Laying on the battlefield, the Tennyson gang and Fred took a moment to rest after finally defeating Vilgax. The sun was beginning to set, signaling that they needed to get moving. They got up and headed to where the rust bucket had crashed.
"The rust bucket is totally totaled," Ben said, standing in front of the damaged vehicle. Max frowned, looking it over.
"It did tank a hit from Vilgax's ball thingy," Fred remarked. "But I can still fix it up, no problem," he added confidently.
"Really?" Gwen's eyes lit up with joy.
"Yeah, not only that, I can make it even better than before. With all the tech from Vilgax's drones, I have all the materials I need," Fred assured them.
"I'd appreciate that, Fred, but don't go overboard," Max said, his tone firm.
"Hmm, I wonder if he'd like the design from the reboot," Fred thought to himself.
"Before that, I think we should clean up a bit," Max suggested, glancing around at the tattered land filled with broken alien tech and craters.
"Hahaha, yeah," the kids agreed in unison.
Ben transformed into XLR8, zipping around to collect all the techy scraps into one big pile next to the rust bucket. Fred used his magic to restore the roadside battlefield to its former pasture, working with haste. Once finished, they gathered again at the rust bucket.
"So! Any suggestions before I start?" Fred asked, but he quickly regretted it as Ben and Gwen began to ramble nonstop with requests.
"Guys! Slow down!" Fred said, trying to keep up. He drew a simple sketch of their suggestions for the interior and decided to use the reboot rust bucket design for the exterior.
"I'd rather keep the old look of the outside and keep it simplistic inside," Max said.
"Well, that's a start," Fred remarked, though Ben and Gwen frowned, feeling their inputs were disregarded.
"You do know this isn't even your home, right?" Fred said, deadpan, as they moved to the side, drooping. Fred stretched his hands, preparing to rebuild. He transformed into Upgrade and got to work. In a minute, the rust bucket was rebuilt and as good as new, though it looked the same from the outside.
"That was fast," Gwen remarked, impressed.
Fred stood beside them, back to normal. "So? What do you think?" he asked, opening the door to reveal the inside. From the small glimpse, it looked like a completely different RV.
"Whoa!" Gwen and Ben exclaimed. It wasn't flashy, but it had a modern design. They entered to check it out.
"Sooo comfyyy!" Ben sank into the comfortable couch, Gwen beside him feeling the same.
"You really did this much in such a short amount of time?" Max exclaimed, sitting in the driver's seat.
"Fufu! It wasn't much," Fred replied with a prideful smile. "As you can see, I used every bit of tech from Vilgax's drones, so the Rust Bucket 2.0 is more than its predecessor," Fred said, sitting in the front passenger seat. "Right now, it may seem like one of those luxury RVs, but this guy has a mean side as well," Fred continued, pressing a button on the steering wheel. The Rust Bucket's interior subtly changed.
"Using the old plumber system as the foundation, I've upgraded everything. With the salvageable energy cores from all those drones, I've built a new hybrid energy system for the rust bucket, capable of lasting ten years at maximum output without recharging. I've also incorporated a solar harvesting array, so the recharge on this bad boy is crazy fast. There's an intergalactic internet system now with plumber security for smooth surfing. Even the normal internet system is stronger and can connect in nearly every location. The weapons, hohoho, don't get me started..." Fred rambled on about the upgrades. An hour passed as he explained, leaving everyone exhausted just from listening.
"Hugh, it's finally over," Ben remarked, relieved.
"Anyway, I know you said to hold off on the flashy stuff, but I added a space array to the bathroom so it's bigger inside," Fred noted.
"If it's that much, then it's fine," Max replied.
"Speaking of the bathroom, I think we should get freshened up and leave this place," Max said. The others laughed and agreed.
"I can't believe it, Vilgax's ship is mine now. With some remodeling, I'll have two spaceships. Although I won't have to change the design of this one, I'll change the inside and add..." Fred pondered as he took a shower, excited about his new acquisition.
"I'm tired. Can we leave it to the cops?" Gwen ranted. After everyone freshened up, they took off. Not long after entering the city, the radio reported strange activity, and Max immediately changed course. After the day they had, Gwen was annoyed, wanting some rest.
"For once, I agree with Gwen," Ben said, looking at Fred.
"Don't look at me. You're the hero," Fred said.
"But we both have the same powers. Can't you take care of this one?" Ben begged.
"I'll play you rock-paper-scissors to see who'll take care of this," Fred offered.
"Deal," Ben quickly agreed. They played the game, but Ben lost twice with only one win, so the task was his. "No fair," he grumbled as the rust bucket pulled up at the scene. Cops were surrounding the place, and people had gathered to see what was going on.
"Fred, can you make us invisible as we go in?" Max asked as he got up.
"Whaat, why do we have to go?" Gwen ranted, thinking Ben would handle it. Max seemed serious, having listened to the radio. The events hinted at alien activity, and aside from the Omnitrix, there hadn't been much alien presence on Earth recently. He wanted to investigate personally.
"Is it something big?" Fred asked as they got out.
Max nodded slightly, still uncertain. "Come on," he said as Fred cloaked everyone, and they went inside the building.
"This place is a wreck," Ben remarked as they entered the building, his eyes scanning the chaos. Furniture lay in pieces, and the lights flickered erratically, some completely dead.
"Ahhhh!" Gwen screamed, bumping into the creature responsible for the destruction.
"Keep it down, would ya?" Ben whispered sharply.
"It's okay, no one can hear a thing while we're invisible," Fred assured them.
"Well, that's handy," Ben said, a hint of relief in his voice.
"Yeah, you'd be surprised by the possibilities this opens up," Fred remarked, a smug smile playing on his lips as he recalled some of the ecchi stuff he had read in his past life. But now wasn't the time for that. The creature, puzzled by the invisible bump, looked around in confusion.
"Wait, that's it!" Ben exclaimed, excitement in his voice. "Okay, let's get this over with," he said, stepping forward.
But Max pulled him back, his grip firm. "Wait, Ben," Max cautioned, his tone serious.
The gang stood silent and still, observing the creature. It was an alien, its skin a mottled green, with eyes that glowed a menacing yellow. The creature sniffed the air, sensing their presence but unable to see them.
