Capítulo 6: Chapter 6

[Sorry if it is bad. I wrote this in class....Fuck math]

"We're going to find a quiet place to stop," Poul informed Lee, realizing that they had forgotten to scavenge for supplies.

Lee's eyes widened with realization. "Oh, shit. Yeah, I forgot too," he admitted.

After another half-hour of driving, Poul pulled over. He glanced at the nearly empty gas tank on the dashboard and sighed. "We might as well leave the car here," he mused. "It won't take us much farther. I thought we had more gas, but I guess the car was just thirsty." He chuckled and rubbed his temples in frustration.

In the backseat, Lee nodded and gently woke up Clementine, who groggily came to.

Meanwhile, Poul turned off the engine of the Nissan.

Once they were ready, physically preparing Lee and Poul for potential fights and mentally preparing Clementine, they all exited the car. Clementine clutched onto Lee's hand while Poul held a steel pipe in his right hand.

Poul surveyed their surroundings before his eyes settled on a 24/7 store. "Well, that's where we're going," he declared.

"Alright," Lee said, lowering himself to Clementine's level. He asked her, "Are you ready, Clem?"

"Yes," she answered softly, still not speaking much.

Poul nodded and led the way towards the store, with Lee and Clementine trailing behind.

As they reached the store, Poul abruptly halted at the door, causing Lee and Clementine to stop in their tracks as well. Poul tightened his grip on the pipe in his right hand and slowly opened the door with his left. Unfortunately, the little bell above the door rang, causing all of them to tense up.

For a few nerve-wracking seconds, they stood motionless, fearing the arrival of walkers. When none appeared, they released the breaths they had been holding and cautiously entered the store, with Poul leading the way.

Inside, they immediately noticed signs of a commotion. A shelf had been pushed over, and there was blood on the ground and the cashier's desk.

"Ah, shit!" Poul exclaimed, but quickly corrected himself when he glanced at Clementine. "Uh... I mean, Jesus."

They ventured further into the small store. Clementine appeared frightened, while Lee wore a pensive expression, wondering about the safety of his parents and brother in their pharmacy store. He reassured himself with the belief that it couldn't be as bad in Macom as it was here in Georgia.

Poul entered the stockroom, which also served as an office and locker room, to ensure it was clear of walkers. Inside, he discovered a lifeless body, catching him off guard. "FUCK!" he exclaimed, stumbling back and accidentally hitting his hip on the door frame. "FUCKING CUNT!" he cursed again.

Lee hurried to Poul's side, as fast as he could with his injured leg, and asked, "Are you alright, Poul?" Clementine followed closely behind Lee.

Poul raised his hand to signal that he was fine. "I'm fine. Just... don't let her look inside," he requested.

What Poul had seen was a man with half his head missing, with a shotgun next to him. Lee and Poul didn't need to discuss what had happened to the man. With a saddened look in his eyes, Lee nodded to Poul, silently agreeing that Clementine shouldn't see the gruesome sight, and they both left the room.

Poul remained in the room, scouring through drawers, cabinets, and lockers. He found some useless money, moldy food, clothes, and a revolver. He inspected the clothes—a jacket and a shirt—that fit his size, albeit with slightly long sleeves. Poul decided to change into them.

Emerging from the room, Poul announced, "I found a gun and some clothes, but they only fit me."

Lee sighed, realizing he should change as well. "Can you let me know if you find any clothes that will fit?" he asked Poul.

"Yeah, sure," Poul replied.

To their surprise, Clementine finally spoke up. "Um, can you find me some candy?" she asked timidly.

Poul smiled and replied, "Of course."

"By the way," Lee added, "I found two duffle bags. We can use them to carry our belongings."

"Ah, that's great," Poul acknowledged, slinging one of the bags over his shoulder.

"This place is completely overrun. There's hardly anything left," Poul muttered after ten minutes of searching.

But then his eyes lit up with excitement. He had stumbled upon a box filled with canned corn, beans, peaches, and peas. "Jackpot!" he exclaimed, beckoning Lee and Clementine over.

They approached, elated at the discovery. However, Clementine made a puzzled expression and asked, "Um, what are we going to cook with these?"

Lee glanced at Poul, sharing Clementine's confusion. Poul sighed, as he packed the cans into the duffle bag, and explained, "We'll keep searching for more supplies, but for now, we don't have much of a choice - we'll have to cook these together. Unless you want to eat them straight out of the can, cold." He raised an eyebrow playfully at the end of his statement.

Both Lee and Clementine shook their heads, and they resumed their search, scanning shelves and cabinets for anything useful.

Poul managed to find some candies like Snickers for Clementine, but he decided to hold off on giving them to her until after she had eaten a proper meal. He also found four packs of cigarettes and six bottles of water, each 1.5 liters.

Lee discovered tissues and a single can of beans, while Clementine's search turned up empty-handed. Poul patted her on the back, expressing gratitude for her help, while she pouted in disappointment.
