Capítulo 35: 34. Sophomores

Chapter 34

The next day, the three first years and Oz on my shoulder could be seen sitting sullenly on the steps in front of the classroom, waiting for classes to start.

"He was screaming about living a long life, but he just went and died." Kugisaki told her, pretending not to care, and then turned to Megumi and asked. "Is this your first time seeing your partner die?"

"My age, my first time." Fushiguro replied in a hushed voice.

"I see, and you look fine."

"You're the same way," Megumi replied without changing her tone.

"Tch. How could it be otherwise? I've known him for two weeks now. I'm not the type to cry over a guy I barely know... Damn it. - Nobara replied, trying her best to act like she didn't care, but a second later her mask cracked and looking at her face, you could see that she was barely holding back tears.

I'm really glad they didn't drag me into this awkward conversation, especially since I, unlike them, am still in limbo on this issue and am not sure if Itadori is dead.

"It's hot," Fushiguro changed the subject.

"Exactly," the girl immediately seized on this. "Where are our summer uniforms?"

After a few more seconds of oppressive silence, the loud click of heels was heard. Maki Zenin appeared in front of us. She is a tall, athletic young woman with small golden eyes and long dark green hair pulled back into a short ponytail. She also has bangs over her forehead with smaller strands framing her cheeks, and she wears glasses that allow her to see curses. She was dressed in the traditional female uniform with a skirt of a magic college, except on her legs she had black leggings and shoes.

"Look at this," the girl caught our attention before continuing. "You look even gloomier than usual, Megumi. Like at a wake."

"Zenin, you..." Fushiguro began with a neutral expression, but he was interrupted.

"Don't call me by my last name..." the girl who hated her clan began to complain, but she was also interrupted.

"Maki, Maki," the giant panda comically hiding behind the statue called out to the girl.

"I'm busy." Maki immediately turned her face to him and answered.

- Y-You, you don't know why they fell?

- What are you talking about?

- Someone died yesterday, one of the first years. - Panda tensely enlightened the girl, who had already started to turn to face us.

- Dried tuna. - The blond man with purple eyes, who had been watching Panda, also confirmed.

At these words, Maki turned to her classmates like a poorly oiled machine and said, "You should have told me earlier." After which she screamed in anger. "Now I look like a heartless demon in front of them!"

"That's exactly what you are," Panda quickly answered.

"Salted caviar." The boy also confirmed.

"Who is it?" Nobara asked, pointing her finger at the arguing freshmen. Although, to be more precise, Maki was arguing, and the others were calmly answering.

"Our second-year students." I answered before Fushiguro, and then asked him. "Will you tell Megumi about them?"

"Okay. Zenin, for example, is the best at using cursed tools. Inumaki Toge is a magic caster, he only tells me the ingredients for onigiri, and this is Panda. And then there's Okkotsu Yuta, the only one I openly respect, but he's abroad." After briefly telling about all the second-year students, Megumi rose from the steps.

"Is there anything else you want to say about the panda?" Nobara asked, watching as the real panda, standing on its hind legs, communicated like a human. However, she still didn't get an answer to her question. Meanwhile, the second-year students gathered in front of us.

"Sorry, you're in mourning." Panda began to say before bowing and repeating again, but louder. "Excuse us!"

"We came to invite you to an exchange program with Kyoto High School." Panda finally stated the purpose of his visit.

- An exchange program with a Kyoto school? - Nobara asked, confused, and then added. - What is this?

- A meeting with another college from Kyoto.

- You can count on me. - I immediately agreed, without waiting for Megumi to express her doubts.

- And you?

- Special-level mage Emi from the Gojo clan. I will be glad to work with you, senpai.

- Excellent. - Maki answered with a smile, until the meaning of my words reached her. - Wait, special-level, where did so many of you come from?! Okkotsu only appeared last year, and this year you already?! And what kind of gibberish are you following?

- No, I have "six eyes" just like Gojo-sensei, only I can copy any damn techniques of others, for example, I have already learned Satoru Gojo's techniques.

- Wait. You two already knew all this? - Only now did Maki realize that her partners were not reacting to such statements, and, turning around, she saw only the guys looking away and Panda whistling.

- This is all interesting, but what are we going to do there? Play games? - Kugisaki asked with slight disdain, and then added. - I will not lose to anyone on the Wii console. I will hit you so hard that you will not come back to life!

- Then we'll play three on three. - Panda answered with a calm face before starting to explain.

- The principals of Tokyo and Kyoto schools will come for a meeting. In the two allotted days, they will decide what kind of competition will last for one day. But only on paper. - Panda said, spreading his paws at the end.

- Usually, the first day is team battles, the second - individual ones.

- Salmon. - Inumaki confirmed Panda's words.

- Individual and team battles... Fight?! With other magicians?! - Nobara exclaimed.

- Yes. - Maki answered with a satisfied smile. - Magic battles, where everything is allowed except killing.

- We will train you properly so that you do not die, - Panda said, and, as if for clarity, he began to practice punching the air.

- Well, do you agree? After all, you lost your partner. - Maki asked my classmates.

- Yes. - Megumi and Nobara answered with determination, and then said in unison. - I will become stronger. I will do it at any cost!

- What pathos! - I decided to spoil the overly pathos atmosphere a little.
