I can’t sleep.

Watching my father in his dragon form, ready to attack, flying around us then landing for a while; he is waiting for mom to return, and there is a void in him that can’t be filled until she comes back.

It is killing him, not being able to be with her. But she told him that it was his job to be with us and to protect us. That was a painful choice that my mother had to make.

I close the curtains and toss around in bed; my body seems to be unease and I can’t close my eyes without getting images of flames and monsters. My heart is beating faster for quite some time now, and it only wears me out more.

A knock on my door puts me alert, I look towards it and feel a strange sense of peace; Seth.

“Come in,” I speak as I sit on the bed.

The door opens and I see his worried eyes lock on mine. “I can’t sleep feeling you like this.”

I sigh and shake my head. “Mating should not be this cruel, me and my worries don’t need to bother you.”
