Capítulo 8: Choosing a class
The family turned quiet when they heard sounds of animals going wild and people screaming from the outside.
The three girls faces became a bit pale on the face while Karl remained stoic and serious. He walked up to his mother and sisters and hugged them in his arms and they reciprocated it.
"Take a deep breath and calm down. Deep breath in... and out. Think happy thoughts ok? We'll go through this together." Karl said gently, trying to calm the rising fear from the three.
With Karl's comforting hug and words, Sophie, Lucy and Jannah managed to calm down their fear, which is the normal thing to have in this kind of situation.
Seeing this made Karl smile, "Good."
He released his hug and took a step back then became serious again as he looked at the screen, indicating him to choose his class.
"One step at a time. First let's solve this problem. Have any idea on what should we choose?"
Sophie looked at Jannah and asked, "Honey, do you know why we need this class to learn how to use mana?"
Jannah said, "Well in the novels I read, there are certain ways on how people control mana. For example, there are different ways on how you circulate mana in your body to become stronger or how there are different techniques and the principles behind it. It's like..."
"Like how there are different types of fields and how they work?" Lucy asked.
Jannah nodded, "Exactly. So basically, with this class, we will have a head start because we don't need to try to know and learn mana and make a new class from scratch, which will take a lot of time."
"Which we don't have." All four of them said at the same time.
"But..." Jannah started speaking again that made the other three focus back on her.
"In order to give us this class, then they must give us knowledge itself. And there's really only one way they could do it that we will immediately learn it."
Sophie frowned, "To instill it directly into our minds."
Karl said seriously, "So we either choose to get a head start but with the risk of having our minds altered, or choose nothing but be behind and lose a lot of time learning this mana."
They all thought for a moment until Lucy asked them all.
"What choice of classes did you guys get? Here's mine." Lucy waved her hands towards the three.
"...we can't see it." the three spoke after some time, which made them understand something important .
"It looks like the screen can't be shown to others." Lucy said out lout and the others nodded.
Jannah suddenly thought of something as she waved her hands towards the others and said, "System, allow Sophie Rein, Lucy Rein, and Karl Rein to see my screen."
The three were confused at her actions but that soon turned to surprises as they saw a screen similar to them that shows.

3. Ice Empress
4. Reality Maker
[80 seconds remaining.]
[None]
"Ohh? How did you know that was gonna work Honey?" Sophie asked.
Jannah put on her proud pose as she said, "Hehe, I just tried what I usually read on novels. Told you guys reading has it's own benefits."
Sophie, Lucy and Karl did the same and their own screen is now visible to each other.
Sophie's screen:

1. Sage of Heaven
2. Formation Master
3. Spirit Summoner
4. Greatest Chef
Lucy's screen:
[Choose your class.]
1. Maiden of Light
2. Dryad of Nature
3. Sea queen
4. Songbird
When the girls looked at Karl's screen, they immediately noticed the ominous sounding class in the very top of the list.
Jannah asked doubtfully, "What's with that scary class? Devil? Really?"
Karl shrugged his shoulders, "Maybe it's because the class has a connection with me since I do rely on my body most of the time. In fact, now that I see it, every choices given to us is somehow connected to our expertise or such."
They all nodded and Lucy asked, "So what do we choose? A class or none?"
Karl looked at them, "I suggest we choose none."
Sophie asked him, "Can you tell me why sweetie?"
"I don't trust the people behind this yet and I don't like the idea of having my own path decided by others. But the main reason is, there's this nagging feeling in me that says I, no, we would lose a massive opportunity if we decide to pick a class."
The girls looked serious after hearing Karl's words. They all took Karl's words seriously, especially the last part since they knew how accurate Karl's intuition in this kind of things.
All the girls looked resolute and they all said simultaneously, "We'll pick none."
Karl said, "Are you sure about this? Remember, this choice concerns our life. Don't choose me just because I said so."
Lucy said to Karl, "Karl, we know how accurate your intuition is in these kind of things. Instead of trying to think for a long time, which we are running out, it's just better to rely on your intuition that has saved us for like, so many times."
Jannah said smugly, "Besides, we all have our own pride big bro. Who would want to follow someone else's path when we always have made our own?"
Sophie smiled and spoke as well, "If we die because of our arrogance, then so be it. I would willingly die together with all of you, but no matter the consequences..."
All of them finished at the same time, "The Rein family will always carve their own path."
They smiled and all clicked "None" at the same time.
All of them got a confirmation message, which they all replied "Yes".
[Because you didn't pick any class, you will have a hard time learning how to use mana from scratch.]
[But still, in order to help out, we will give you the most basic knowledge on how to train using mana. The rest will be up to you.]
Their eyebrows rose up when they read the message from the screen.
"Well, at least we're not completely clueless." Karl couldn't help but remark.
[For the sake of convenience, this screen in front of you will be called system. It has some of the common functions that some of you are familiar with and this will be your main guide in surviving this apocalypse. The more you interact with new things that will happen in the Apocalypse, the more information the system will gave you.]
[That's why the most important thing for you to do right now is to explore your world and discover more things.]

After that last message, the screen disappeared.
The family took a moment to digest all the information they gained from the so called system.
Jannah said to her mother and siblings, "Mom, sis, big bro, try saying status. This usually shows the status of our body, how strong are we etc. etc."
The three were quite surprised as they all said, "Ohh? Well let's try it then. Status."
Right in front of Karl, a screen appeared.
[Karl Rein]
Class: None
Progress: 1st stage (0%)
The same screen also appeared on the three girls, the only difference is the names on top of it.
Jannah exclaimed, "Ohh it's quite different than what I imagined it to be."
Karl asked her, "What does it usually show in those novels?"
"The strength, health, amount of mana a person has, basically the more specific information. But it looks like this only gives a general view of what we have since it only shows our progress in... what I think is the stages in using mana."
Sophie, Lucy and Karl nodded at her words, understanding just a little more on how the system works.
At this time, Sophie spoke up, "Well then, let's check out the situation outside and find out what exactly is happening. We need more information. Also, we need to go to your aunt's place and see if she's ok."
All of them nodded to her words as Karl smiled inwardly, 'Its a good thing that they're fighting their fears.'
Sophie looked at Karl, "Sweetie can you lead us?"
Karl smiled at them, "With pleasure."
