Back in my office, the team gathers around the table. We don’t have a vast amount of evidence to discuss. There’s just one thing we need to talk about.

The giant pile of clothing Zariah stumbled upon.

“How long have they been out there, spying on us?” Eli asks for all of us.

“Too d*mn long,” Kimber mutters.

“They can’t have been out there too long,” Dak says, rubbing his chin. “We would’ve seen them on more of our patrols, or more evidence of them—wouldn’t we have?”

I shake my head. “Not necessarily. That camp was so deep in the woods, we could’ve missed it. They weren’t on our lands. And if the wind was blowing the smoke from their fire the other direction… we might not have detected them.”

“What are we going to do now?” Joe asks.
