Caden stood stoically among the lilacs and lavender growing on the ground that once was his family’s original home. The approaching storm was beginning to fill the sky with billowing, dark clouds.
“You are going to fight?” Lewis asked tentatively. “How do vampires even do war?”
“We fight like anyone else,” Asher said coldly, and turned to the mortals. A faint smile teased his lips, “Though...it’s a lot more dramatic. I should take them home before we go.”
“Go?” repeated Edith.
“There’s no time,” Caden looked sadly at his friend. “We must head to the other realm now.”
The three vampires stared up at the incoming storm. The mortals looked at each other.
“We’ll have to walk,” Sam stood up, doing some random stretches. “I’m in. Let’s make this world a better place, and save our friend while we are at it.”
He patted Edith on the shoulder. Edith smiled briefly, heart warmed by the kindness shown by her co-worker. She turned to Caden.
