As they walked through the forest Ethan observed his surroundings very closely, he now had the four women and the kid he had to protect. Since Gary still hadn't helped him become a Pokémon trainer he had to make sure to keep them alive. While they walked Gary told him more about Pokémon and some of the abilities that they possessed.
'It's amazing that such a small object allows them to catch and command these beasts. Gary said that his grandfather would give me that magical item called a Pokédex which will give me information about Pokémon and what it takes to be a trainer.'
"Hey Ethan relax, with me and my Pokémon around you have nothing to worry about. Viridian Forest isn't really that scary of a place, as long as you don't bother any Pokémon the only thing we have to worry about is Beedrill. They are extremely territorial and have been known to kill prey and bring it back to their nest."
When the four women heard Gary's comment they quickly grabbed ahold of him.
"My fans don't worry, I won't let anything happen to any of you.'
Ethan sighed and shook his head, 'Father you were right, men are so stupid. Why would he burden himself by traveling with weak women?'
He suddenly heard the bushes move, out of the corner of his eye he saw a sword slashing down towards his left side.
After quickly activating his body enhancement he used the dagger that he already had out and swung to intercept the blade. He wasn't surprised when the sword was cleanly cut in two as soon as it made contact with the dagger. Back in his world, this was usually the case, he had simply used body enhancement as a safety percussion.
Ethan quickly swiped again cutting the sword even smaller, he had seen several people use a broken sword. Though he doubted that someone with such an obvious attack would be able to do much he still wanted to make sure.
He stepped forward and put his knife on the strange kid's throat, "Who are you and why did you attack me?"
The kid didn't say anything instead he fell to his knees with a look of disbelief as he looked at his sword, "It can't be, I the great Samurai have been beaten."
Suddenly the armored kid stood up and looked at him with sparkling eyes, "As expected of a trainer from Pallet Town. You have won the battle but you haven't yet won the war, I challenge you to a Pokémon battle."
Ethan prepared to slice the kid's throat as the kid brought something out. He was surprised to see that the kid carried a Pokéball.
'Looks like it's true, this new method of becoming a Beast Tamer truly is widespread.'
"Umm Ethan, is he a friend of yours?"
One of the red-haired girls pointed at both him and the so-called Samurai, "They must be, when have you ever seen anyone else wear armor."
Ethan shook his head and brought down his dagger, "No this is the first time we meet, he says that he wants to battle the Pokémon trainer from Pallet Town."
Gary stepped forward with a big smile on his face, "Is that so, then I accept your challenge."
Without looking away from Ethan the kid answered back to Gary, "Who's talking to you? I want to battle him. With such skills, there is no doubt in my mind that I will learn a lot if I battle him."
'The hell are you doing kid? I don't want any trouble with the person who's helping me out. Though it seems like you can help, Gary has an important and powerful relative.'
He shook his head and pointed at Gary, "He's the one from Pallet Town, we found each other in the forest after the explosion. I'm not a Pokémon trainer yet so if you want to learn then he's the one you should learn from."
Samurai looked into his eyes and after a few seconds he sighed, "That's a pity, then very well, I would like to battle you."
Gary was clearly angry at the blunt treatment of Samurai but he calmed down and brought out a Pokéball. "I'll show you the great trainer that I am."
'Interesting with this I'll be able to see the strength of Gray and his Pokémon. Now that I think about it I get to see what two Beast Tamers battling each other looks like. This is a very rare occasion in my old world.
They followed Samurai to an open meadow, meanwhile, he climbed a nearby tree. He didn't want to miss anything but at the same time, he didn't feel safe being too close to the fighting beasts. After the amount of destruction that came from the king fish when it suddenly turned into a sea serpent, he knew that he had to be extra careful.
Ethan had wanted to ask Gary about the light and how one beast could turn into another, but Gary knew his beasts very well. He couldn't risk getting found out that it was his fault that they had the accident.
'I need to make sure to stop calling them beasts and instead call them what the people from this world call them.'
"Gary, Gary, he's our man. If he can't do it, no one can! Go...Gary!"
He looked at where the yelling was coming from and he found that the group of women had pulled out some odd balls of fluff and began cheering for Gary.
Both Samurai and Gary threw their Pokéballs.
"Pinser assume battle mode"
"Nidoran I choose you!"
White flashes of light came out of the Pokéballs and the next thing he knew a large brown insect Pokémon stood on Samurai's side. It had two large pincers on its head which were frightening but since they were on top of its head it seemed pretty easy to avoid.
On Gray's side, there was a Pokémon which he recognized, it was the same species that attacked him the other day.
"Nidoran use poison stab"
As the small Pokémon ran towards the large bug, it's purple horn turned a darker shade and it seemed to be secreting poison.
"Pinsir dodge, and use tackle."
Just as the purple Pokémon was about to make contact Pinsir jumped to the side and tried ramming itself into Nidoran.
"Nidoran dodge it"
The purple Pokémon suddenly increased its speed and Pinsir ended up hitting nothing.
'Huh, what the hell is this, why are they telling each other what move they will use next? Is this really what being a Pokémon trainer is like? No matter how strong the Pokémon are if you're enemy knows what you are going to do then it's worth nothing . Shouldn't they trust their Pokémon more? Don't they train their Pokémon so that the Pokémon can fight on their own?'
Samurai and Gary continued fighting in the end Nidoran beat Pinsir and a green cocoon which apparently was a Pokémon called Metapod.
Once they had finished their little "Challenge" they called back their Pokémon and started talking to each other.
Ethan jumped down and walked towards them, 'I guess that in their "challenges" they stop fighting when the Pokémon can't take anymore. It also seemed that trainers don't fight either instead they just yell out their next move. Tch so inefficient, I should have guessed though, Gary and this Samurai guy are extremely weak. Looks like this world will give me the ability to control beasts but I have to do things my own way. Only then can I expect to make use of the Pokémon without getting them and more importantly, myself, killed.'
"Don't worry I have some Antidote in my cabin. I take it that you guys are trying to go to Pewter City like the other trainer that I battled. Did you guys lose yourself after the explosion? You do know that you're heading back to Viridian City right?"
Gary nodded, "We suffered an accident and I broke my Pokédex so we wanted to return to Viridian City since we figured that we were closer to it."
Samurai laughed and shook his head, "You are actually closer to Pewter City, the exit to the forest is about 4 days away on the other hand you'll have to walk for about 7 days back to Viridian City."
Gary, Ethan, and the three girls looked at the brown-haired girl wearing the tiger stripes. She gave them a nervous smile, "Sorry it's just that the trees all look the same."
The armored kid led them back to the trail, "I will accompany you to the edge of the forest."
Ethan quickly accepted, though they were terrible trainers he had to admit that the Pokémon the kid possessed would come in handy if they were attacked.
