7.36% Rise of House Cason / Chapter 7: Getting Bored

Capítulo 7: Getting Bored

The rest of the night went by fast. After the feast Art made his way towards the Gryffindor's dormitories, which where located in one of the towers. After learning the password for the portrait, he settled in with his roommates, which happened to be Fred and George. Art smiled painfully as he could tell that his year would be interesting with these two.

Classes started the next day and Art had a hard time making it on time because of all the staircases and hallways. Most of the first classes were nothing but taking notes but in Transfiguration, Professor McGonanagal turned her desk into a pig and back. Art was excited and took out his wand excited to turn his match into a needle. At first he didn't succeed but after another attempt his match turned into a silver needle. McGonagall rewarded him with 10 points and asked him to change it back. Concentrating hard, Art waved his wand and the needle turned back into a matchstick.

"Impressive Mrs. Cason. Take another 10 points." she gave him a rare smile before walking around the class.

Taking down some more notes, Art tried to do bigger things but failed. His Defence Against the Dark Arts class was a let down as Professor Quirell was an idiot. He left the class disappointed. Charms was very educational though, Professor Flitwick was a short man who had goblin blood in him. He was a gifted wizard and was once the international duelist champion. Art easily performed all spells that Flitwick asked, earning his praise. Fred and George shot him dirty looks as all the teachers liked him.

The three of them made their way down to the dungeons for potions class with Professor Snape. Fred and George warned Art that he was biased towards Slytherin. Art didn't mind it and took his seat in the dimly lit room. Soon Professor Snape came in with his robes billowing behind him.

"No wands needed." he said quietly but everyone was still able to hear him. "This is potions class, I can teach you to bottle fame, brew glory, even stop death… not that any of you will have the skills to do any of that."

The class was dead silent as all eyes followed Snape.

"Weasley!" he said suddenly. "What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"

The twins looked at each other and before Fred answered, "I don't know, sir."

"Tut, tut. Looks like the Weasley's are getting worse by the year." he sneered.

Fred and George both clenched their fists and glared at him.

"Cason! Where would you look if I told you to find me a bezoar?" he asked, glowering over Art.

Art looked at him without fear. "Stomach of a goat, sir." he answered calmly.

Snape stared at him for a second before saying, "Looks like someone decided to open a book before coming here." he shot a look towards the Weasleys.

"What is the difference between monkshood and wolfsbane?"

"Are you asking me sir?" Art asked him.

"Does it look like I am talking to someone else?" Snape sneered, his black eyes narrowing at Art.

Ignoring the jab, Art answered, "They are the same sir."

The dungeon was silent as Art and Snape stared down at each other.

"What are you waiting for? Why aren't you writing this down?" he snarled before walking to the front of the class.

Art took out his quill and parchment and wrote down what he already knew. The class continued as they started to brew a potion to cure simple boils. They were broken into pairs. Art was paired up with a pale girl from Slytherin named Elinore. He successfully brewed his potion and patiently guided her with her own. Fred and George ended up screwing up their potion, getting a nasty scolding from Snape.

The class ended with Fred and George's face dark, muttering names at Snape as they left.

Days at Hogwarts continued and Art was soon known to all students and teachers as being a genius. Even Snape couldn't find fault with his potions but he never gave him points like the other professors. They had a broom riding lesson and Madam Hooch commented that Art, Fred and George were gifted flyers, along with Cedric Diggory from Hufflepuff.

Classes continued and soon the end of October came around. The Great Hall was decorated with pumpkins and lots of decorations. Soon a storm of owls came down with letters from students' families. A large gyrfalcon came down and landed in front of Art with a package in his talons. Giving Gray some food he removed the letter from his leg and the package before taking off.

In the letter his parents asked him about school and how he was doing. They also wished him a happy birthday. Art opened the package and saw a golden pocket watch. It was Tim's grandfather's watch and something he had for generations. Art smiled and placed the watch gently in his pocket.

With his birthday passed and gone, Art focused on his homework. He had began to grow bored in class, able to cast most spells with using his wand. He wanted to transfigure larger objects but McGonagall wouldn't let him.

The twins caused all kinds of mischief, usually dragging Art with them. They had found a few secret corridors and passageways in the castle. Mr. Filch, the caretaker, chased them around constantly. Mrs. Norris was a pain to Fred and George but Art was able to befriend her and get them to leave them alone the majority of the time.

Soon the end of November came and Art was continued to get bored with class. He started to practice nonverbal spells in class instead to challenge himself. At first teachers were puzzled on why their star student was not doing work in class until McGonogall asked Art what he was doing. When he told her she was shocked and looked at Art like he was crazy.

In the teachers staff room…

"Did you find out why the boy started to fool around in class Minerva?" Professor Flitwick asked, upset that his star student was no longer participating in class.

The other teachers waited for Minerva to answer, including Professor Dumbledore was sitting at the end of the table, his eyes sparkling behind his half-moon spectacles.

"He is not fooling around." she said, letting out a sigh. "He finds our classes not challenging enough so he is practicing nonverbal spellcasting."

The other teachers looked at her incredulously. Nonverbal spellcasting was high level magic that most wizards and witches couldn't master in their lifetime.

"Arrogant brat." Snape said, a sneer on his face.

Dumbledore ignored his comment and slowly stroked his beard. "Has he been successful?" he asked quietly.

MInerva nodded. "He showed me Lumos and the Levitating Spell. Not only that, it was with wandless magic." she said quietly.

The staff room was quiet.

"A genius! An absolute genius!" Professor Flitwick squeaked, almost falling out of his chair.

Minerva nodded her head. "The child is looking for new ways to challenge himself, not satisfied with his accomplishments." she looked around at the teachers before continuing. "So, what do we do?"

The teachers remained silent and some of them even turned to Dumbledore who just smiled but didn't say anything. Minerva let out a sigh. "We let him continue as he is. We can try and give him advice and guidance the best we can but unless we start giving him extra lessons…" she trailed off.

"I will find some time and give him extra lessons!" Flitwick squeaked. "A genius like him needs to be groomed."

"I will give him guidance when I can." Professor McGonagall said. When no other teacher came forward the staff meeting was finished.
