'Welcome to the System Host, would you like the full tutorial now or later?'

As I watched those words scroll across my vision I felt a chill go down my spine. I stared at the last set of words for a few seconds before the sounds of the forest going crazy brought me back to reality.

'Well I guess all this is real and I'm not walking back to the cabin until this mess calms down so I may as well climb a tree and see what this tutorial is.'

I climbed halfway up a strong, tall oak tree that was just a few feet away from me and sat on a branch and thought-

'I'll take the tutorial now.'

Then a bunch of words began scrolling across my vision.

'Welcome to the post Awakening System Tutorial. Think Status or System to continue….'

'Status' I thought, and then a screen with several rows of text appeared in the top left corner of my vision.

While I was looking over these words trying to take it all in more words began schilling across my vision.

'You're System Type is what you would consider a class. Not all individuals start with a system type and must find or learn one. You can have only one System Type and once you have one it cannot be changed. To gain particles kill other beings and absorb their cores, learn an absorption method to absorb particles from the atmosphere either actively or passively, or eat the meat of a being with a particle core. For Status Points one point is the average for adults on your world. Constitution determines both your innate defensive ability and gives 25 health per point. Intellect determines both your cognitive abilities and allows your mind to hold 25 mana per point. Abilities are things innate to you that you must meet certain requirements and/or to use ability points to level up. Skills are things you learn that affect the outside world such as "magic" that level up similarly to abilities. Some skills and abilities are restricted by System type. For more details about a skill or ability focus on it and think "details". To bring up a specific portion of your status screen think "Status Points", "Abilities" or "Skills". Earn points by leveling up, and level up by absorbing the new particles around you, killing other entities, and in some cases eating other entities. Other tutorials may be activated later due to specific actions from the host. This is the end of the tutorial.'

'I need to decide what to call these particles. I think I'll call them Ethereal for now.'

Once I decided that the word particles in my Status Screen changed to Ethereal.

'Everything seemed pretty self explanatory, at least for now, but I do want more details about the shapeshifte ability.'

After thinking that I focused on my shapeshifte ability and thought 'details'.

'Shapeshift Lvl 1: Shapeshift into any creature that you have killed and absorbed enough of their heart essence. By shapeshifting you take on that creatures form, as well as it's strengths and weaknesses and will also gain that creatures skills and abilities and lose your non compatible skills and abilities for the duration of your time in the form. By having this ability you gain the chance to learn creatures skills and abilities to use while in your human form from absorbing blood essences. Absorbing enough of a creatures blood essence after you have gained their form may allow you to evolve that form to the next rank. Level up this ability to gain more shapeshifts per day, longer duration of shapeshifts, higher rank creature form shapeshifts, and partial shape shifts. This data will not appear again.

'Interesting. I guess I have a to do list now. Get back to the Cabin and get some supplies and armaments, get to town and see if my friends are alright, and hunt along the way to try and get some of these forms. After all, I do live 5 miles from town so I will have a decent amount of time and distance to try and hunt something and unless everyone has gone crazy in that small town everyone should be alright at least.'

Sitting on the tree branch a watched the sky and listened to the cacophony of the animal sounds filling the forest around me. About half an hour later the blood color started leaving the sky and the noise of the creatures started to quite down. The bluer the sky got the more calm the forest sounded and once it was a deep purple color I decided it was time for me to make my move.

'Time to head back to the Cabin to grab the few things I'll want and need. Thankfully I never leave without my bow so I at least have that to defend me if anything decides I look like a tasty meal.'
