Capítulo 1: Chapter 1: unwanted wish
A sharp beep echoed in the dimly lit room, pulling the man from the depths of unconsciousness. His eyes fluttered open, and he was immediately greeted by the harsh glare of fluorescent lights overhead. He blinked, disoriented, his mind sluggish as if wading through a thick fog. The sterile smell of antiseptic and the quiet hum of machinery filled the air.
He tried to move, but a myriad of wires and tubes restrained him, attached to various machines that monitored his vitals. Panic set in as he realized he was in what seemed to be a hospital or perhaps a lab. He strained to remember what had happened, but his mind drew a blank. There was no accident, no event that could explain why he was here.
With great effort, he scanned the room. His gaze landed on a small mirror propped on a nearby table. Determined to see himself, he reached out, only to be met with a searing pain that shot through his entire body. He winced and looked at his hands. They were covered in scars, as if they had been crudely stitched together. A sense of dread washed over him.
Ignoring the pain, he pulled the thin cover off his body and gasped. His body was a grotesque tapestry of wounds,burned flesh, deep gashes, and patches where the skin seemed to have been peeled away. It was as if he had been subjected to unspeakable torture.
He bit back a cry of anguish and reached for the mirror again. Every movement was agony, but he persisted. Finally, he grasped it and brought it close to his face. The sight that greeted him was beyond horrifying. His face was a ruin of missing meat and charred flesh, resembling that of a walking corpse.
And then, memories flooded his mind with an intensity that made him stagger. He remembered growing up in a lab, along with other kids. They were subjects of experiments and had to fight each other from time to time using what seemed like superpowers. He recalled the constant pain of needles piercing his skin, strange substances being injected into his veins, and the brink of death becoming a familiar friend. The relentless cycle of near-death experiences and survival for further torment played out in vivid detail.
But these memories were not his. He had never endured such horrors. He trembled violently, the mirror slipping from his grasp and shattering on the floor. His body was wracked with the realization that these memories belonged to someone else.
And then it clicked. He had reincarnated and taken over another's body. He was familiar with the concept as he had read and watched a lot of manhwas and anime. There were even times where he wished for death due to the disappointing decisions he had made during his life, he wished he could just start from zero and have a new beginning, just like in the Novels. Yet giving up and running away wasn't that simple,he had friends, family and people who cared about him, so he had to push through. Slowly, he managed to get his life together, and just as he began to see hope and enjoy life, god, fate, or whoever was in charge decided to pull this sick joke on him and grant him his wish.
A wave of nausea swept over him as the gravity of his situation settled in. He was powerless and had no choice but to accept his new reality. He still had too many unanswered questions,who was the owner of this body, what had happened, did he die to get here?. But that would have to wait as it's not the time. For now, he needed to focus on one thing and one thing only.
A deep sense of dread and determination settled over him. He needs to figure out a way to escape this place.
