Akiol was teleported into the arena. He was quite intrigued on how the players were teleported without any help from the developers. Or maybe they did have some help.
The next set of thoughts was on how much larger the arena was on the inside. When spectating the matches from the outside it looked like the arena was bigger, just not to this extent.
Akiol eyed his opponent, it was an ordinarily armored Warrior. When the countdown finished and the battles begun, Akiol's opponent remained still.
The person was named Dee. Something Akiol remembered the name appearing on the board. It was a strange name, but Akiol wasn't one to judge. The two stood there, unmoving.
Akiol had no qualms against waiting. He didn't plan on doing the first move. With no information on his opponent making the first move was risky.
Then the area turned dark, clouds appeared out of thin air. The sky turned a dark purple. Akiol noticed these changes but Dee had not moved.
Reverence smiled at this, this was the class he had specifically asked for. Invulnerability? It would be useless against this class.
Dee's class was called Fated Thread. The skill he had just used was called [Fated Life]. The user would show the thread of life for themselves and their opponent. If one player got damaged it would affect the other player's thread. After five minutes whoever's thread was in the worse condition would be cut, ending their life. Of course Akiol did not know this.
Dee pulled out a small knife and stabbed his hand, dealing a small amount of damage. Akiol raised an eyebrow at this, if the timer ran out and he had more health doesn't that make him the winner?
Akiol wouldn't mind a free win, but he knew something was off. Reverence had definitely tampered with the matchups. Meaning Dee had a specific thing to take care of Akiol. Yet he had no idea what it could be.
He quickly searched through his memories, trying to find a clue. During the duel between himself and Unyielding Blossom. Was it the temporary invulnerability given by [Dimension Dive]?
Invulnerability. . . he hadn't been hurt during the duel. All the attacks went through him. From Reverence's eyes it would look like he was immune to physical damage. So if that was the case then his opponent had to have a special skill to do with that.
The change of area, the stab in their hand. Was it a ritual? Thoughts like such ran through Akiol's head. He took a closer look, he couldn't see anything around Dee. Akiol searched further away from Dee. Then he noticed.
Far above the sky was a long thin thread above Dee. A pair of scissors slowly moved closer to it. Akiol looked above himself and saw a similar sight.
The threads, what did they mean? What action did Dee make that could play a hand in this?
The stab, Dee only stabbed their hand after the area changed. What was the stab for? There was something significant about that one move.
Akiol, left no choice, dashed towards Dee. As he got closer he noticed a lack of movement from Dee. Even when Akiol's blade pierced him there was no reaction.
Akiol frowned and teleported away, he didn't wish to stay close any longer. Less something sinister happens.
Akiol was concerned from the lack of movement from Dee. Almost as if they were accepting the damage freely. Akiol looked up to his thread. It was slightly undone, as if it was coming apart.
It all made sense, the stab, the lack of movement, Reverence's assumptions. When Dee stabbed his hand it was to tamper with Akiol's thread slightly.
From the look of the scissors Akiol was convinced that they would snap the weaker one. Meaning any damage dealt would weaken the other's thread.
So Akiol had to deal damage to himself, more than what Dee had received. That was pitifully easy, one thing Reverence didn't know was his weak spot, his core. The Achilles' Heel of the slime body.
Akiol aimed his sword at his core, then hesitated. He looked at the scissors aiming for the thread. The scissors was the time limit. If he attacked himself now then Dee would have an opportunity to do more damage to himself.
Akiol wasn't sure if he fully depleted his HP it would finish if Dee first. He could risk it by killing Dee, but it could also spell his own doom. So Akiol waited, he would beat them at their own game.
The scissors closed in, the point where the two blades meet had touched the thread. The extended outwards quickly. It was now that Akiol acted. He stabbed his core, aiming it so it only cut into it and not split it. His body weakened and shivered as the damage rapidly depleted his HP.
<Critical Hit! -800HP (Akiol)>
Dee's face showed the first sign of emotion, surprise. His thread began to unravel rapidly. Dee raised his own sword, prepared to stab himself. Yet he couldn't move, Akiol was kneeling on the ground clearly weakened. Yet this frightening cold aura extended from his body, freezing Dee with fear.
This was the [Chilling Aura] that came with Everbright Snow. Dee was unable to move when the scissors snapped closed. Akiol's thread broke the scissors, leaving them bent. Dee's thread was cut and he slumped to the ground.
Akiol let out a breath of air, it was more intense than he anticipated. It was a good plan, it was a shame that the info used to make the plan was incomplete. Leading to an incompatible plan.
Reverence gripped his chair, there was a way! A way to harm Akiol! He was fully unaware and this lead to his loss.
Akiol was teleported out of the arena and back to his original position. He was fully recovered, almost like nothing had happened.
Akiol frowned at this, there was no way that the Guilds had no help from the developers. There was something more to this. To confirm this suspicion he asked, Reverence, "Was this competition created purely with the Guilds own power?"
Reverence put on a emotionless expression, "Of course."
"There was no help from the developers?"
"Of course not, it wouldn't be very secret then."
Akiol sent a message to Wrock via the group chat.
Akiol: Were you fully recovered after you won your battle?
Wrock: Now you mention it. . . yeah.
Akiol looked at the stadium again, now seeing it in a new light he noticed a bit of odd parts. There were strange carvings around the main arena. The arena itself looked less like an arena.
Akiol: Take a look at the place, doesn't it seem like a sacrificial alter?
Wrock got up and surveyed the area, having read the message from Akiol he had to agree.
Wrock: If you look at it from a certain standpoint, but it barely counts.
Akiol excused himself from the room. He had to look around himself. If his suspicions proved correct then something major would happen.

Travis dashed at incredible speeds, explosions broke the area behind him. Sliding under some broken rubble he entered a room. Not bothering to look he rushed towards the center. In the middle was a dark prism. It was so black it was absorbing all the light around it.
Travis snatched this and stuffed it into his inventory. He then teleported to another area. He had been here previously, he teleported back using his newly acquired Artifact.

It was the artifact he received from Uvos. It was in a box on their body. When he equipped something was implanted in his eye. This was a fantastic thing, for his mask would hide the change.
Travis ran to a room, flipping the switches as he ran past. At the end of the room a pedestal was arising from the ground. Grabbing the dark prism from his inventory he fit it in the open slot in the pedestal.
It glowed and pulsed. Travis stopped running for the boss of the place could not enter this room.
The pedestal sank back into the ground. Behind it a ring began to spin, a dark grey substance began to fill the middle of the ring. Once it finished an announcement rang for all to hear.
<A player has unlocked the Everlasting Abyss. The creatures from the Abyss will now roam the world.>
Travis closed his eyes this was it, the Everlasting Abyss was the only place he knew to obtain the Abyssal Fragments.
He took a breath and jumped in the portal.
