Capítulo 19: Chapter 19: Volantis(Karna's POV)

The war of Volantis will have now its first battle, the Volatene did not choose to fight us in the river for obvious reasons. The army of the Volantis was quite large, seems like they were taking this war seriously. There were some famous mercenaries of my time. Some include the Balerion's Swords, the Seven-Star Warriors, the Hellhounds, and so on.

The only company of my time that I know the history of is the Seven-Star Warriors. They were formed by the few remains that were fast enough to escape after Theon Stark defeated the Andal warlord Argos Sevenstar.

The stark contracted mercenaries to hunt them down for a couple of millennia, in other to finish their ancestor's job, making one think that the north really remembers. So the company had more contracts in far eastern wars and little to no presence in the west until Brandon the Burner, who in my opinion should have been named the Idiot, Incopetent-Ruler, or Mad-King, destroyed the whole north navy.

Only the Second Sons and Bright Banners have a name that I seem to remember that still existed in the far future. It seems the Second Sons have not gained their terrible reputation yet. The names of every man to serve with the Second Sons are written in a leather-bound book, as well as when they joined, where they fought, how long they served, and the manner of their deaths.

A tradition of the company is to sign in red ink. They have not abandoned the tradition of each new man writing his name in his own blood yet.

Their forces in total seem to contain approximately forty thousand mercenaries, ten thousand Unsullied, and twenty thousand of the city's local army. I can't even guess how they convinced the cowardly "good masters" to sell so many of their precious slave soldiers, maybe with pressure from Valyria itself, it seems that all were completely trained, so they might have placed their order long ago.

We on the other hand were with thirty thousand soldiers from Sar Mell, and ten thousand soldiers from my city Volon Therys. I want to muster more soldiers, but my city's population is much smaller than Sar Mell. Overall, we were in a situation of an army of forty thousand fighting an army of seventy thousand.

Though, I found it hard to say if it was a disadvantageous situation, as all our army was well-trained soldiers, while there is a lot of water mixed in the mercenaries following them. Not saying that I underestimate this world's mercenaries, but there are mercenary companies and MERCENARY COMPANIES.

The local forces of Volantis also have their problems with city guards, young nobles in military service, and noble guards, including slave guards mixed up to form a chaotic force, and being commanded by the old blood of valyrian who really don't want to get mixed with "the rabble". The real problem is the Unsullied.

They were a great infantry unit, that would be probably much more useful if they were trained to be heavy infantry instead of light infantry. Their discipline makes them a much more troublesome force than most mercenary companies and even the city's private forces.

Instead of keeping our forces separated, we joined them into a unified army. Our infantry was divided between light infantry, where were most women soldiers, and used as a more mobile force, and heavy infantry, a less mobile unity used to give a stronger defense against cavalry units. In cavalry, we have a light cavalry for scouting and looking for enemy weaknesses; a heavy cavalry to perform whose job was basically to break the enemy's line; and a line cavalry, whose job is in between this and function may change depending on the situation.

We also have a professional army, with ranks that gradually increase to control larger fragments of the army to increase mobility, by more easily allowing the army to divide and reassemble quickly like the Sparta ranking system, but not exactly the same.

The enemy army was divided as such: the unsullied was in the front defending the formation, with the forces divided in right and left flank, in other to open a path in the middle for the cavalry charge, with also armed scouts coming and returning from the front; in the middle, there were the mercenaries that make the bulk of the army; at the back was the cities forces and the armies heavy cavalry.

The enemy decided to attack first as they consider they were at the advantage. The heavy infantry was commanded by my grandfather and my father was helping him, most of the princes were there as well. As the enemy cavalry reached the heavy infantry, it was repelled and gradually pushed back. It gave way to a counterattack of our army.

Vrisha sent me a bow he made especially for me, it was a dragon bone bow with aquamarine runes in it and dragon tendon string wrapped in aquamarine steel as its string. Arrows made of aquamarine steel, that I surely would have to collect later.

I want to test this bow and arrow. Instead of starting the fight with the cavalry. Where could most damage be done to the enemy's army? Should I attack the unsullied? Thinking about it I think it's better to disrupt the less disciplined force, the mercenaries.

As even if I killed several unsullied with it, their formation will probably not be completely broken. The heavy cavalry is a better match for them. Some might say that the Unsullied can hold their ground against larger cavalry units like the Dothraki, but I need to emphasize that the unsullied as a light infantry can hold the lines against the Dothraki light cavalry. I doubt they would achieve the same feat against the Westeros heavy cavalry for example.

With my horse to my left, I took the bow and started aiming. The soldiers may think I am insane as we are too far for any normal bow to be able to fire an arrow that reaches the enemy. But I am not holding a normal bow.

When firing an arrow, I decided to fill the arrow with water magic as well, which in itself includes a prayer to Mother Rhoyne. The first one flew passing through fifteen bodies until stopping inside the sixteen one. It made a sharp water line while flying that gradually started to become painted red with blood flowing to it like a small blood river. Strangely enough, mercenaries near the arrow's trajectory that were not hit started falling. I can only guess that it has something to do with the water magic.

I fired ten more arrows killing at least a thousand. I think maybe I should fire an arrow on horseback while riding, as I already trained for it. Perhaps, I should call my arrows as arrow-cannons because they seem to be practically as destructive as a cannon. It by far was not Vijaya bow with all its use restrictions and power, but it was also a cool weapon for me.

Talking about cannons, I did not take one here because of their low mobility, and because they were still in the testing phase, and I need to think of a better method to transport them. The mercenaries were already in complete disarray.

So I mounted my horse, and with the cavalry under my command behind me, we formed a wedge formation and charged at the enemy forces. I with a big aquamarine steel pointed spear charged at the enemy, and quickly swept through the enemy's defense.

I think I would be sad by killing in cold blood a bunch of brainwashed slave fighters, but I felt nothing. Maybe death is a blessing for them, which became slaves even in mind, being stuck in the invisible chains and visible chains, and can't even muster the willpower to break them and make their weak master experience the h*ll they deserve. As we broke the Unsullied's line of defense, the mercenaries were mere cannon fodder.

Right behind us, the light infantry was advancing as well. A lot of mercenaries began to run and we began to hunt them, while the light infantry focused on eliminating the main army. Mother, grandmother, and most princesses were in the light infantry, as they fit agile combat more. Like that we overwhelm the enemy's army with the few survivors scattering all around.

So we cleaned the battlefield, and pursue the rest of the enemies. I decided to give the pitiful Unsullied a quick but proper funeral, but f*ck the rest we simply burned their bodies. This is a holy war again and we rhoynar as a whole are as pissed as in the previous one.

As we got information about the valyrians' failed attempts to kill Old Men of the River. The hatred between our people is increasing, I will not deny that most rhoynar did not laugh at the fate of the people of ... that tried to hunt our holy beasts and ended up having their city destroyed by them.

The remaining survivors of the army have joined with the local militia forming a defense at Volantis. Reaching Volantis we made a siege in front of the city.

They could not hold the city defense with few men for long. So we tried to negotiate for the remaining militia to surrender. The old bloods decided to provoke us instead of surrendering the city. Starting to through rhoynar slaves from the city walls, after beheading them.

They threatened to continue if we do not retreat. Seems like they were trying to gain time, maybe waiting for the gallant prince dragon riders to come to save them, or whatever terrible plan they have. My patient was gone. One thing to note is that Volantis is too big of a city to be wholly drowned even with all our mages, though I am not sure with my help into the mix.

"I can feel nature" actually I am referring to the prana spread through the world. Then, I continued talking to my grandfather."I can tell that Mother Rhoyne's water is much more than we see, behind our eyes, they still flow through several underground rivers and aquifers. So let me teach this self-proclaimed old blood a lesson they will never forget in h*ll! "

So I sat, on the ground feeling connected to nature, recited a spell in my mind, and used my senses to control the underground water flow. From the ground, a water h*ll came for the old blood. So the city lost its history. The black walls, the place regarded as the political, cultural, economic, and military center of the city was gone, with all the old blood being ripped apart by the violent waters. So Old Volantis in the eastern half of Volantis was no more.

To the ones who saw the cataclysm, the water seems gentle to the slaves, forming cocoons covering them and protecting them from the wreckage of the buildings. It gave me a terrible headache controlling all that water so carefully, later I will need a good night of sleep. Later still not calmed down, I walked to the city's outer wall with my rage throw a fist and broke a hole in it. We took over the city, killing every single man of the militia not letting any alive, and hunted for any old blood survivor.

We did not annihilate the city because it would probably start an all-out war with Valyria too early without the support of the other rhoynar cities, like the same and the opposite at once of the original history, where Sarhoy destruction led to a coalition from the rhoynar cities.

From the elephants, we took all, but the clothes that they wear and their children. We freed all the slaves and transferred them to our cities.
