I passed out from the pain of losing my mate, and when I awoke from my weakness, I found myself lying in a familiar bed. Ian's breath lingered on the pillow made of swan feathers. It was the smell of us.
Lola was kneeling by the bed. Her head lowered as she chanted a prayer. When she finally stopped praying and looked up, our eyes met, and Lola started crying.
"Oh, Miss Annie! You're finally awake!"
"I need some water. Can you get me a glass of water?" My throat was so dry that every word I said stung.
"Of course, I'll get you some water now!" Lola stood up in a hurry, her hands trembling as she handed me the glass.
"King Ian has ordered someone to inform him immediately if you wake up!" Lola said, "Please excuse me for a moment!"
"Lola!" I reached out to hold her. "Ian! No, the King. Has the King told you anything else about me?"
