Capítulo 19: Game Begins: Maritime Banquet 19

When Wen Nannan was drowsily asleep, she was woken up by Lu Huai. It was her turn to keep watch.

The rain was pouring down, and the cabin was leaking. Lu Huai was fast asleep, and his pillow was already quite wet.

Wen Nannan took a small bowl and prepared to catch the rainwater.

Suddenly, Lu Huai opened his eyes abruptly, and the muzzle of his gun was against Wen Nannan's forehead.

"Mr. Lu, calm down! I'm just catching the rain for you!" Wen Nannan was terrified.

Lu Huai loosened his grip. "No need to catch rainwater. Stay away from me when I'm resting."

Wen Nannan nodded quickly.

A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a clap of thunder.

"Help me, help me!"

The cries for help came closer and closer. Wen Nannan looked out the window and saw Sun Yanyan and a group of zombies.

"Damn, Sun Yanyan released the zombies from the container. They're coming for us!"

Lu Huai frowned. "Turn off the lights and go to the roof."

Wen Nannan reached for a stool, but Lu Huai lifted her up. He opened the skylight, climbed out, and jumped up to the eaves. Wen Nannan followed closely behind.

As soon as they closed the skylight, Sun Yanyan broke down the door. The zombies surrounded the cabin.

Sun Yanyan searched frantically inside. "Nan, Wen Nannan, I know you're still here. Come out, we're surrounded!"

"I was wrong. I shouldn't have hurt you! When I get back alive, I'll give you money. I'll give you all my savings!"

"Please, save me!"

Sun Yanyan screamed crazily in the room.

Wen Nannan wiped the rainwater off her face and pointed to her head. She would be a fool if she went down.

The flimsy door couldn't withstand the impact of the zombies and was about to collapse. Sun Yanyan escaped through the back door. The zombies were drawn to her, and soon her screams could be heard.

"Three minutes. Pack your things and go to higher ground immediately." Lu Huai jumped first and started packing his backpack.

Wen Nannan was quick too.

As they were about to leave, Wen Nannan remembered what Lu Huai had said earlier. "What about the important thing you mentioned?"

Lu Huai's face was in shadow. "The zombies have already taken care of it for me. It's not important anymore."

Wen Nannan felt a chill down her neck.

Suddenly, the searchlight on the ship lit up, and Lu Huai's dagger stabbed towards Wen Nannan.

She thought she was going to die, but she heard a thud behind her.

Lu Huai had killed a zombie that had approached silently.

Wen Nannan touched her neck, still in shock. "Thank you."

Lu Huai pulled the knife out of the zombie's neck and rinsed it in the rain. "If you don't hurry up, I won't save you again."

"Where's the wooden ladder you took earlier?"

"Oh, the ladder!"

Wen Nannan took out her flashlight and shone it around. "Follow me."

They were lucky that the rain masked most of the smells and sounds, so not all the zombies were chasing them.

Wen Nannan found the ladder she had dropped and saw the small hole again. The hole in the metal was getting bigger. During the day, she could only fit a little finger through it, but now she can fit three fingers.

Roar!

Another zombie's howl came from behind. Lu Huai shot it twice. "What are you waiting for?"

"The hole the zombies made has gotten bigger."

Lu Huai took a look and picked up the wooden ladder. "Never mind that. Let's go up first."

The cargo ship had ten containers stacked on top of each other.

It was pitch black, and the shape of the container arrangement was not a regular trapezoid. Some had almost no place to climb.

For example, the one in front of them, which was three containers high, was the closest landing point for them to go up another level.

There was a two-meter gap between the two sides, and the wooden ladder couldn't reach that high.

"What now?"

Wen Nannan counted the containers under her feet. Six. They were already quite high.

"We have to go up." Lu Huai looked up. "There are too many threats around us. We're not high enough yet."

With that, Lu Huai wedged the wooden ladder to the opposite side.

"Be careful. I'm going to open the container on the other side."

"Ah?" Wen Nannan was taken aback. Before she could say anything, Lu Huai had already stepped onto the wooden ladder.

As soon as he opened the lock, zombies rushed out.

Lu Huai retreated to the original container as quickly as possible, put away the wooden ladder, and watched as the zombies fell down like dumplings.

Occasionally, one would climb onto the edge of the container, but Lu Huai would kick it down.

When all the zombies inside had come out, the two of them went over with the wooden ladder.

Wen Nannan finally understood what Lu Huai meant when she saw him adjusting the angle of the container door. He wanted to use the three container doors as stepping stones to climb up.

Lu Huai is agile but not very lucky. Every container he opened was filled with zombies.

After many hardships, the two finally succeeded in reaching the top container.

"Step back." Lu Huai took out his gun and slowly approached the container.

"Wait!" Wen Nannan stopped him.

"What's wrong?"

"Mr. Lu, your luck with opening containers doesn't seem to be very good. Should you bow to heaven and earth first?" Wen Nannan suggested sincerely.

Lu Huai choked and gave her a cold look. Then he took a step back. "You did it."

Look at her stinky mouth.

Wen Nannan took a deep breath and turned to Lu Huai. "Brother, you'll protect me, right?"

Lu Huai: "I'll cooperate with you."

Wen Nannan smiled bitterly-she shouldn't talk too much when she was picking up bargains.

Wen Nannan resignedly placed the wooden ladder next to her and then gently opened a small opening in the container.

There was no movement inside.

Lu Huai pointed his gun at the container door and showed Wen Nannan, "Open it wider."

Wen Nannan pulled it open, and the container door was fully opened. When she saw what was inside, Wen Nannan felt like she could hold her head up high. She raised an eyebrow at Lu Huai.

Her luck was still holding up. Inside were not zombies, but boxes of supplies.
