Capítulo 2: Chapter 2

Jin turned to look at Marin Kitagawa, who wanted to talk to him.

"Are you okay?"

"Y-Yeah! T-Thank you." Looking at the girl who was barely holding herself back from trembling, Jin sighed.

He didn't mean to blame her at all; after all, he had gone through the same experience when he was eight.

No one is born with a strong stance when faced with strange and supernatural events.

The difference lies in how one processes the shock and keeps their mind from drifting away.

Even knowing it was an anime world with plenty of oddities didn't mean he could stand and speak normally during his first fight.

Let alone kill the monster on the first try.

It took some time for him to get used to it, but now he was strong enough and had solid control over his emotions.

Thus, he completely understood her state and tried to reassure her.

He reached out, placing his hands on her shoulders to calm her down. He smiled faintly and said, "It's over now, and you're safe."

Marin didn't respond; she just stared at him before slowly embracing him and starting to cry.

Jin remained silent, gently patting her back, allowing her to release all her emotions.

—----------------------------

"Are you feeling better?" Jin handed Marin a soda as she sat on the chair outside a convenience store while he stood beside her.

"Yes, thank you."

"It's my duty."

"What was that thing?" Marin asked as she looked at Jin.

"A puppy."

Marin tilted her head in confusion, and Jin looked at her.

"A monster called Cerberus, though not the original from mythology, just a poor replica."

Marin nodded in response. She knew who Cerberus was—a powerful entity in mythology—but the one she saw had been beaten mercilessly.

"So...what's your name?" Marin asked, and Jin replied.

"Jin. Jin Hiratsuka."

"Hiratsuka?" Marin muttered to herself. The name sounded familiar, but she couldn't quite recall.

It's a wonder she still had the strength to sit and talk.

"Yeah. Anyway, you're okay now. If you need any help, contact the people in black suits. They may always look angry, but they're kind." Jin tossed the soda can away and was about to leave when Marin grabbed his hand.

"Excuse me, Hiratsuka-san, but can we exchange contact information?" Although it was her first time asking a boy for such a thing, the lingering emotions from the incident erased her shyness.

"I'm Marin Kitagawa, by the way."

While Jin was puzzled as to why she wanted his number, he gave it to her anyway.

For some reason, the heroines in this world seemed to encounter trouble more than anyone else, which was convenient for him as it led to stronger monsters and better rewards.

He had several experiences in the past with other characters.

Killing Cerberus had earned him a moderate boost in his strength, which was quite beneficial.

The two parted ways, and Marin was left to her thoughts, staring at the number saved on her phone.

—----------------------------------------

Upon arriving at his apartment, Jin went straight in, tossed his clothes aside, and headed for a shower.

"Nothing beats a bath after a tiring day," he said, sinking his body into the tub and relaxing.

He checked his phone and opened a private site for clients of the organization.

Dozens of articles were published daily by members—it was like a massive chat group for them.

"Increasing Monster Numbers in Tokyo Cause Concern!?" Jin glanced at the intriguing headline.

Sometimes, discussions like this popped up as a form of entertainment, so Jin felt curious.

"In the past decade, Japan has seen a massive increase in monster numbers across all cities. It started in Kyoto, and in the last three years, the increase in Tokyo alone has reached approximately 130%!"

Reading the detailed report, Jin was genuinely impressed.

But hadn't he moved to Tokyo three years ago?

...Also, hadn't he lived in Kyoto with his family before moving?

'...This isn't because of me, is it?'

Jin clasped his hands together in silent apology to the organization members, imagining their increased workload because of him.

He continued scrolling through the pages, hoping to find an interesting report, but all he found were mundane daily chats.

Finishing his bath, he draped a towel around his neck, got dressed, and headed to the living room.

While thinking about what to cook for dinner, he heard the doorbell ring, so he went to answer it.

Upon opening the door, he saw a head with peach-pink hair and eyes that lit up at the sight of him.

"YaHallo!" Recognizing the unique greeting, Jin smiled faintly and replied, "Hello, Yui."

"You haven't eaten yet, right? My mom made lots of food and told me to bring some to you." Without waiting for Jin's response, Yui Yuigahama entered, carrying a dish big enough for three people.

"Mrs. Yuigahama didn't have to go through so much trouble, you know."

"She loves cooking, and you're the only neighbor we know, so just eat it. If we left you alone, you'd just eat instant noodles."

'What's wrong with instant noodles?'

Yui treated the place like her own home, slipping on indoor slippers as she entered.

Jin glanced at Yui briefly, recalling a few work-related incidents.

Initially, Hachiman was supposed to save Yui's dog and get injured in the process, but because of Jin's presence, the entire situation had changed.

One of Jin's first friends in this world was Hikigaya Hachiman. Jin's social skills were excellent, and for some reason, the two had been friends since childhood.

So, on the day of the incident, Jin and Hachiman were together, and it was Jin who saved the dog.

Jin felt a bit sorry for his friend because he had unknowingly disrupted his love story with both Yukino and Yui.

This didn't bother Jin much, though. The world wasn't just an anime to him anymore. These weren't mere drawings—they were people with souls, personalities, and emotions.

Since entering this world, everything had already lost its original direction. Most importantly, he didn't believe in silly notions like staying out of events to preserve the plot.

He had the power, and it was enough to change what unfolded before his eyes, so why wait for the story to progress with mistakes and hurt characters just for the sake of "letting the world flow naturally"?

This was his philosophy, so he intervened whenever he saw fit. Of course, intervention here meant saving characters from incidents, whether part of the original story or unexpected occurrences like what happened with Marin Kitagawa earlier today.

He wasn't a hero or a saint traveling everywhere to save everyone, but as long as it was right in front of him and just required a little extra effort, why not?

"Jin-senpai?" Yui's voice snapped him out of his thoughts as she stood in front of him, looking puzzled.

"Sorry, I got distracted. Did you say something?" Jin asked, grabbing two plates for them.

"I was asking, how is high school? Is it super hard?" Yui asked, looking at the boy a year older than her.

Jin was a year ahead of Yui, Yukino, and Hachiman, already in high school.

He would start his second year tomorrow.

"Not at all. It's super easy," Jin replied, making Yui look at him silently.

"...Don't use yourself as a benchmark, okay?"

"You'll do just fine. Trust me, it'll be easy. Come on, let's eat." Jin set the plates down, and the two began eating.

After some time, they finished, and Yui left for her home while Jin cleaned up and listed the things he needed to do.

Usually, due to his boundless energy, he would spread it across a wide area to detect any non-human entities.

But seeing the empty task list meant no assignments, and that meant a peaceful, undisturbed day tomorrow.

He lay on his bed, scrolling through the increasingly interesting news of late.

[Signs of Sparda in One of the Countries]

[Will the Alliance Between Devils, Fallen Angels, and Angels Continue?]

[Basic Information About the Organization Called the Armed Detective Agency]

"...A lot of trouble is brewing," Jin sighed, putting his phone away and closing his eyes to embark on his journey into dreamland.
