Watching as the ball slowly fall onto the ground, Haruto let out a sigh of relief as he felt a bit worried since he tried his best to adjust the best despite the awkward spot.
"Phew, that was a clos—Ah..."
"Oops."
Haruto suddenly spoke out loud as he was walking backwards to catch his balance after landing. As he was walking backwards, he felt his foot hit against something causing him to lose his balance once again.
As Hinata was still on the ground after diving for the ball, his legs stuck out, making Haruto trip and gradually fall down onto his back. But as he was falling down he used his hands to catch the floor beneath him and used it to do a small backflip.
He crouched down after he landed and the people who watched the incident went silent.
"Umm…sorry, that was a really cool backflip..?"
"...Why are you even saying that as a question?"
Haruto had a blank look as he saw Hinata clapping his hands and the both of them stood up.
"Oi! Are the both of you alright?" Daichi yelled out as he saw the whole scene and went up to Haruto and Hinata to check if anything happened that needed attention.
They quickly said that they were fine and Daichi let out a relieved sigh and told them that they should be more careful and begin to line up. The two nodded their heads and followed along to his instructions.
After a brief moment, Karasuno began to shake hands with each of the members of Wakutani. Each of them had a polite expression as they said a few words but it was difficult to hide the bitter emotions they had.
"I need to work harder."
"Work harder?" Haruto tilted his head as he heard Hinata's words as they walked back to their bench.
"Yeah.. I wasn't able to beat Wakutani's number 1 in a head on battle..."
"Of course you didn't. You hardly did any sort of blocking when he was with you at the front and you mainly faced against the person that was in the middle when it came to attacking."
"You bastard! I didn't do much but I still tried to block him and I hit majority of the sets you gave me. Plus why did you even come into the conversation huuh!?"
"Oi, at least keep your voices down."
Haruto grabbed his stuff that was left on the bench and gave a few words before ignoring Kageyama and Hinata who were engaged in their 1vs1 fight.
Leaving the court since their match was done, Ukai said a few words before telling them that their next opponents were still playing against each other and they should use this time to get a bit of food in and rest.
"Either Aoba Johsai or Date Tech will be our next opponents right?"
"Yeah, but even with Date Tech's amazing defensive blocking, I think Aoba Johsai will most likely win since they are really balanced and compliment each other well."
Haruto leaned against the vending machine as he spoke to Hinata who was getting a snack and Kageyama who was nearby, opened up his pretzels and quietly listened to their conversation.
"They also have Oikawa as their setter."
"There's that too."
After getting some snacks, they decided to go up the stairs and sit by the seats to see the ongoing match that was happening between Aoba Johsai and Date Tech.
"I thought they stopped making these types of snacks now?"
"I just got lucky by finding it in a small store."
Kageyama peeked over Haruto's shoulder as he saw what Haruto brought out from his bag and looked at the brand since it was one he hadn't seen in a while.
"I found it at the…"
Haruto's voice trailed off as he reached the area Mahiru was at and he noticed that she was talking happily to a woman who had her back turned.
"Who's that?"
"I'm not too sure…"
The two guys who were beside him also noticed the unfamiliar person and felt curious since she seemed to be getting along with Mahiru and also Yachi who was beside her. As they got closer, Mahiru noticed Haruto and tapped the person beside her to turn around.
"Welcome back and congrats on winning again!"
"Hello."
"Eh…When did you even come…??"
Haruto's eyes widened in surprise when he saw his mother sitting at the stands and wondered who invited her. His eyes wandered to one person who could have done it and Mahiru just stuck out her tongue and smiled brightly after catching his gaze.
"Is she your older sister?"
"I thought you said that Akane was your only sibling."
Kageyama and Hinata spoke quietly behind Haruto and asked since despite the sharp atmosphere she had, she bore a very close resemblance to Haruto.
"Ahem.. she's actually my mother."
""Your mother??""
Their eyes widened and their voice raised a bit since she looked young and didn't look that old.
"Thank you for the compliment."
"A-Ah no problem! My name is Hinata and I'm a friend of Haruto."
"My name is Kageyama and it's the same for me too…"
The two stiffly introduced themselves and Haruto placed his palm on his face as he couldn't look at the awkward stances they were putting on.
They sat down and Haruto began to ask his mother some things since he was surprised to see her here. As he was talking, Yui began to hand out jelly pouches that she brought to the players at Karasuno as she noticed them gradually sit around their area.
The players were gracious and thanked her with Yui replying back in her usual blank tone.
"She looks scary but is actually a kind person…"
"It's pretty strange too since I thought Haruto's mother would be more…lively like he is."
After speaking with Yui for a bit, Kageyama drank the jelly pouch that he was given and tried to think of other similarities Haruto had with his mother.
Having the commotion of meeting Yui subside, the people by the seats peaked over the rails as they closely watched the match that would determine their next opponent.
"Cover! Cover!"
"Nice! Kogane use it."
"Yes, leave it to me!"
On Date Tech's side a tall player who had blonde hair and a black fringe yelled out and got under the ball to give a set to his left side.
"Futakuchi-senpai, it's all yours now!!"
Kogane who looked to be a new setter on Date Tech, felt the ball enter his fingers and gave a high set to his left side. Haruto who was watching felt his lips twitch as he saw just how high of a set he gave to the left side.
'What the hell, the ball is too high?!'
Futakuchi yelled out in his head as he saw the really high toss that was given to him and didn't know what he'd do with it.
Deciding to just run his normal approach, he jumped up to hit the ball but it got caught onto the tape of the net and fell back onto their side.
"Shit, that was my bad."
"Don't worry you'll get the next one senpai!!"
Kogane spoke loudly as he tried to be positive after losing the point to Aoba Johsai.
"Kogane, t-toss the ball a bit lower alright…"
"A bit lower? I got it!"
"Ah but not too low, okay..."
"Not too low? I understand!"
"Do you really..?"
Futaguchi felt sweat break out from the top of his forehead as he tried his best to trust that Kogane understood what he meant.
"Date Tech's setter is an interesting player.." Haruto quickly spoke and the people around him nodded their heads as they had thought the same thing.
"But he's also pretty tall."
"Their defense will grow even more if they add him to their blocking sequence."
Kageyama added his thoughts to Haruto's observation and they continued to watch to see if they could see the improved wall Date Tech has made.
"Touch! Oikawa the ball is going towards you!"
"Yeah, I got it! Watacchi get second."
Oikawa called out as he passed the ball high and their libero jumped from the attack line attempting to set the second ball given to him. In the air, he tossed the ball to the right side where Oikawa was.
'One, two and… three.'
Haruto saw how two of the blockers were fast to react to the set that was being given to Oikawa, and gradually that two man block turned into three with the addition of another person.
"Urk." Oikawa scrunched his face as he saw how his cross was shut down by the addition of the other person who quickly made it into a triple block.
"It's refreshing to see him get blocked."
"I get what you mean."
"You bastards, I can still hear you guys even if I'm up here." Oikawa felt his eyes twitch when he heard Iwaizumi's words and grumbled under his breath.
'Those blocks are going to be a pain in the ass.' Oikawa thought as he walked up to the net and waited for Date Tech to serve.
'But that's a setter's job to help his hitter get past those blocks.'
Looking at his side, Oikwaw held up a hand signal to let his teammates know the next play he plans to do.
