Max was looking at the calendar on the wall that had the days crossed out with the day on the 30th circled multiple times.
"Only a few more days and I can get out of this shit hole of a country and finally be done with my tour of duty and get reassigned back home" max said to himself as he released a long sigh.
Max is only 19 years old and is at the end of his second year of his four year military contract in the special forces. When he was born, his mother soon passed after giving birth to him and his dad was a military drill instructor.
Even though his father was devastated when it happened he took his wife's last words to heart "John promise me that you will look after our baby boy, and find happiness for yourself after I am gone from this world". John looked at his wife with tears falling down his face and his hands gripping his wife's hand tight.
As John was looking at his wife holding their son max in her other arm and smiling at him, he gave a small smile. "Marie I promise you I will do as you ask of me but I will still forever hold you in my heart for all eternity". When John said these words he came close and kissed his wife while she started to cry and nodded her head slowly. John stayed with his wife for her last moments before taking their son and saying goodbye.
Ten years have gone by since that day as Max was celebrating his 10th birthday. "Son I have a little surprise for you today" John said with a grin on his face. "What is it dad it better not be a stuffed animal like last year since that stuff is for girls" Max looked at his father with a pout on his face.
John looked at his son with a small smile as he scratched the back of his head awkwardly. [Damn why do kids have to grow up so fast that they don't even enjoy the little things anymore but I'm sure he will like my surprise.] John thought to himself inwardly laughing to himself.
John went over to his son "Max I got something better this time don't worry, now I want you to wear this blindfold and stand over here". As John was pulling his son over near the front door after putting the blindfold on him he told his son to wait as he went out the front door and closed it.
After a couple minutes of waiting Max heard the front door open again but there was the sound of a couple more foot steps then there should be.
"Alright son go ahead and take your blindfold off".
When Max removed his blindfold he couldn't utter a word as his mouth was hung agape, what stood in front of him next to his father was a beautiful women with long black hair to her hips and blue eyes with a voluptuous body and next to her was a young girl that looked to be about a year or two younger then him with the same black hair and blue eyes as she was peeking shyly from the side of her mom.
"Happy birthday Max I want you to meet your new mother and little sister"said John as if gloating at his own success at surprising his son. "Huh" was all that came out of Max's mouth when he heard his dad.
Seven years later after Max met his new mom Lisandra and his little sister Sarah he was at his high school graduation receiving his diploma as he thinks about his earlier years of life before he has to head off to boot camp in the military in a few weeks.
At first when he met his new mom and little sister he was shocked and didn't know what to say or do, but after a year of living together he adapted to it pretty quickly and started to get close to them especially his new sister since she was only a month younger which meant they were in the same grade, plus she was tomboyish because of her mother so she always wanted play with the boys even though she is a little shy sometimes, and they had similar interests since both of their parents were in the military so they enjoyed doing martial arts, playing action games, and of course doing military training with their parents on the side even though it was tough.
After a couple more years of doing the things he enjoyed with his family and getting top marks in middle school with him in first place and his sister right behind him in second they both decided on entering Richard Tech High school which is not only one of the top schools in the country but is also connected to the military.
It was always both of their dreams to follow their parents footsteps and enter into the military. Saying they were excited was an understatement since they were one step closer to reaching their dream.
After the first couple of years in high school it was going great until certain undesirables started to harass Sarah since she was blooming into a beautiful flower, even Max would get distracted sometimes by it which made Sarah silently happy on the side when she see's it happen. This wasn't the first time this has happened but since not only was Max strong and always protected her when he was around, Sarah was also not weak either because of all the training her parents put her through to protect herself from what her mother calls "annoying flies" so it was never a problem before. Realizing on the first day after entering one of the top high schools in the country that there will be arrogant pricks who think the world revolves around them and that all women are to their choosing, both Max and Sarah just decided that if she rejects them and they don't stop pestering her then they'll just lure them into a secluded area of the school where there are no cameras or people and just beat them till they tell her they give up which most of the time they can't since they are to busy crying or screaming from all the pain/broken bones they receive. It didn't take long for all the flies to go away and since most of the girls were either to nervous to ask Max out or he just politely refused them when they did ask him out for a date, to which the girls stopped pestering him thinking he might hate them if they continued so he didn't have to worry about it to much.
The first two years of school was mostly spent on academics and building a body foundation to be prepared for when they leave high school and join the military. While the last two years of high school were more oriented on what you want to specialize in such as engineering, science technology, etc in the military. This is on top of learning different military tactics and higher academics for a chance to become an officer after you get out of boot camp which most students including Max and Sarah are aiming for because of the higher pay and authority they'll have so they won't be just grunts at the bottom of the barrel.
Since both of them did get in the top 10 of the school for their academics and training they were eligible to become officers after they finished boot camp, much to the happiness of their parents who were proud of them which leads to Max's graduation.
Now after going through high school and heading into boot camp for 3 months after having a emotional goodbye said to his parents and his sister Sarah, since she is going to a different boot camp specialized in her job profession much to her sadness.
The first word he would use describing boot camp is "Hell". Not only do they train you to the point were your body is basically being torn down and rebuilt even with the physical training from high school but they also mess with your mind/emotions to help build a mindset that is almost unbreakable if you're sent out to the battlefield on top of learning different weapons, survival tactics and loads of other things needed on the field.
With Max's skills he learned he had a high proficiency with firearms during fire range week at boot camp which lead him to earn the title of sharpshooter. Which latter lead to the higher ups switching his job into the special forces since he also showed great reflexes and leadership skills much to the dissatisfaction of Max since he wanted to go into the engineering department of the military since he enjoyed building things but what can he do he already signed a contract to serve for four years. This lead to him being sent for special forces training for additional 3 months and when he got done with that he had been sent directly overseas for a tour of duty since tensions were high and war was starting to break out.
After a year and half and doing two tours of duty overseas he was finally a couple days away to being reassigned back home, for what he doesn't know yet but doesn't care either since at least he will leave this shit hole. When Max was packing his bags to get ready for the flight back home there was a knock at the door.
"Come in" Max said, to which a soldier entered in his military uniform and instantly saluted. "Colonel Carter the Major General would like to speak with you before your flight back home". Max finished putting in last few things in his bag before looking back at the soldier and replying "Thanks Major, tell the Major General I'll be there in 10 minutes". The soldier nodded then saluted and left the room to give Max's reply back.
(A/N Max's last name is Carter since military usually go with rank then last name just so people don't get confused)
When Max finished getting the rest of his gear he started heading to the Major General's office. While walking down the halls all the soldiers were saluting Max with respect and some admiration while he just gave a slight nod as he continued on his way. The respect he was shown was not just cause he was ranked higher then them but because of all accolades he has received in the past year and a half he has been stationed here. Max has many merits but with a kill count confirmed at over 600 and with the rescue of civilians and friendly soldiers numbered also in the hundreds he is labeled as a war hero by his allies and a reaper of death by his enemies which lead him to rise in rank from just a lieutenant all the way to colonel.
When Max arrived at the Major General's office he knocked on the door and when he heard "Enter" Max opened the door then gave a salute and said "Colonel Carter reporting sir". The Major General just waved his hand and asked Max to take a seat while bringing out two glasses and a bottle of scotch from the cabinet and placed it on the desk while grabbing a couple of ice cubes from ice machine, placing it in the glasses and pouring the scotch and handing one to Max.
After they both took a sip of their drinks and a small sigh came from them they looked at each other and a small smile came to their faces. The Major General let out another sigh before speaking "This division is really going to miss their war hero but I can't say the same since this means less paperwork for me to have to handle because of your little excursions into enemy territory". The whole time the Major General had a smirk on his while Max just sighed since he hates being called a war hero even though he was just doing his job.
As they continued to sip their drinks the Major General stood up walked over to Max as he also stood up and stuck his hand out for hand shake which Max did the same. "Thanks for your service Max, not only have you defeated many of our enemies but also saved a lot of our soldiers in the process and for that I thank you and hope you enjoy the rest of your life since this is only the beginning of your career at 19 years old" said the Major General as he started to laugh. "Thanks Major Gen-".
"You don't have to call me that crap just call me Arnold" said Arnold as he put his hand up to stop Max from continuing his words. Max just sighed and said "Alright Arnold...thanks again and hopefully you take better care of yourself, it looks like you haven't slept for a day or two, do I need to contact your wife". By the time Max was finishing his statement he was already done shaking Arnold's hand and getting close to the door to leave the room.
Just when he was about to leave Arnold looked at him before yelling "And who's fault is that, giving me all this damn paperwork because of your act-". Before he could even finish Max was already out the door while Arnold was just grumbling about youngsters not respecting elders or superiors even though he had a small smile on his face.
Max just chuckled to himself while he made his way to the airstrip to ride on a C-130 that will be taking him and a few other soldiers back home. As he made his way to the plane there were a few soldiers waiting next to the cargo ramp that he recognized were some of the ones he saved. The soldiers he rescued just saluted and thanked him for saving their lives while Max gave a quick salute in return and continued getting on the plane.
About half a day later Max was getting off the C-130 while stretching his legs and back from sitting for almost the whole ride home just listening to some music and taking a nap. Max walked off the runway to a military vehicle that was waiting for him to take him home to his parent's house since he didn't have his own place.
When Max arrived in front of his driveway he thanked the soldier for the ride and headed to the front door. When he rung the doorbell he was a little anxious since he hasn't seen his family face to face in two years, sure he's talked to them on the phone but in person it's different. He heard a couple footsteps heading towards the door and when the door opened he could only look in surprise at the person standing there.
