Definitely not what I was expecting. The story has a darker take on the series, not to the point of being grimdark but it definitely has a more practical approach with some more sinister elements and some expanded background story. Anyone who starts the story should probably already know from the title that it is set in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic universe. To anyone this is a turn-off for, clearly it isn't for you. Though do note, even to those who don't mind that, that it isn't exactly the same since in this version the ponies are anthropomorphic. Wasn't an issue for me since if anything them being more humanoid made it easier to relate to on some level, but some might prefer it to stick to canon ponies. The world and its history are much darker than the show presents. Though that isn't necessarily saying a lot since in the show the worse that happens is a few scrapes and dust. This handles it more realistically in that regard since there is actual possibility of death and other dangers. For example there is something infecting the world in the background called "the Rot" or "the Filth" which corrupts the land and anyone caught in it, making them monsters. It will even drive them to cannibalism for some zombie vibes. The Filth is mostly contained and the wider public does not know about it. The Princesses work to ensure the public can enjoy their relatively carefree lives without knowing the kind of dangers that they're being protected from. Part of that projection is a group of Rune Knights which are one of the few select groups that know about the darker side of their world and are the first line of defense fighting it, often to their own demise. In hindsight, it actually reminds me a bit of the Blight from Dragon Age with the Rune Knights being the Grey Wardens. The MC dedicates his interest mostly into forging and crafting runic artifacts. From what I've gathered most of his runes come from his knowledge of other fictional worlds like Warhammer Dwarven runes or Asgardian Norse runes. He does hang out with some of the MLP cast though, be it in an intimate setting or just as friends, so its not like he spends all his time crafting. The story expands the lore and background of magic and other such things, making it not a 1-1 perfect replica of the shows setting but still follows it inline enough to be recognizable. Some may not not like the deviations but since I'm not exactly knowledgeable of the canon story anyway none of this bothered me. Some bits here and there could be a tad confusing at times (like I'm still not 100% sure what exactly the "Nightmare personas" are supposed to be, or rather why they exist) but for the most part I could follow it along rather well and the author has done a good job of making the story interesting. To sum it up the grammar is well done and the story interesting and enjoyable. Plus at time of writing this it has over 60+ chapters, with still regular updates. That is already well beyond what the vast majority of postings on this site get. Most struggle to take off past 10 chapters before being dropped dead. This has been quite a surprising find for me and I look forward to seeing how far it goes.

Have really enjoyed reading this story. At the start was a little put off by it being a mlp story and not knowing much about mlp but still gave it a shot and found it enjoyable to read. Would recommend for others to give it a try.

To be completely honest, it's 100 times better than what i expected, like, good work man. I didn't know what to expect from a mlp fanfic without a description, but you actually made me read 61 chapters of a my little pony fanfic. Honestly impressive, keep it up👍

"grandmaster class" you do realize that no one in the mlp universe says stuff like that right? I just cant read this with the smith stuff getting "classes" for all that he makes. and Pinkie pie doesnt do that, in the show she makes a party JUST AFTER SEEING twilight but doesnt for the mc????
