7.54% The Kryptonian Emperor Through The Multiverse / Chapter 8: Aftermath

Capítulo 8: Aftermath

"Zizzizi... Sir, things have taken a turn for the worse."

Zod's expression changed, and Fiora, standing beside him, inquired, "General, what's happening?"

"Jor-El has escaped, and he's headed for the Creation Room."

"The Creation Room? Is he trying to seize the Code of Life? We need to hurry..."

The two exchanged urgent glances and rushed out. The Presbyterians were merely observers; the Code of Life had been their insurance for countless years in the universe.

Everything hinged on the Code of Life. Losing this artifact meant that although Kryptonian civilization might remain at its peak among the races, it could no longer be considered a god-level civilization.

The Code of Life was one of Krypton's highest forms of technology. To put it frankly, no other race in the universe possessed the ability to fully analyze its own genes and transform them to such an extent. The Kryptonian race took immense pride in this accomplishment.

Outside the Elder Hall, warships were engaged in battles all around. Countless laser weapons fired continuously, and even the city's defense systems had been activated, with automated artillery targeting the attackers.

The battleships in the sky were divided into two sides, with the opposing faction likely being Zod's forces. It was difficult to distinguish between them, perhaps because the city's defenders hadn't expected their former comrades to suddenly turn against them, catching them off guard.

Inside the Creation Room, Joe El had broken free from his escort and arrived there. He forcefully entered and plunged into the nutrient solution within the chamber. The solution, resembling water, contained extremely high energy, enough to facilitate the birth of hundreds of Kryptonians simultaneously.

"Kayla, are you certain this is the way?"

Tensions remained high in the Elder Hall. A group of elders sat gathered, and those who had previously guarded them were now restrained by the opposing faction.

Kayla's brow furrowed slightly as he replied, "My fellow council members, I've never encountered someone like Varion. Do you know how young he is? Yet, he's acutely aware of the crisis that lurks within our race. Trust me, he can do this."

The other members of theScience Council let out deep sighs. How could they not be aware of Krypton's impending crisis, one they had orchestrated and set into motion tens of thousands of years ago? The sense of helplessness among them was palpable.

"For Krypton."

"...For Krypton."

Kayla took a deep breath and concluded, "For Krypton."

Success was imperative; otherwise, Krypton would fall and ultimately vanish from the universe.

As the light screen displayed the events unfolding in the Creation Room, Jor-El's intrusion, Zod's people waiting outside, and the Varion Organization members watching from a distance, the members of theScience Council observed with great concern. They seemed detached, as if these events didn't concern them, but their underlying worry was palpable.

Regardless of the outcome, they represented the future of Krypton and carried its hope.

"Jor-El, you have committed a Class B crime. Please cease your actions now," a voice called out from outside the Creation Room as Jor-El attempted to steal the Code of Life. The defense mechanisms were activated immediately, with gun barrels aimed at him, ready to respond to any slight movement.

Boom! A cannonball struck the battery around the Creation Room, and Jor-El realized it was Zod's doing.

"On the order of the General, Jor-El, surrender the Code of Life immediately. This is an order, or I can resort to the last measure."

What was the last measure? Killing him. As long as the Code of Life remained intact, scientists like Jor-El could be replaced over time. For the future of Krypton, no sacrifice was too great.

Jor-El looked up, a smile on his lips, and then he fell from the tower, plummeting rapidly. The soldiers on the battleship above couldn't believe what they were seeing. But Jor-El had a plan; his bird was waiting below and caught him as he fell.

"Quick, or the General will have our heads," the impatient soldiers on the battleship urged. They fired artillery rounds at Jor-El, who was flying ahead. In a city filled with high-rises, they hoped to strike him down.

Jor-El, an experienced pilot, maneuvered at low altitudes, making it challenging for the battleship at higher altitudes to target him. Moreover, the city was still partially under Kryptonian control, with defenders everywhere, making it difficult for the battleship to succeed immediately.

Unexpectedly, a laser cannon fired from an inconspicuous location, hitting the flank of Zod's battleship.

As Jor-El flew, he thought they had given up the chase. Seeing no pursuers behind him, he gained altitude and headed straight for his castle. Little did he know that a surprise awaited him there.

In the Presbyterian Hall, the members of theScience Council couldn't help but smile as they watched the scene.

"Kayla, this kid looks a lot like you back in the day!"

Kayla stroked his beard and chuckled. "Are they both equally shameless?"

"No, it's not shameless; it's just clever and full of schemes."

"After all these years, your mouth hasn't changed a bit, still as foul as ever."

The other members of theScience Council joined in the laughter. They were all Kryptonians from the same era, and who didn't know what they were like back then? Maintaining such a mentality during Krypton's final moments was indeed a challenge.
