When the king finally broke the silence, his voice sounded rough and hoarse. "I have to say that it's quite interesting how you don't resemble your father at all. And yet, somehow, you managed to inherit his disobedience. Not the best quality in the family tree." The king's words had the effect of Jovana being dropped into freezing cold water.

Jovana felt the color draining from her face, and she struggled to get some air in without gasping. 'What does he mean by that? Is this a trap? Are we doomed?' she mused silently, and as her panic grew, Jovana felt Caspian's hand squeezing hers under the table.

That simple, friendly contact helped unfreeze her brain. 'I don't know what is going on, but I need to stay calm to keep control. Caspian said that whatever happens, he won't let anyone hurt or imprison me. The king just wants to mess with my head,' Jovana chanted in her mind as she took a deep breath to calm down.
