Capítulo 9: Chapter 9

At the docks at night, everywhere was calm, quiet and peaceful. Nothing could be heard besides the sounds of the waves of the sea crashing unto themselves in a hypnotic motion.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

A large ball of fire was shot into the far distance of the sea. The water instantly got vaporized upon making contact with the large mass of heat. A large amount of steam surrounded the docks, obscuring everything.

The steam lingered for a bit before settling down to reveal a short black haired figure. Looking clearly, it could be noticed that the figure was that of a child of probably nine years old. The child's torso was bare, the only piece of clothing on him being the white short he sported.

He had a grin on his face. He had finally done it. It had been roughly two years since he begun his stay in this small town and he had finally been able to retrain his jutsus to their original size and power. He still lived with Shen and his family. It wasn't necessarily something he had a choice over at this point.

After about two months of restocking and taking stock of what needed to be done for the time being, he was ready to move and live where he could be alone and train without much restrictions.

That was the original plan at least. When he tried to find a place to stay, he was given looks of resent and hate as he made his way through the streets. He wasn't bothered by the looks that were being directed at him, neither did he care for their opinion. There was only one small problem.

Any place he found legally would be barely livable and would be under constant watch and any place he found illegally would give them an excuse the pour out their pent up resentment on him and would also keep him under constant watch. Out of necessity, he stayed with Shen and his family.

Of course, he did his search about the reason for the looks and found out two things. First of all, he found out that rumors were being spread about him and the fact that he was from the fire nation had circulated around the town.

The second thing he found out was that the human mind can only take so much before completely shutting down. All the trails he lead to find out who started spreading it lead to dead ends and more questions...not that he needed an investigation to know who did it but that was for him to know. The only thing he was trying to find out at this point was the reason why they were doing this.

He made his way back to the Shen family house, using the cover of the darkness to mask his nightly escapades.

Morning came quickly as sunlight shone upon the town. People went about their daily lives like nothing was out of place.

"Did you hear about what happened last night." A middle aged man said to a young man as they sat in an open stall drinking tea.

"Hear about what?" The young man asked.

"Someone said they heard the brat practicing his fire bending by the port last night." The old man replied.

"Really?" The young man asked in slight shock.

"Who knows how long we have until the fire nation comes breathing down our necks." The old man said with resentment filling his tone.

Sasuke sat on the roof of Shen's house, enjoying the cool afternoon breeze. This was one of the rare breaks he had to cut back at bit on training and relax for a bit.

He had gotten used to the original weight seals which had taken more time to create an even heavier one to continue training. At this moment, he was simply enjoying the scenery when he suddenly tilted his head to the side as a piece of stone went past his head.

He didn't bother to look at the culprit as the sound of a small figure running away gave him all the hint he needed. Even the children joined in their hate for the fire nation.

The reason why he had stayed in this town was because it was a town independent of any of the nations and it also served as a safe ground to grow at a steady pace. This town had seen its fair share of passing fire nation soldiers. This was what stopped them from chasing him out of the town; fear of retaliation.

He suddenly had to tilt his head to the side to avoid an incoming stone aimed at his head. His hand flew up to the side of his face as he caught another one which was slightly more on target than the last one.

Looking down to the ground, he saw the now familiar sight of two children who had thrown the previous stones. He sighed, not even bothering to pay them attention as he continued his cloud gazing.

"If you have nothing to do, then go bother someone else. I'm not in the best mood right now." He said dismissively. Despite the fact the hadn't actually seen him firebend, there was still the fear that lingered which made him wonder how they even gathered the courage to antagonize him.

The two children hesitated before one of them began to lower his hand to the floor to pick another stone.

"Scram!" He yelled, now annoyed that they had disturbed his peaceful moment. They fled upon hearing the anger in his tone. As he watched them run away in fright, he just barely noticed a tiny, almost unnoticeable pillar of smoke far ahead on the sea.

His eyes narrowed as he stared at it.

'Fire navy ships?' He thought curiously. Fire nation soldiers usually passed through but they usually moved in small groups. It's abnormal for a fire navy of any size to be seen near the town, not to mention coming directly towards us like this one was.

'They won't be here for another day at least. That's enough time...' He thought.

The following night he was preparing for the arrival of the navy. He had been training for a long time and this was the perfect field to test his strength.

At this moment he was completely stocked with explosive tags and kunai. His sword was properly polished and sharpened and stored in his inventory.

"Where are you going so late at night?" The voice of Shen's wife called out from behind him.

"What I do with my time is none of your concern." He said as he made his way out. He was about to close the door when she began to speak.

"You know, I understand what's going on. I went through the same thing when Luo was your age. You feel like you need your own space and that you're your own being but sometimes it's better to have someone to talk t-" she was rudely interrupted by an irritated Sasuke.

"You have no idea what you're saying. I don't care for a pep talk from you or anyone else. Spare it for someone who actually needs it" he said as he walked out, closing the door before he paused.

"One last thing..." he started as he looked at her through the corner of his eyes.

"...don't try to be my mother." He said slamming the door shut.

An irritated Sasuke stood in a position hidden by the shadow of the many large rocks at the docks. He watched as a small fleet of wooden ships made their way to shore and let their anchors down.

'Fire nation don't use wood to manufacture their ships. What the hell's going on?' He thought cautiously.

He stayed in the shadows longer as blood red eyes stared into the night illuminated by the moonlight. He watched as a dark skinned brown haired man with a somewhat short goatee got off one of the wooden boats. His bushy hair was tied in a high warrior wolf tail.

'Well this is a surprise...' he mused internally.

He analyzed the standing male figure who, with the assistance of the other men who came off the boats, scouted the area.

'...Hakoda.' He thought with a slightly crazed smile on his face.
