Ever wondered what does dying feels like?
Although it's a bizarre question in many people's opinion, I certainly did ponder over this so-called 'bizarre question' quite a few times in my life, even if you call me crazy over it… and I think most of us can agree on the fact that even if for just an instance, we have to have thought about it at some point in time in our lives.
Whether out of curiosity that always kills the cat? Or perhaps over the sadness of losing a loved one, we didn't really love in reality? Or it may have been at the coincidental moment you witnessed the death of someone right before your eyes… right? In all these moments, one question must have at least come to your mind which may not have clicked at that very instant but would have surely surfaced at another point, and in that instant, you can't help but think over it at least once… 'What does dying actually feel like?'
I don't know what others have thought over this question… I certainly have my opinion.
And trust me when I say this, it feels painful as hell, your heart stops beating, you are unable to breathe at all but your consciousness is still there and struggling to survive, you are writhing in pain and would rather prefer to die than go through such a tormenting experience, but your survival instincts want you to live and there's nothing you can do about that because you are dying…! These differences pit you in a whirlpool of struggle you may call as agony, which, most of the time you can't survive if heaven or perhaps hell in the most cases is calling for you…
But then again, although the process of death is extremely painful, this pain doesn't last very long and soon fades into nothingness(?) or maybe something similar(?) along with our consciousness where we perceive nothing except for a state of blankness, that is only if we can, for time and eternity.
In short, the process of dying is a thriller one with the highest ups and downs of struggle and a surreal feeling at the end which doesn't last very long, and you can't help but wonder again, "Is this really what dying feels like??"
"Your question has many forms of answers, with each answer being correct one and each one being incorrect at the same time… But if you are asking my personal opinion as to the Goddess of the Cycle of Death and Rebirth, then I would say it depends on how you have died… Depending on that, the answer can vary… I can give you hundreds of thousands of answers based on the mode of your death, which would take up a lot of our time and time is something we are seriously lacking in, so let's not discuss it for now…
Now that we are clear about it, getting back to the main point… do you agree to my request?" said a bespectacled loli who claims to be the Goddess of the Cycle of Death and Rebirth.
"Sigh, loli Goddess what was your name again…? Samsara(?) if I recall correctly, right? Can you please stop reading my mind? And I strongly demand that you explain the situation to me clearly again! I wasn't able to pay attention while you were explaining things earlier because my head is a bit too blank and unable to adapt to this surreal feeling that still feels as if I am in some kind of dream…" – the boy beckoned the Goddess of the Cycle of Death and Rebirth.
"Ugh, again? You can't be serious!" said Samsara with an unbelievable expression as if she really didn't want to go through the process of explaining everything again, because it would take a lot of time… Time is something she really doesn't have…
Of course, judging by the surroundings that are filled with rows and rows of paperwork to be completed, the boy can also see that this bespectacled loli who claims to be Goddess Samsara is really busy, but no way… he didn't expect to come to face such a situation just after his so-called 'death'… 'Not to mention getting the chance of Reincarnation while keeping my memories intact… such a thing is simply unbelievable!'
The Goddess Samsara could obviously read the boy's mind, and nodded with a helpless sigh… "Considering that I am the one asking for your help, I think explaining it more clearly would be better for both of our sake…
Now, as I mentioned earlier… firstly I want your help to resolve a problem, that we, the Gods, are unable to solve.
And secondly, and more importantly, stop calling me with the term 'bespectacled loli who claims to be the Goddess Samsara'… I am not claiming to be Goddess Samsara… I am the Goddess Samsara…!"
'Does that mean she is fine with me calling her 'bespectacled loli' because she is a bespectacled loli?' thought the boy in wonder, but soon discarded this thought upon feeling a certain someone's piercing gaze…
*Cough*… (A forced cough to relieve the embarrassment…)
"Anyway, what exactly is the problem that you expect a mere mortal like me to be able to help you solve that the Gods themselves are unable to?" asked the boy in confusion… It is hard for him to imagine being able to help them deal with something that even the likes of almighty Gods are having trouble dealing with.
"Although the problem is not that big for now, it may become a bit big in the future depending on how we deal with it… And the reason, we, the Gods are unable to solve it is because of the rules we are bound with…" answered Samsara while pushing her glasses on the bridge of her nose.
"Rules?" the boy frowned… he was unable to understand what exactly the Goddess is referring to.
The Goddess Samsara explained, "Yes, the rules. Each God is bounded by some kind of rules, and can't act beyond those rules, else the system will collapse.
To better understand it, think of these rules as domains… We are nigh on invincible and unmatched when it comes to our domain, but we can't do anything beyond our domain…
At the same time, these rules also bind us from directly interfering with the domains of others, especially related to the issues of the mortal world.
For instance, taking me as an example, since I am the Goddess of the Cycle of Death and Rebirth, I am unmatched in my domain, everything related to life, death, rebirth, and reincarnation is in my control but If I have to fight someone then I won't be able to do so, because that's not my domain."
The boy nodded, "Although I don't fully understand, I get the gist of it…"
"If you do then that's helpful… now that you understand the situation a little bit, what I ask of you is to help us solve this problem." – Goddess Samsara requested of the boy.
"Forgive me for my rudeness Goddess Samsara, but you have yet to tell me what the problem is… I need to understand it first only then will I be able to decide whether I am going to help or not… If I feel that it's too much for me, then you will have to forgive me, but I will refuse." Clearly stated the boy as he had no intention of chewing on something he can't swallow.
Samsara wasn't surprised and nodded while explaining, "Now where should I start from… well, it happened eons ago, at that time, one of the Gods amongst us misused his authority by over crossing the bounds of rules of his domain. His actions caused severe damage to the system to the point of collapse of the multiverse and all life forms, that God of judgment (Supreme God) had no other choice left but to seal him away for all eternity…
Although we sealed that fallen God, however, since the system was damaged to the point of collapse, it caused various irregularities and bugs in it which we Gods were left to solve over the course of the next millions of years.
It has been over several million years since then, and all of us Gods have been overworking ourselves to the point of death in order to fix the system… but there are several bugs that continued to arise and we need to constantly solve them else they can cause quite precarious problems to the overall functioning of the system.
And as if that was not the only thing… Another major problem is what the Fallen God left us with."
"And what's that?" asked the boy.
"Just before he was sealed, a 'Shard' of his that did not have any divinity managed to escape the seal by taking advantage of the loopholes in the rules…
Since that 'Shard' had no divinity at that time so tracking it was extremely difficult, and in fact, we didn't even have enough time to track it and had already planned to completely ignore its existence as long as that 'Shard' doesn't become a problem to the system…
Unfortunately, that can no longer happen, as its actions have started to cause us problems. We have been observing it for some time, and in all time we have observed it, it has been traveling from one Mortal World to the other, causing more and more anomalies to the system, thus we have concluded that the longer it is allowed to continue to exist, the more bugs it will cause to the system… which is something we can not allow to happen as that can endanger all forms of lives across the multiverse." – Samsara explained with a sigh.
"So, if you Gods have already decided it, then why don't you just deal with it already? What's stopping you?" – the boy asked with a frown.
"That's the problem… Since the 'Shard' does not contain any trace of divinity in it, therefore, it is now a mortal, and as per the rules we are bound with, the Gods can't actively interfere in the affairs of the mortal world. If we were to directly interfere in the affairs of the mortal world, it might cause another problem in the System, and that would be too dangerous! But at the same time, we can't let it exist as that would again cause problem… so upon thinking a lot, and observing the recent rising trends of your world, we decided to try a different approach…"
The boy nodded in understanding, "So, basically, the Gods wants me to deal with it in their places?"
"If bluntly speaking, then the answer would be, a yes. We have deployed various means to prevent its travel to any other world by confining it into a single world where it was spotted the last time… and we want you to go to that world and completely eliminate that 'Shard'." Samsara nodded.
The boy asked again, "But why me? I mean you mentioned that you have confined the 'Shard' into a particular world… So, don't you think it would be better to ask the mortals of that world to deal with it immediately and eliminate it? I am sure you Gods would be able to find some volunteer, as there is never a shortage of such people willing to be heroes."
Samsara answered, "Unfortunately that's not possible. The reason is that the people of that Mortal World are bounded by the rules and the fate of that Mortal World; however, the 'Shard' of the Fallen God won't be bounded by the rules of that mortal world because it is not from that World… So, to deal with it, we need a representative from some other world who is not bound by the rules of that world either, that's where you come into the play.
And as for your question of wondering why were you chosen for the task?
The answer is quite simple in fact. You were the soul who was supposed to undergo the process of rebirth at the moment when I received the task of choosing a candidate, therefore I chose you, as simple as that."
The boy was speechless, "So you are saying that if someone else was the candidate to undergo the process of rebirth at that moment, then you would have chosen them without a second thought?"
Samsara nodded then asked with a confused expression, "Yes, is there a problem with that?"
The boy shook his head, "I find it highly unbelievable… and I think you are highly irresponsible!"
"But it's the truth though…" – Samsara muttered lightly, then putting away the topic, she asked, "Anyway, so would you be willing to do it?"
The boy thought a little, then asked tentatively, "I don't mind doing it, but will I really be able to do it? And what's in it for me?"
Samsara nodded, and said, "You don't have to worry about whether you will be able to do it or not… If you agree to do it, we will obviously grant you powers that will help you deal with the 'Shard', of course, the powers must meet the rules of the world you will be going in, and you will have to develop them over time to be able to match or surpass the power of the 'Shard' else you too will become an anomaly, which would make it difficult for you to accommodate in that world.
As for what's in it for you. Isn't being able to have another chance at life with your memories intact more than enough? People who are able to get such a chance in their life are very rare… And I can't think of anything that would be more attractive to someone who has experienced death already…"
"You may be right, but that's not enough to convince me…" the boy outright rejected Samsara.
Samsara sighed, "Alright then… based on your profile from your past life, you seem to be one of those new races of human beings called Otaku, right?"
The boy blushed at the mention of 'Otaku'… and seeing the boy's blush, a grin emerged on the Goddess's face, as she said… "If you agree to my request, then we Gods will do two things for you:
First, find a way to delete your search history which is filled with searches of ###### type numbers… And second, we will give you a chance at the so-called Multiverse travel, that you Otaku's always dream of.
Of course, the chance of traveling through the Multiverse will only come after you have dealt with the 'Shard', as for your history? I will find a way to clean it up before anyone or more specifically your parents discover the news of your death, how does that sound?"
"I agree!"
