Capítulo 69: Dinner With The Enemy

Later I was escorted to a room with a single table with candles.. real romantic. I shiver and try to act calm as I see Ryder walk in and sit at one of the two chairs at the table. I straighten my back and stiffly sit in the opposite chair. Food was instantly served and though everything looked and smelled amazing my stomach was knotted up.

I look up to see Ryder watching me and says "If you don't like this I can have them make you anything you'd like." I blink and think about how this sounds. It sounds like a man doting on a woman he clearly cares about and it should give you a special warm feeling but it was the complete opposite. I give him an awkward smile and pick at the food.

"You can let your little friend out to eat. I'm sure he's hungry as well. My report says he enjoys food." Ryder takes a drink of the wine and my hand freezes. He knew Fig was with me... and his reports? Don't tell me he had someone spying on us and knows more than I care to think about.. I feel Fig stiffen but he doesn't move.

I look back to see Ryder still watching and I feel a cold sweat break out across my back. It was unnerving the way he was always watching me and my reactions so I do my best to hide my true emotions. I give him another awkward smile and say "Come on out Fig.." Fig waits a breath or two before slowly removing himself from my hair and sitting on the table close to me.

Ryder watches Fig with amusement and pushes a dish of food to Fig in offering. Fig looks from Ryder to the food then back to me. I give the slightest shrug and Fig takes a small piece. He takes a quick sniff before nibbling on the food. Ryder smiles and turns back to me saying "I've had another room arranged for you so that you'll be more comfortable."

I freeze and look back to him and hesitate. Am I suppose to say "Thank you" !? I clear my voice and put the food down before saying "Look Ryder.. Whatever you think may justify killing every single human... it's wrong. You're wrong. If you want to make the world a better place.. killing innocent people is not the way to do it." I say clenching my hands. Ryder stops eating and looks at me with those ice blue eyes and I feel the room drop several degrees causing goosbumps to break out along my arms.
