Capítulo 44: Chapter 44: Shireen

Kings Landing, Red Keep

Tension was high in the Red Keep, guards and maids were running around the castle frantically searching for the two youngest children of Robert and Cercei.

There was much confusion due to they were unsure of where they could've gone since there were guards everywhere all night. Many believed it was either the King or Queen themselves that hid them from the other.

It was common knowledge within the castle that Cercei was adamantly against Myrcella being wed to the Martells, she didn't care about Joffrey's engagement since his wife and he would remain in Kings Landing, but Myrcella would have been taken to live in Sunspear.

When Cercei learned that Robert offered her over to the Martell family, she and Robert had fought and argued multiple times, usually ending in Cercei receiving more bruises from Robert. So many thought that the Queen hid them away from Robert, knowing that the Martells were on their way to Kings Landing by boat.

Others thought the opposite, they thought the King took the two away to ensure that the Queen couldn't interfere in the arrangement he had made. They figured one of them were feigning anger or worry just to keep up the act for the other. Most thought that both children would either magically appear either as soon as the Martells arrived, or shortly after their ship left to return.

The only one to know what was truly going on was Barristan Selmy, he was shocked by how Aiden was able to get in and get both children without setting off any alarm or killing one guard, he didn't know it only took flying into their room, placing a bracelet on both their wrists then teleporting them to Kandor.

Barristan had received a written document detailing the plan, he was to await the arrival of Doran's daughter and son before issuing the claim along with evidence of the Queens deeds. There was several bastards of Robert within Kings Landing that could be used as proof, every one of them had black hair and blue eyes, it didn't matter the mothers features.

Robert's sanity was already in question, not just from his fury, but he truly was becoming mentally unhinged. Due to his lifestyle of staying within brothels daily, sleeping with several women, this was something he did even in his youth.

It began with painless sores, which was treated by the Maester at that time years ago, however just the sores were treated itself, they had no idea what they were truly dealing with.

Several weeks after the sores were gone, it became a rash that began to break out on Robert, once again he received treatment, but it seemed to not go away, it seemed to just move around his body.

The Maesters were perplexed, they had no knowledge of viruses, bacteria or germs. They mearly treated the symptoms but not the cause. They had seen the illness before, and thought it was curable, which it is if you had access to penicillin or other forms of antibiotics, which they did not. The reason they thought it was curable is because in the latent stages there are no visible symptoms any more.

The latent stage is when it begins to be internal, moving to your brain, eyes, ears and blood vessels. So the later symptoms can and usually are misdiagnosed.

What he had is known as syphilis, a very common sexually transmitted disease, it wasn't the worst one out there, but without modern medicine, it was deadly. But not in the sense that it killed them directly like others in the same catagory, the disease effected your brain if you didn't treat it properly.

Depression, mania, psychosis, delirium, dementia, and personality changes were just some of the effects of syphilis to the persons brain. So they would literally go into a deep depression and commit suicide, or they would become so crazy and manic that those around them end up killing them, fearing for their own safety.

It wasn't just Robert that was effected either, it was becoming an epidemic within Kings Landing. Robert slept with many prostitutes over the years, especially after becoming king, and although he did tend to have favorites, that would only last a few months till he would find a new favorites.

This was the reason Robert was becoming more violent as time went by, it was why he drank more and more to dull the severe headaches he would get from time to time. It didn't help that he sat upon a throne made of swords, each cut was a chance of getting infected.

Tetanus, staph, strep, cellulitis, clostridium and MRSA is just a few illnesses that can be caused by cuts from metal. It was why in ancient times, even if you only received a small gash in a non lethal area, you could still die several weeks or years after the battle. Even if the wound was washed and cleaned thoroughly.

This was the biggest advantage that those on Aiden's side had, those that resided within Kandor had access to medical knowledge and vaccines that would cure various diseases.

Kings Landing wasn't the only place Aiden went after getting Myrcella and Tommen, he also made a trip to Dragonstone. He had a Red Priestess to deal with, one that enjoyed burning innocent people alive a little too much in the name of her God.

'I will need to watch out for this Red Priestess, she is a psychopath who thinks she is doing gods work, which is the most dangerous kind. She burned men, women, and children claiming it would guarantee victory to Stannis in that other timeline. Although I have changed events, I have to keep an eye out for her.' Aiden thought as he floated high above Dragonstone.

Had Aiden not arrived, Melisandre would link up with Stannis and seduce him into doing terrible things. Using his unborn child that she had him put in her to create dark magic that would kill the fetus and turn it into a wraith that kills his brother, then burning his brother-in-law and even his own daughter alive along with many innocent people before each battle, which he didn't gain victory in any battle even with those sacrifices being done.

She claimed to be the mouthpiece for the Lord of Light, but many who actually met her knew her to just be insane. Even other Red Priest and Priestesses kept their distance from her. She was removed from the temple by the High Priest Benerro and High Priestess Kinvara for spouting incorrect visions in the flames, as well as her excessive sacrifices.

Before they could strip her of her gemmed collar and red dress, Melisandre escaped Volantis, knowing that she was in danger. To her everyone else was misinterpreting the flames, she was the only one to see the truth, that Stannis was the Prince who was Promised, so that was why she showed up in Dragonstone.

She used unsavory means to get close to Stannis, she practically slept with every guard so that she could come and go as she wished. Although she looked like a woman in her twenties, she was in fact much much older, it was thanks to the Asshai'i necklace that she had an extended life span amongst other powers.

The Asshai'i necklaces kept those that wore one forever young as long as it remained in place, if it was removed for too long after they had lived well past their years like most those that wore them, they would instantly begin to shrivel up and die, even turning to dust if they were old enough.

It also kept them warm no matter how cold it was, it protected them from heat as well but only to a certain extent. Regular fire they were protected against, but magical or dragon fire, or anything above 2000°C or 3632°F would kill them. A regular open coal or wood burning fire reaches at most about 1200°C or 2192°F.

Not only did it protect from cold and heat, it also gave an improvement to magic abilities for the wearers. It was a magical artifact so it increased the wearers magic pool, and gave access to levels of magic that the wearer wouldn't normally be able to access.

Melisandre's resurrection ability was much better than Thoros' resurrection, it wasn't because she was more devout, it was because she owned a necklace while he did not.

While Aiden searched Dragonstone, he came across Shireen, who was but a small child only five years old. Seeing how she was treated broke his heart. She was locked away in a room, only visited on occasion by her parents due to she had a large facial scar from being infected with greyscale.

Grayscale was a dreadful and usually fatal disease that can leave skin stiff and dead, causing it to crack and flake. It turned the skin hard as stone to the touch, those that survived would be forever immune to the disease but would be left scarred for the rest of their life.

The Maesters had infected her with it purposely, due to the Baratheons did have Targaryen heritage within their blood. They knew if they scarred her with greyscale, no one would want to marry her when she came of age. So while she was an infant they infected a doll her father bought her from Essos, then they charged an exorbitant amount of gold to cure it, but not until they felt the girl was scarred enough.

Stannis believed himself at fault since it was his doll he bought, but what he never took into account was he himself or anyone else that handled the doll previously ever came down with greyscale. If it was infected when he purchased it, he himself along with many of the sailors aboard his ship would've contracted the disease.

Aiden flew over to her window, which scared the little girl causing her to hide under her bed, "It's okay, I wouldn't hurt someone so cute." Aiden said softly as he landed within the simple room and sat on the floor to give a friendly atmosphere.

"You must be princess Shireen, I am Aiden. I saw you drawing all by yourself, I thought you could use a friend." Aiden said to try to coax her out so that he could heal her.

Seeing her remaining hidden, but keeping her eyes on him out of curiosity, she was very socially awkward and shy. She was mistreated by the servants, they feared getting infected even though she was past the stage of being contagious, it was mearly a scar at this point.

So Aiden decided to change tactics, "Well Flamebird, I guess she doesn't want to be our friend." Aiden said with a sigh.

Getting the hint, Flamebird came thru the window and landed in front of Aiden and danced around on her four legs, this made Shireen's eyes widen in amazement.

She completely forgot about Aiden and watched Flamebird do tricks with Aiden, after getting some giggles out of the toddler, Flamebird slowly approached Shireen who was remainin under her bed.

"It's ok, she wants you to pet her." Aiden said with a smile as he saw Shireen scoot back when Flamebird approached.

"No bite!" Shireen said cutely.

"Hahaha, no she wouldn't bite you, she doesn't bite her friends. So just to be safe why don't you ask her to be friends, she can understand you." Aiden said trying to ease the girl into trusting him.

Although he could heal her scar, he wanted to do more than that, he wanted to remove the shadow that had grown in the girls mind and heart. He was trying to show her that there were good people in the world, not just those that she has delt with besides her parents.

"My...friend?" Shireen asked as she hid her scar on her face with her little hand.

To her shock and enjoyment both Aiden and Flamebird nodded their heads, tears began to well up in her eyes, she had always wanted a friend. Thru her window she could see other children playing together, which was something she never got to experience even after she was cured.

Her hand slowly stretched out and stopped centimeters away from Flamebird's head, she was unsure of herself, but that was when Flamebird moved forward and rubbed her head into her outstretched hand.

The laugh Shireen gave was melodious and beautiful to Aiden, full of joy and relief, tears of happiness flowed like a waterfall as she began to pet the dragon.

"You know if you come out from under the bed, we could play a game, you ever wished you could fly?" Aiden asked, knowing the answer.

Shireen's head bobbed up and down quickly, like a chicken eating from the ground.

"Come on then, lets go." Aiden gestured for her to come.

Shireen quickly crawled out from under the bed and laughed once again when Flamebird flew into her chest and began to crawl around her body playfully.

Aiden used his bio-electric field to then wrap around Shireen as he began to heal her scar on the left side of her face. Seeing herself beginning to float she squirmed in fright at first but seeing she didn't fall, she quickly adjusted and began to laugh.

Seeing her looking out the window, Aiden couldn't help but chuckle, "Sure, we can go outside. Just promise me you won't try this unless I'm around, ok?"

Shireen quickly gave a nod, to which Aiden then took off while holding her hand, he wanted her to see he didn't fear touching her, plus it would allow him time to fully heal her without her noticing the itching that it was going to cause to heal her flesh.

All three shot out of the window and into the sky, he showed her dolphins, whales, birds and all numbers of animals as they flew. All the while he healed the girls face, she never even realized what he was doing. She was amazed by the sights of the various animals Aiden brought her up close to.

She had never experienced anything quite like it, she had always sat at her window and wished to go explore, to play with others, to interract with people. Every time she tried, it elicited fear from others, except for her parents, the Maester and Davos Seasworth, no one else would come near her.

Now she found herself flying thru the sky and exploring the sea, she was shocked to see Flamebird grow when she found a decent prey within the waters and dive down to snag her an easy meal.

Aiden knew this was something the girl needed, it would help kickstart her social skills, coupled with the fact she wouldn't be scarred, she would be able to live a happy life.

When they returned to her room, Aiden gave her a bracelet and a small statue in the shape of a stag, it would give her access to Kandor whenever she needed.

"You can use this to contact me anytime you are scared or want to play. Be brave little doe, don't let other's keep you from your dreams, never lose hope. As long as you have hope, anything is possible. Remember that." Aiden said as he rubbed her left cheek which shocked her.

She actually felt his touch, before she had no feeling since the skin was so hard. She ran to a bronze mirror and a bright smile appeared on her face, she began to jump for joy at being a normal girl now. She ran and hugged Aiden to which he returned, then left back thru the window to handle the Red Priestess.
