Ray sat on a sofa twisting water around his finger in a long string. It was being held up by his magic, and the look on his face showed how happy he was to be able to be a hydromancer.
"Hey, are your teeth okay?"
Ray's smile showed extremely large multi layer teeth that went down to about 3 inches in.
"No, my passive gives me access to shark abilities. So have these."
He lifted his gums and chomped down his jaw twice to show off his teeth.
"Shark abilities!?! Can you breathe underwater and swim really fast?! Or maybe smell blood."
"Yes, yes, and no. I can also surround myself in water and shoot it up as I swim it. It's super fast, I would use it more but it's crazy high in mana cost so if I try to go more than a mile I can't do it."
"Even so, mobility skills are really good in combat, you're so lucky."
"Don't think I don't remember your performance, you have lightning mobility skill. I'm not sure how you got it though, unless it's your active skill."
"Oh nononono, it's from this bracelet."
Jake showed Ray the thunder bracelet, and shot off a small lightning ring.
"I found its damage to be too small and it can't suppress too well unless I'm at long enough range to hold it on them in the rings for a few seconds. But with how big the knockback is I could channel it to launch myself like a mobility skill."
"You have an item like that, you must be rich haha."
He gave a small chuckle.
"Naw, I just got them from my parents. This and my necklace, heirlooms I think."
"Cool. I hope that you weren't too carried by item, you're the lowest level of all of this so I hope you can keep up."
Another light chuckle from Jake as he lit up a flame spear
"I think I'll be fine."
"Daaaaaam, why didn't you use that during the test?!? That's definitely really strong?"
"Oh this, it's new. I got it when I was training against slimes."
"Nice, which do you think is stronger?"
Ray formed a trident of water with shark teeth looking tips to match up to Jake's Spear. They were both curious so they slowly clashed with each other. Ray won easily due to the type advantage, but it was all in good fun.
Criss soon walked it with his bayoneted rifle on his back. Criss sat down with the two of them and started a conversation. The rest of the party members trickled in until Jaylen and the skeletons brought in the omelets. Everyone ate except Yin, as lion beastmen were carnivorous. Everyone soon went off to their first classes, Jakes being a magic class.
Jake and Jaylen both were in the same class, but the other mages in his group were all elsewhere. The class had around fifty students with two teachers.
The first teacher looked to be in his mid twenties and the other in her early thirties.
Alright class, today's lesson is on mana flow through the body."
He didn't give an intro or anything, and just started lecturing.
¨Mana is the core of all magic, and it flows through everything. Most magic is stored in the core right below the ribcage or abdomen for thoughts without endoskeletons. There are mana veins if you look close enough under the skin with mana vision, but this chart shows the majority of the large ones"
He pulled up pictures of a few races with glowing veins to represent the mana in them. It had a lot of smaller veins in the limbs and a few large ones that went near the spine that nearly directly matched up with nerves. There was of course a ton more but its base went with it.
¨This makes channeling mana externally is easiest through the hands, and internally through the core. You can slowly boost your magic stat by practicing circulating mana around daily. Eventually you will be able to speed the mana inside you up enough to fire a blast of pure magic. It's not mana efficient, but it's good if you don't have any other ranged options.¨
He talked for the rest of the two hour class about techniques to circulate mana. It was very similar to circulating ki except it was a lot harder to get started before it started going smoothly. It was a very interesting lecture, but without a mage class he didn't get an exp towards it. For mages, they could get exp from learning more about magic or fighting using magic; Tanks and warriors got it from practice or combat, so every class got it in their own way of gaining experience. One of the students even leveled up during the class, but this was mostly common knowledge and if they knew it already they wouldn't get exp for it.
He had a monster class next, and even though it didn't give anyone experience outside of some special classes, it was super important for surviving in dungeons with how often mutations happened.
Mutations are when dungeons change their shape and often the monsters in it, even if their general type and power level stays the same. This can cause the people in it to be clueless about the monsters they are up against, which is often fadal. But with classes like this one they could at least have an idea of how to defeat threats they aren't prepared for.
"This year, we start with poisonous monsters as they are going to be the most difficult to deal with if you don't bring the antidotes you need."
Yet another class started without intro.
"Snakes are going to be the biggest threat to an unprepared adventure. This is because of their quantity, venom, and stealth. When you see one, remember they will almost always go for the ankles, so look down and make sure they can't touch you. Desert snakes will come out of the sand if your footsteps are loud enough to shake them, so in a sandy environment take large hard steps to bring them up without the surprise factor. There are... "
