Instead of guiding the mana through the veins like one normally would I slowly pushed it toward my chest, Or more specifically my heart. It was an action that would make anyone pass out from shock while calling me a mad man.
Allowing mana to get any where near your heart was taboo for only one reason, That you would die soon after it entered.
'If this doesn't work I'll come back from the dead and haunt her' I narrowed my eyes and twisted my palm around looking at the sharp knife in my grasp.
I exhaled once more and slowly pushed the mana closer to my heart. A wave of intense unbearable heat washed over me like fire was coursing through my veins. The moment it touched my heart I felt a jolt, Something between pain and exhilaration. My heart seemed to seize as if struggling to continue beating as the mana infiltrated its chambers, pulsing wildly in sync with my body's frantic rhythm.
My grip on the knife tightened, the cool metal grounding me as I directed the mana from my heart outward shaping it and forcing it to bend to my will. It was a reckless method, insane really but this was the only way to break through the limits l'd lived under for so long. The mana felt as if it were tearing through me ripping away at my insides with every beat of my heart.
Ignoring the burn I pressed the knife to my skin, drawing a shallow line across my chest. The blade traced the first part of the crest, A symbol I learned on that fateful nigh and I winced as the knife cut deeper with the wound dripping crimson blood
With each stroke I directed the mana letting it seep through the incision and filling the lines of the crest with an intense glowing energy. I could almost feel it reshaping me from the inside out adjusting my very essence. This crest wasn't just a mark but a seal, a binding force that would tether the mana in my heart while preventing it from tearing me apart.
Pain traveled through every inch of my body sharper than anything l'd felt before. I'd been cut and mangled more times then I could count but nothing could compare to feeling as if my chest would explode at any second.
'Calm…' I grit my teeth as I finished the final major line that overlapped the others diagonally.
My breathing grew ragged and each inhale felt like I was breathing in ash. The mana pulsed with my heartbeat surging through the pathways l'd opened and reinforcing the crest's form. I gritted my teeth desperate not to lose control and pressed the knife down again carving smaller symbols within the larger shape focusing all my will on completing the ritual.
Finally with a trembling hand I drew the last stroke causing the energy around me to surge then collapsed inward. It like a massive weight bearing down on my chest and for a terrifying moment I thought l might die.
But just as quickly the pressure released leaving a strange almost serene calm in its wake.
The pain receded and my hands shook as I pressed a palm against the craved crest. I could feel my heart beating and with every pulse, mana was released into my body. It was an addictive feeling that made my lips tug upward as my breathing steadied.
"Elias" I muttered picturing that bastards face with a dark satisfaction.
"You won't be above me for long."
