Capítulo 12: This night is going to be very long

Upon hearing William's words, Veronica was taken aback. She didn't know what he was talking about. The words that he just said were going over her head. It was as if he was talking in riddles, but there was also a little sadness to it that could be seen deep in his eyes. Veronica noticed a trace of that sadness but before she could try to make sense of it, it completely disappeared from William's eyes as he saw Veronica staring back at him.

"I am not the first woman who felt that way huh, I see..." Veronica felt a slight pain in her heart when she reiterated William's words.

She was kind of already expecting that a man of his caliber couldn't possibly be single. He might already have many women beside him and there might even be countless young women ready to throw themselves on his bed. Why would he, then, bother to embrace a woman who already has a child?

She thought she was too old for him. At the same time, William noticed the subtle changes in her expression and realized what was happening inside Veronica's head. Knowing that, he took the initiative to break the silence.

"It's not like that, you are not too old for me and I am not bothered that you are the mother of a child. It's just that my concerns are different. There are things that you don't know about me, and when you come to know of those things, you are likely going to run away from me," William whispered as he looked at Veronica with a smile.

The moment she heard those words, her heart nearly skipped a beat. Her jaw nearly dropped to the ground. She couldn't believe what she just heard from William's mouth. It made her facial expression change drastically.

'Was I so loud? Don't tell me I was thinking aloud and he heard the words that I thought were in my head.' Veronica thought to herself.

Seeing the bewildered look on Veronica's face, William chuckled. She reminded him of someone he knew a few centuries ago. He could see that there was no maliciousness in Veronica's heart. She was indeed a pure soul and that was the sole reason why he was there.

"You are not thinking aloud, but I can hear everything going around in your head loud and clear." A voice rang inside Veronica's head and her facial expression turned solemn as she looked at Willam in a daze.

"How did you..." As she looked at William with a surprised gaze, something clicked in her head and she took a few steps back in shock.

"Don't tell me you are awakened! What in the world is an awakened doing in this small city?" Veronica's body trembled with fear as she looked at William with a dark expression.

Seeing her reacting like that, William was also taken aback by surprise. This was the first time he heard the term 'awakened'. He tried to look into his memories for a while but he found nothing.

"What are you talking about, what's that?" William asked as he looked at Veronica with a confused look on his face.

"Eh...you are not awakened? Then how did you know what I was thinking in my head?" She looked at William perplexedly.

"No, I am not awakened. Can you tell me why you reacted that way and what is this awakened that you mentioned earlier?" William asked as he looked at Veronica.

He didn't try to read her memories because there was a limit to the use of his mental powers and he had already used it a couple of times in close frequency. First, he used it on the two fishermen, then he used it on the guards at the entrance of Solana city, and finally, he killed one of the guys causing a ruckus using his mental ability as well. William was still in a weak state and he knew that he needed some time before he recovered all his powers.

At the same time, Veronica was confused when she heard that William was not an awakened being. Moreover, he was not even aware of the existence of an awakened being. This made her question William's origin. After all, even small children were aware of the existence of the awakened.

"Awakened people are blessed with extraordinary abilities. They are very powerful people. Right now, Lady Melenia is only awakened inside Solana city. She is also the Baroness of this city. Awakened people can do things that normal humans can't even think of doing. I was surprised when I heard your voice in my head and mistook you for an awakened being. Now the real question is, can you tell me who you are?" she looked at William with a serious gaze as she asked.

"Born with extraordinary abilities, huh? Well, that's new," William whispered as he looked at Veronica. In the next moment, he took a step towards her and came so close to her that she could feel his breath.

"You really want to know who I am?" He asked as he looked into her eyes. Upon hearing William's words, Veronica gulped and nodded her head in response.

"Yes, I want to know who you are," She whispered with certainty in her voice as she looked at William with a pleading gaze. Her heart was throbbing wildly seeing William that close to her.

"Very well then," William replied and the next moment, his hand reached to her waist as he pulled her towards him.

"Willliam, this..." Veronica's face turned as red as a tomato when she felt William's hand on her waist while her boobs pressed against his chest.

"This night is going to be very long." He said as he looked into Veronica's eyes and the next moment, he disappeared from the window along with her like a flash of thunder.
