Capítulo 44: Chapter 44: Surrender or Die!

[Argh! My head… ] Zaos awoke after a few minutes with a massive headache. He looked around in a daze before slowly registering his situation.

[I passed out huh… ] He picked himself up before moving with slow and unsteady steps to the dried husk a few meters ahead of him.

[This is all that is left of a high-elf after being stabbed by my Superior-grade dagger…] Zaos gazed at the corpse with mixed feelings. On one hand, he was happy to have won against his opponent so easily, on the other hand, he was forced to see the reality of his situation. He was not as powerful as he initially thought, and without his Superior-grade dagger, the fight would have ended with his loss.

[I can't delay any further! I need to advance!] He clenched his fists tightly.

*Boom!*

His thoughts were interrupted by an explosion coming from the battlefield at the fortress's walls.

[It seems I didn't pass out for too long,] Zaos flipped over the dried husk beneath him. The slight contact with his hands caused the husk to crumble into dust leaving a sleek dark-colored dagger, a set of clothes, a bow, and a quiver full of arrows in its original position.

[...the potency of this decay property of the dagger is highly potent!] Zaos' eyes sparkled. He carefully picked up the dagger and placed it in its sheath.

He grabbed his opponent's bow and made his way down the tower.

[It's about time this battle ended, I can't have them waste potential resources on some pointless conflict,] Zaos hastened his steps, he was no longer as light-headed as before.

As he made his way to the battlefield, Zaos noticed that most of the residential buildings and structures were still left intact.

He didn't know if it was the defenders doing a good job at protecting their home or if it was because of his orders to limit the damage done to the Thieves Guild.

[Either way, this is good,] Zaos smiled. The less that had to be repaired after the battle, the better.

After navigating through the residential area, Zaos soon arrived at the battlefield.

The entire battlefield was as chaotic as it could be; some of the walls of the fortress had been destroyed, the floors were littered with blood and corpses, and in various areas around the massive wall, large-scale and small-scale battles took place.

Among the countless battles on the field, the most eye-catching was a section of the battlefield charred black by an intense heat.

In that part of the battlefield, massive fireballs were being hurled continuously at a particular figure who was doing their best to reach the source of the fireballs.

After taking in the scenery for a few seconds, Zaos released his killing intent on the entire battlefield.

A thick, ethereal, purple-black pressure descended on the battlefield halting all present on their tracks.

The killing intent was so powerful that even those beyond the fortress walls could feel it.

"What a dreadful being…" The leader of the Raven Guild couldn't help but comment as he gazed at the source of the killing intent.

[The power of my killing intent has increased once again…] Zaos nodded.

Killing intent was not a skill or technique that could be learned. It was a manifestation of the primal desire to kill. To manifest one's killing intent, the amount of bloodshed the person has committed is required to have reached a certain threshold.

Zaos had killed many individuals in his former life, and coupled with his primal vampiric desires which seemed to strengthen whenever he killed high-level beings; his killing intent had reached an unprecedented level.

[I can still control myself around blood but my desire for violence grows stronger… ] Zaos didn't think deeply on the matter and instead focused his attention on the elves before him.

He retrieved his killing intent and addressed the elves.

"The battle is already over, the Bandit King is no more!" Zaos lifted his opponent's bow for all to see.

"Victory!!" "The leader is supreme!!" "The Red Lotus is unstoppable!!"

The elves from the Thieves Guild were stunned silent while the elves from the Red Lotus gang cheered loudly.

"I guess that's it. The Thieves Guild and the Red Lotus gang now belong to him," The Raven Guild's leader shook his head. His tone expressed regret.

The Venom Panther looked on for a while before ultimately leaving.

The Raven Guild's leader also followed suit after a moment of consideration. The other party's power was not something he could contend with alone.

Since the strongest beings present took no action against the newly ascended leader of the Thieves Guild, the other gangs and forces either followed their example and left or stayed behind to continue observing.

Zaos on the other hand was pleased with the reactions of the elves present.

[Good, now with a bit of oppression, they won't dare take action against us.] Zaos lowered his hand.

"The Thieves Guild's members can either choose to submit or die!" Zaos crossed his arms behind his back.

Immediately after Zaos made his statement, a large number of elves from the Thieves Guild dropped their weapons, expressing their surrender. The fire elf: Goren was one of them.

Zaos gazed at the elves that refused to surrender and issued an order.

"Darfin! Have the elves that refused to surrender execute, alongside their families. As for those that have surrendered, work with the others from my Red Lotus gang to repair the damages done here!" Zaos then walked back to the tower, leaving the elves to carry out his orders.

Zaos made his way through the empty residential streets. The residents still didn't dare to come out of their houses even after the explosions had stopped.

He arrived at the tower, passed through the grand hall, and returned to the guild master's office.

He looted the area, taking any important item he could find, including documents, keys, and mana gems. When he was done, he exited the room, returning to the hallway.

He walked through the hallway until he arrived at a door labeled "Guild master's bedroom".

Zaos opened the bedroom door with one of the keys he had with him and entered the room. The room was furnished appropriately, with a large king-sized bed, a beautiful wooden wardrobe, a bedside table, a candle chandelier, and a few paintings for aesthetic purposes.

Zaos set down the items in his hands and placed his weapons on easily accessible spots on the bed before collapsing on the bed.

Although he had slept for a bit when he fainted, he was still exhausted from the excessive drain caused by his battle with the Bandit King. This was another reason he was pleased when the elves took no action against him.

After a few hours of sleep, Zaos was awoken by the sound of knocking on his door.

"Who is it?" He sprung into a sitting position on the bed.

"Boss, it's Darfin. The task you assigned has been completed," Darfin's deep masculine voice sounded from behind the door.

[That was fast… ] Zaos stretched his stiff body.

"Alright. Assemble everyone in the hall. I will address you all in a few minutes," Zaos got out of bed.

"Yes, boss!" Darfin said before making his way to the lower floor.
