Prior to President Isong's administration, Nigeria wasn't known for its military prowess amongst African nations.

It wasn't to say that the country's military was bad, to the contrary, the country had always had one of the top militaries on the continent. It was just that the country never really projected the true might of its Armed Forces.

Most of the previous administrations preferred to flex the country's diplomatic might.

The reason the country was called the 'big brother' on the continent was because it had a stable relationship with every country on the continent such that it was able to exert political capital for diplomatic purposes.
