"Bang" the doors to the ruler inner chambers shut behind Ji-woo.
She had been so tensed in there that she couldn't wait to come out, to think that she would have to be in their midst most of the time sent chills running down her spine.
She knew she had to summon courage and adapt quickly to her situation and environment for her own good.
She recounted Hyunwoo's voice listing out her duties. "I have a lot in store for me" she thought to herself.
The feelings of fatigue that she had earlier ignored washed over her again, this time with greater intensity.
Her legs trembled and almost gave way if it wasn't for a long vase beside her that she held unto for her dear self.
" Minkyu is there any other thing I am needed to do" she asked faintly.
" Not at all hugyeja, the just concluded meeting was the last thing on your agenda for today" Minkyu replied and led the way towards Ji-woo's room.
"I will stay at my mother's for tonight" Ji-woo instructed
Her mother was the one person she wanted to see the most aside Ji-soo. She had missed her mother so much, if she couldn't see her mother tonight, it may take a while before she would be able to.
" Mother !!!" Ji-woo screamed and rushed over to hug Aegyoung who was previously engrossed in her book before Ji-woo's arrival.
" Hugyeja, what are you doing here? You should have stayed back in your chambers to rest, look at your face, it has tiredness written all over it, you need to rest for tomorrow's activities" Aegyoung complained.
" Mother, is that what you should say to your daughter whom you've not seen in a very long time?"
Ji-woo felt perplexed, she had expected to be hugged tightly and commended but here she was getting scolded.
" And mother what is it with the honorifics from you, I definitely cannot get used to that, so just call me Ji-woo like you always have" Ji-woo added softly when tears began to form in her eyes.
She couldn't tell if she was angry or sad she was just so overwhelmed with stirring emotions.
" My dear, I'm sorry if I made you feel like I was scolding you, I was just being worried and concerned, you looked so tired and I wanted you to rest fully" Aegyoung said and caressed Ji-woo's cheeks with care.
" I've obviously missed you so so much, is that even a question" Aegyoung chuckled and stared keenly at Ji-woo.
Ji-woo burst into laughter and they both ended up laughing uncontrollably.
They chatted for a while, Ji-woo shared her experiences while training on the mountains with Aegyoung who couldn't help but feel sorry or proud whenever Ji-woo would talk about her challenges or accomplishments.
After a long exciting talk, they both retired to bed. Ji-woo laid in Aegyoung arms.
" Mother"
"Mmnh" Aegyoung mumbled in response.
" Can you sing me a lullaby" Ji-woo politely requested.
Aegyoung chuckled and stroked her hair "Shall I sing you the lullaby I always sang for you and your sister when you couldn't sleep as little kids?" Aegyoung asked excitedly.
" Yes that would do" Ji-woo chuckled and placed herself ready for the lullaby.
Aegyoung cleared her throat and started to sing
"My little girls,
My little stars,
The treasures of my heart....."
Aegyoung closed her eyes tightly while singing, a memory of her cuddling their little warm and fragile bodies flashed her mind, she giggled and continued singing.
As Aegyoung sang, Ji-woo began reminiscing on her childhood playing in the field with Ji-soo, she smiled
It felt vivid, it felt real, she could still hear their little giggles and screams.
"We were so happy" she thought to herself.
