The battlefield erupted in chaos around Luffy as he tore through Marineford, his body a blur of movement, twisting and contorting with an otherworldly fluidity. Gear 5 was unlike anything anyone had ever seen, and every time Luffy unleashed its power, it left both friend and foe staring in disbelief. His skin stretched and rippled like rubber, but with a sheen that reflected his mastery over haki. His white hair flickered with energy as his eyes darted across the battlefield, taking in everything with his advanced observation haki.
Luffy's path toward Ace seemed clear—until it wasn't.
"Straw Hat!"
The shout was filled with a cold, unfeeling authority. Luffy skidded to a halt, and the ground beneath him cracked from the sudden stop. Slowly, he turned his head to find one of the most dangerous forces on the battlefield standing in his way: Admiral Aokiji. The ice-wielding admiral stood with his arms crossed, his breath visible in the cold air surrounding him. He looked at Luffy through narrowed eyes, sizing him up.
"You're going to have to get through me if you want to reach Ace," Aokiji said flatly.
Luffy's jaw clenched. He knew Aokiji was powerful—one of the Marine's strongest fighters. Memories of their last encounter on the island of Long Ring Long Land flashed through his mind. Aokiji had nearly killed him, and back then, he had barely been able to put up a fight. But things were different now.
Without warning, Aokiji raised his hand. Ice began to form in the air around him, swirling like a winter storm. With a flick of his wrist, a massive wall of ice shot toward Luffy, expanding in all directions.
"I don't have time for this!" Luffy shouted, his voice echoing over the battlefield.
Luffy's arm stretched back, far behind him, and as it did, the air around his fist began to vibrate with power. His muscles bulged and shifted, coated in advanced armament haki, the blackened hue shimmering in the light. He launched his fist forward, and the sheer force of his punch collided with the ice wall. For a moment, it seemed like the ice might hold, but then a deafening crack split the air. The ice shattered into a thousand pieces, scattering across the battlefield in an explosion of frost.
Aokiji's eyes widened slightly. He hadn't expected such power. Before he could react, Luffy was already moving, his body stretching in a blur as he closed the distance between them in an instant. His fist, still crackling with the residual force of his attack, slammed toward Aokiji's chest.
But Aokiji wasn't an admiral for nothing. His body instantly turned to ice, and Luffy's fist passed right through him. The admiral reformed a few feet away, a faint smirk on his face.
"You've gotten faster, Straw Hat," Aokiji remarked, his voice still calm. "But speed isn't enough to—"
Before he could finish, Luffy disappeared again. This time, he appeared above Aokiji, his entire leg coated in blackened haki as it swung down with incredible force. The impact was like a thunderclap, and the ground beneath Aokiji cratered as Luffy's leg connected with his ice form. For a moment, Aokiji's ice faltered, cracks spreading through his frozen body.
But Aokiji wasn't done yet. His body reformed once more, and with a snap of his fingers, the air around them dropped several degrees. In an instant, the ground beneath Luffy's feet froze solid, creeping up his legs, threatening to immobilize him.
"Damn it!" Luffy cursed, his body already starting to freeze. But before the ice could fully trap him, he activated his advanced armament haki. The black energy coursed through his legs, and the ice shattered as easily as glass. Luffy flipped backward, landing several feet away, his breath visible in the freezing air.
Aokiji wasted no time. He slammed his hands into the ground, and massive spikes of ice erupted from the earth, shooting toward Luffy like a barrage of spears.
But Luffy's advanced observation haki kicked in, and in that split second, he saw the attack before it even happened. His body contorted in impossible ways, dodging the spikes with a fluidity that shouldn't have been possible. His limbs twisted and stretched, avoiding each attack as if he had known where they would land all along.
"That's not gonna work!" Luffy yelled, his voice filled with determination. His body expanded, his muscles bulging and warping as he prepared to unleash another powerful attack. His fist swelled to an enormous size, the air crackling around it with raw energy. "Gomu Gomu no… Kong Gun!"
His haki-infused fist shot forward like a cannonball, smashing through the icy battlefield and heading straight for Aokiji. The sheer force of the punch shattered the ground, sending chunks of ice flying in all directions.
But Aokiji was fast, and he leapt into the air, narrowly avoiding the blow. As he hovered above Luffy, he extended both hands outward, summoning a swirling blizzard that enveloped the battlefield. Ice and snow swirled in a violent storm, obscuring Luffy's vision.
Luffy's eyes darted around, trying to track Aokiji's movements through the storm. But his advanced observation haki wasn't just for close-quarters combat. It allowed him to sense his opponent's intent, their movements, even through the thickest haze.
"There!" Luffy shouted, his eyes locking onto a point in the swirling blizzard.
With a powerful leap, Luffy shot into the storm, his body twisting and bending as he rocketed toward Aokiji. His hands stretched out in front of him, haki-infused fingers ready to strike.
Aokiji barely had time to react before Luffy's attack landed. His fists slammed into the admiral with a force that cracked the very air, and for the first time, Aokiji's ice didn't immediately reform. He was thrown backward, crashing into the frozen ground below, a crater forming beneath him.
For a brief moment, the storm stopped, and the battlefield was silent.
Luffy landed a few feet away, his breath coming in heavy gasps. Gear 5 was powerful, but it was also draining, and the longer he used it, the more it took out of him.
Aokiji slowly stood up, brushing the ice and snow from his coat. He winced slightly, but his expression remained calm.
"You're stronger than before, Straw Hat," Aokiji said, his voice now tinged with a hint of respect. "But this war isn't over yet."
Luffy gritted his teeth. He didn't have time for this. Ace was waiting. But the Admirals… they weren't going to let him through easily.
With a final glance at Aokiji, Luffy turned his gaze toward the center of the battlefield.
"I'm coming, Ace."
