester Brennett, see to the writing the replies to House Tully and House Targaryen. I, Lord Walder Frey and House Frey shall answer the call."

"As you say My Lord". Brennett hurriedly nods his head, as he quickly runs away to the castle, escaping the terrifying aura that made his legs feel like they had turned to mud.

"Genna, sort out the logistics and supplies for our journey, I want to set out in a week's time. And call back Emmon, Aenys and Walder ll."

Both Genna and Reyanna nod in acknowledgement of their duties. Walder then with the entourage head back to the castle.

20 minutes later...

"Dddaaadddyyy!!!" came the enthusiastic screams of children, Walder's children. Walder sees four children like mini tornadoes hurtling towards him, while two more were held in their nannies arms.

The two children who were first to arrive had flaming red hair and blue eyes, while the other four all had dark brown hair with either hazel or green eyes. Yes, these 6 children are Walder's children that he had with Reyanna and Genna during these pass two years. Funnily enough, both Reyanna and Genna had twins the first time they got pregnant, only days apart, it was just after Genna and Emmon's wedding. While the two children being held by the nannies were only a year old.

"Hahaha come here little ones." as Walder bends down and attempts to scoop the four children that had run towards him into his arms.

"Ewwww Daddy, no no. You are dirty, so much blood!" the eldest of the children squealed, her name was Darcelle Frey.

"Yes yes Daddy, you are dirty!" laughs the second redheaded child, Kieran Frey.

"Nooooo, you can't be rude to Daddy! He is dirty because he went to fight bad guys to protect us!" came the scolding of the third child, the eldest of Genna and Walder's children, Onelia Frey.

"Yes sister! You are right!" Onelia's twin, Thaddeus Frey nods in agreement.

"My Lord." the nannies bow slightly as they greeted Walder, still holding the other two children their arms, Draven and Matthias Frey.

"Darcelle, Kieran! That is no way to speak to your father!" Reyanna hurriedly scolds her children with embarrassment, while Genna at the side nods with satisfaction at her own children, earning her a big smile from Onelia and Thaddeus.

"Buuuttt Mooooommmm!" Darcelle and Kieran whine at the continuous scolding.

"No buts! Otherwise, do you want me to have Maester Brennett tell you about Aegon The Conquerer." Reyanna continues being strict, as her children were really too mischievous for their own good, and more needed rigid discipline than Genna's children, who were all very sensible and smart.

"Nooooooo don't tell Maester Brennett to talk us about that dragon pansy!" Kieran recoils in horror, as he thought about listening to the maester drone on and on about Aegon The Conquerer, a man which his father had thoroughly broken down his incompetencies and lack of personal might. A man while quite revered by most, but to the Frey children was just a bastard with no real qualities apart from his dragons and sister-wives.

"Now now, let's head inside children, I'll play with you later, but first I will go wash up." Walder says, while using his eyes to signal Genna and Reyanna.

Genna and Reyanna blush, as they understood what Walder was trying to convey. Darcelle, the most observant of the children immediately noticed this exchange and exclaimed, "Ewwwwwww!!!"

But was quickly shut up by a glare from Reyanna. "Hahahahaha!" Walder booms with laughter as he and the group heads into the castle.

PENSAMENTOS DOS CRIADORES
mori04 mori04

We are finally entering the stage where the world will see a completely different Walder Frey.

The reason why I skipped over the Tragedy at Summerhall and birth of Rhaegar, was because that part of the plot isn't too relevant to Walder.

Everyone do leave your thoughts so I can see if people enjoying this fanfic.
